  • I decided to go with Rubberific shredded mulch for our backyard. I wanted to go with something that I didn't need to replenish every year, but didn't want to go with the look of rock. We put a batch down last year and another round this year to test how consistent the color is. Is the cost of the mulch worth the time savings in maintenance?

    Thank you very much. I am sick of wood mulch blowing and washing away and getting into my stones. I really wanted to buy rubber mulch and was waiting for a practical review. You did a fantastic job of answering the majority of questions I had.

    Love my rubber mulch.❤
    I use to get the wood mulch for years, and it was funky for a few weeks. Then the wood Mulch would just disappear. Rain washed it away. Wind blue it away. Blower blue it away. It was gone bye bye.
    Just put Black Rubber mulch from lowes, large Nuggets. Little Rubber smell for 1 day in 90+ degree weather. Also rubber mulch held up well with several back to back severe thunderstorms. My Black rubber much looks so real and very beautiful. No one even know it's Rubber mulch. Get lots of compliments.
    Next, gonna try the Super Max Mulch Glue and see what happens.
    Thank you for sharing your review. Maybe I will do a review someday.

    I was wanting to redo my front garden bed and this video helped with my decision. Rubber mulch it is!

    Love the look of rubber mulch. Just can’t get over the smell. Been over 3 weeks and while it has gotten less odorous, still awful. Hopefully will get better with time. Giving us headaches.

      Not sure what brand you purchased but the we don’t notice any odor from our Rubberiffic after a few weeks. It can be pretty strong the first few days, but never strong enough to give us headaches.

      Which brand of rubber mulch did you buy? I brought rubberiffic from Lowes. It had light smell of rubber for 1 day in 90+ degree weather.

    Do your plants seem to be ok? I switched to rubber last year and planted for the first time this year and now I keep reading that it gets too hot and kills plants and that the chemicals leech into the soil and kill plants, but I honestly can’t afford to replace mulch in bulk every year, so I’m hoping I still made the right choice.

      After 2 years, my plants are fine. Haven’t had any more die than I have in traditional wood mulch.

    I'm considering it today however my oak trees our so dirty that my beds get full of debris every spring in Houston. With regular mulch I just put down a fresh cover. Not sure how I would keep the rubber mulch clean but would like to quit spending a grand a year on mulch.

      Yeah, if they are dropping a lot of acorns that might be a problem to keep clean. The leaves could be blown off pretty easily however.

    Did you consider buying in bulk? Usually cheaper with wood mulch. Not sure if it was an option in rubber mulch.

      Unfortunately, I have not found this mulch to be available in bulk. I have found the rubber nuggets in bulk, but that wasn’t the look we were wanting.

    Hi, Thanks for the video. Question on quantity. Did you say that area used to take about 14 yards of wood mulch and then you replaced it with about 2 3/4 pallets of the Rubberific? I'm assuming it was the 2000 lb pallets or about 75 cuft. So you used about 7.63 yards. I ask because I'm reading that you can use about half the amount of rubber as wood and that seems to be your experience, but I'm just checking to be sure I have that right.

      Yes, I normally go 4+ inches with wood mulch but went 2 inches deep with the rubber mulch. With the fabric under the rubber mulch, it help prevent weeds from germinating in the rubber mulch.

    • @blood_sweat_and_beers
      @blood_sweat_and_beers  Рік тому +1

      I did a minimum of 2" of the rubber mulch on top of 20 year fabric. This seems to be thick enough to show show bare spots over time.

    Where did you get and what brand is the weed barrier? And is it breathable a far as letting air and rain through.

    • @blood_sweat_and_beers
      @blood_sweat_and_beers  11 місяців тому

      I prefer to use non-woven landscape fabric. It does allow water through, however it is slow to do so. Holds up great and weed germination is minimal. Any big box store should carry it. I get the 20+ year variety.

    How does it hold up in high strong winds? Do they fly onto the lawn like the wood chip mulch ?

    • @blood_sweat_and_beers

      The rubber mulch stays in place amazingly well. I have never noticed the mulch blowing in our 50-60mph winds we have had.

      @blood_sweat_and_beers  Місяць тому +1

      @@shortyhos85 I would. There are pros and cons, but I think removing the need to replace it annually is a big win. However, I have found some of that work is shifted to now needing to keep the dead landscape cleaned up as there is no new mulch to cover it up annually.

      @@toddbruce8177 mostly the perennials that die off every winter. The stems, leaves and grasses can just be covered with new layer of wood mulch. With rubber, you gotta put more effort into keeping it cleaned up.
