You are seriously good. Right now I'm searching the web for an practice-based Excel / Power BI / Access tutorial to take me through simple to advanced concepts as I realized my skill-sets have been left in the 90's. From my first assessment of all the stuff out there, your programs and approach is the best so far. I really liked the data to executive reports approach with multiple pivots and whatever else in between, without the basic fundamental Learned more this way watching your than a dozen individual skill based programs. Mynda thank you very much, mind blowing professionalism in your videos. Two inquietudes though:
    - I've added up all the student numbers in the 2009-2018 Student *.csv files, and I come up with 47,2M? Maybe I'm adding the wrong data?
    - When I ask the first question about "sum of students", I get 309M instead of 66M. Any idea what I might have done wrong, probably relationships (I've also double checked these)?
Definitely I'm doing something wrong ...
    Thanks for your help

Structuring your data in this way enables Power BI to more efficiently compress, aggregate and visualise your data. Dim tables allow you to significantly reduce the amount of data in your database.

Not sure which bar charts you're referring to, sorry. Perhaps you can download the Power BI file from the link in the video description and that will clarify the different charts.

    Hi Mynda,
Indeed it is a great webinar. I have learned so much.
I have downloaded the file from your website to try it out myself. I notice that some of the setup in your Power BI file are different from those of mine namely for the map ie the colour scheme. In my Power BI, the selection of color does not have green. Also, for my Power BI, there is no section for Shape too.
For the map I can't seem to find where is the button to remove the colour of the sea so that the map can stand out.
Also, the filter, I can't seem to get the 2 pointer filter for the year but instead I get mosaic style for the filter.
Is this something to do with Power BI pro or is there some setup I need to do in Power BI free version to get these functions like what you have in your Power BI?

Hi Angela, great to hear you're giving it a go yourself. It sounds like you may have chosen a different map visual. There are more than one, so you might want to check that.

Hi Mynda, where do I find the selection of different map visual?
For the set of standard green colours, mine just doesn't have it, not even for the bar chart. Of course I can get green from the "custom color" but it is not the same. Do you know where I can go and get the set of standard green colours?
Or is it something to do with the download and setup of Power BI - that I have a different data colour set and map layout?
      Thanks so much

Hey Mynda great dashboard, just one question..why your canvas area on BI looks much wider as compared to mine in laptop. I set page size as Width = 1400 and Height = 800, still your screen/canvas looks much wider, any tips.

I have a widescreen monitor at 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I can fit a lot into my screen.

when I want to set list of numbers = (2008..2018) gives me "Expression.SyntaxError: Token RightParen expected." error...

You need curly braces around the dates like this: ={2008..2018} not parentheses.

Thanks for the video! Your % of Total is not correctly displayed. And I have one question, how to manage Sort Order column you created by adding conditional column if we will have a total new item? Just simply add index?

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  5 років тому +1

Ah, yes I needed to fix the alignment so the % of Total header text is correctly displayed. If you added new sectors then you'd have to edit the query and add another nested 'if' statement to the conditional column formula.

Follow the link in the video description (here it is again: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/workbook-downloads) and then read the instructions on the page. You'll find the Power BI files are towards the bottom of the page.
