  • This flatwing style fly, named after the famous Five Fingers fishing spot, is the perfect fly whether it's 200 ft below strung on a down rigger or flung out behind the boat, swimming 2 ft below the surface (the more exciting option in my opinion). Chinook in the Georgia Strait predominantly feed on 2+ year old herring in the summer months, making this fly a strong choice for Five Fingers and many other spots in the Strait.
A flatwing fly uses bucktail tied in backwards and folded over itself to create body for the fly. This tying method makes this thin material appear bulky while still allowing the fly to be light and move well in the water. It’s tied with black craft fur colour for a natural look but swapping black for pink, green, and blue works well too. Visit islandfishermanmagazine.com/ for writeup and more fly tying!
