The song is from a musical written by ABBA members Björn and Benny about a group of Swedes emigrating to America around 1850s, which was during a period when over one-third of the Swedish population emigrated to America. The song is about Peter's character Robert telling his wife about his trip to California in search for gold during the gold rush and how everything went bad (the song title translates to "The gold turned into sand") including losing his friend.
For me, Jöback will always be Aladdin as he did the Swedish voice of Aladdin in the Disney movie. His version of "A Whole New World" ("En helt ny värld") is lovely. Internationally, he's probably mostly known for being in a few musicals, for example playing the The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End and on Broadway.
