i watch this every three days. i want that guitar so badly Update: I got a old Harmony Archtop, Gonna put a Silverfoil DeArmond and finnaly have the guitar I've been wanting forever Update 2: couldnt put a pickup in my previous Archtop so I sold it and bought a actual archtop kay from N.J., the pickup doesnt work so I put a silverfoil dearmond in it!
The camera here had a great seat that night. And picked up the audio pretty well for a sixteen year old post. Never saw this here footage before. It's great. Thanks. !
Of course. It brings tears to my eyes. I believe in reincarnation. Willie Mctell, Poor Bob, Mr. House, Bo Diddley.. .they're out there somewhere. I recognized their music before I'd even HEARD it. It was like Deja Vu of the ear. Made me believe in God.
I bought this EXACT model last week for $200! I was so excited it was so cheap. but he put some kind of paper thing over the original finish. You can see through some spots of it. I just know because I had the chance to look close at it. That thing is tore up hahaha
"As an experienced songwriter i would say this song is about perfect. I give it 99 out of 100. This is the perfect example how simplicity can sometimes kick the ass of extreme eccentric creativity. It would appear to not be a very difficult song to pen the words too but the complete absence of expounded words is what makes this so powerful to me, straight to the point and extremely effective. Out thinking yourself is a curse for every creative giant" - Mojo Risin
Yeah, brother Jack...by all means "preach the word". I would like to hear him remake some old gospel or hymns. I love "Wayfairn' Stranger". that's how I learned of him. I fell in love with him in Cold Mountain and rushed out and bought the cd.
History in the fucking making. THe white stripes may have split, but their music is literally timeless. Long live the stripes, rock the fuck on jack. \m/
Yeah, it's on their best disc de stijl. Since you haven't heard the studio version yet, some of the words are changed, which makes this video so raw! Love it!
Yeah, the same legendary 1950's Kay that he still uses to this day. Probably with the original Tobaco Sunburst pretty conserved under all that kraft paper.
Are you sure? Cuz death letter album version is in open G too, but live version he plays in open A. He uses just one guitar for open tunings when playing live-Kay Hollowbody, and plays Seven Nation Army, Death Letter etc. in open A on it. I doubt if he tunes it into open g during the concert.
@diddypopdiddy i didnt want to say that they`re doing the exact same thing i just meant that they are worth checking out if you like the 1 guitar and drums concept
@bernstein1990 Actually, I don't know if its because the Hard strings he's using, but Open G is the only way you can achieve the sound of... Catch Hell, Little Bird and so death letter... Is impossible with Open A to reach that sound, well... the recorded one at least...
I doubt it. Wouldn't be the same anyway. What they had wasn't just something you could just pick right back up. I would still love it though. Best band in the world.
De Stijl is a masterpiece. and it was recorded on a 4-track in Jack's living room!
I knew there was a raw guitar feel to the whole album most underrated album imo by them of course
@@jr123456222 yes
8 track
Great song. Good to see some of today's artists keeping the art of real music alive.
+Dan Underwood Every album of the white stripes is a piece of perfection, real art. They did everything right, from the beginning.
This audience had no idea. What a great show, damn, I wish I was there.
I agree. The Stripes blues are their best material.

+moo Got 2 of those :D
TeaZer :c
:D :*
;c
+TeaZer Just ordered one from 1957 with a cool/odd looking sharp edged pickguard. Can't wait.
The camera here had a great seat that night.

It's great.
Thanks.
!
11/27/99 as the crow flies.
if the VHS tracking is accurate, that is.
"I'm gonna pet your feathers, baby".
I hear "In My Time of Dying" by Zeppelin and "Whole Lotta Rosie" by ACDC mixed and I love it.

This song is simply amazing. The bottleneck's style is awesome.
Commenting cus I was the 250000th veiwer and proud that it’s a white stripes video😊
haha yeah I love so much how simple the White Stripes are- they make something so amazingly complex out of so few instruments.
most music doesnt, but this one is all shades and hues of blues :)

thank you to the person who made this video - it is a thing of beauty
This is how the white stripes should be recorded
History in the fucking making. THe white stripes may have split, but their music is literally timeless. Long live the stripes, rock the fuck on jack.

one of my favs and their greatests songs
jack fav instument... the slide guitar... what he was destened to play
lol at the end someone requests "Freebird! Freebird!"
Like if this is the best band of ALL TIME.

Love that guitar
you can tell he really enjoys playing guitar
I love the musical maturation from both Meg and Jack from this video, still f'ing amazing though.
the beginning of the singing reminds me of ZZ top - la grange. took me some minutes till i've figured it out what does it sound like xD
blues and rock
Dear lord, i think thats his Kay before he covered it with paper!
No it's a different one
Yeah, the same legendary 1950's Kay that he still uses to this day. Probably with the original Tobaco Sunburst pretty conserved under all that kraft paper.
Jason Craig he has many different ones
+pepsimaxo123 What? No, its the same one
+moo I know it's the same one he covered in paper but I'm sure he had another Kay which had a cut off switch and a broken pick guard
is this blues music?
Blues-Punk!
@@YesYes-ch7fq Hard blues/hardcore blues/punk blues/blues rock.
jack's Kay without the brown paper!
Getting the next Third man vault Live at the gold dollar vinyl can't believe it has been 15 years
JACK I LOVE YOU
MEG YOU RULE!!!
at least some bands are keeping the blues alive,
the blues needs to come back
I hear a lil AC/DC there!!🎸🤟😎
REAL ROCK!!
This version is in open A, the CD is in G. I dont know if he's using the whammy or what, but I'm playing along right now and my guitar is open A.
Okay here's a good 15 years old video🔥💛
Nov 27, 1999... EARLY!
soooooooo truee. This was the first song i heard by White stripes...kinda sad but i liked his idea with the slide and his voice. :D
Oh god I love you for this.
yes it is history, but the music life for ever
Are you sure? Cuz death letter album version is in open G too, but live version he plays in open A. He uses just one guitar for open tunings when playing live-Kay Hollowbody, and plays Seven Nation Army, Death Letter etc. in open A on it. I doubt if he tunes it into open g during the concert.
To me this was the best era of the White Stripes. Just realy dirty blues. They still rule though
He is too cool.
this is what i call rockin out!
love it!!
I love her..
lovely.
The kay was originally :O
I Booked tickets for there last tour but it was cancelled last minute :(
Yeah it was because of a Meg's acute anxiety
@DarkExecuter333 the red guitar is not a grestch, it's some brand from japan, and it's in open E
@diddypopdiddy
i didnt want to say that they`re doing the exact same thing i just meant that they are worth checking out if you like the 1 guitar and drums concept
awesome boogie !
@bernstein1990 yeah, but i think his red gretsch is often tuned in open D i think, too
@blazednamazed nice observation, didn't realize that's what he did
@bernstein1990 Actually, I don't know if its because the Hard strings he's using, but Open G is the only way you can achieve the sound of... Catch Hell, Little Bird and so death letter... Is impossible with Open A to reach that sound, well... the recorded one at least...
hahaha "FREEBIRD! FREEBIRD!" hahaha
hell yes
I doubt it. Wouldn't be the same anyway. What they had wasn't just something you could just pick right back up. I would still love it though. Best band in the world.
@Abz90L It's open A. I'm tuned to Open G right now with a capo on second fret and I can play the stuff he's playing in his normal tuning
true!
12th year anniversary of this concert 2 days ago lol
Is that the cute dress she wore in Hotel Yorba?
he does it to stop the feedback from the sound holes on the guitar.. like tomke1e said ,)
AGREED
yes it is makes sencee
check out the black keys!
great blues too
Well said dude.
and the tone for the bottom pick up is about 3 or lower
Awesome
If this was performed in '99, then that means in this video Meg and Jack were still married, right?
@2und2sind4 The Black Keys is the bizarro version of The White Stripes. Dan Auerbach is the anti-Jack White. It's so weird, but I like them.
"PLAY FREEBIRD" lmao
It is a Kay, but is it the same one? I don't think he had more than a few guitars so I guess it is
how can you recognize something before you hear it?
@hodjepodje be happy. spread light. believe what you want.
dude how awesome is mister "oh i had this in fucking 1999" guy?
definitely, however you spell it.
Yeah
what guitar is he using? what might his effects setup be?
what would be epic is if the keys and the stripes went on tour together
i would too
I think I like this version better than the album version.
For real!! Its the foundation, sucks that music has gone away from it, now all one has to do is not wear underware...
its a crestwood astral II
is that a kay guitar?
Thats true.. but he did'nt do it on this vid.. ,)
hellz yea black keys are indeed the shit. dan auerbach is another very creative guitarist/songwriter with a relatively similar style as jack..
in my time of dying....want nobody to mourn, all i want you to do, is take my body home...
He later put paper over the top of his guitar this is just before he did that.
What guitar is that?
classy
this is a pretty fucking creepy song but i love it so much
I have a Harmony Archtop that looks identical to his Kay guitar.
It has "Kay" on pickguard.
does he have a red gretsch??
its not offensive at all its just something people yell cause it was such a popular song.
