Hi, thanks for the tutorial! Wondering is it normal for the 3d sbs recording to revert to normal recording everytime the quest restart? After i run the adb again, it works but revert back to non SBS after restart.
Yes you can with passtho but the quality is not as good as Meta Raybay glasses. If video recording is what you are thinking, the Meta Raybay is a better choice. This is more for recording in game content as well as passtho in 3D Spatial video format. Not really for social media but VR.
Thanks for vid. Quest Optimizer has built-in settings to change video capture to 3D which works ok. However when I run the 5 manual commands mentioned in vid (using custom command) in SideQuest on PC, for it seems to reset everything and only records in 2D? Is there a way of checking if the commands have been registered correctly?
I’ve enabled but after power cycle 3D filming was not possible, had to enter those commands again.. is it possible to keep 3D filming possible everytime I boot up my Quest 3?
You should mention how using image stabilization reduces the frame size of the video. Also, with the information you provided for the frame rate, my video was captured at 72fps rather than 60fps for some reason. Any idea why that may be? Can the Quest 3 display even run at the lower 60fps, something it wasn't intended for, without damaging it?
@@hughhou I was intending to use it for just 3D capture of real environments rather than gaming thinking 60 fps would make for smoother (better) visuals, especially when walking around.
Thank you! Can you take 3D photos with this? Also, I just learned that if you have an iPhone 15 pro, the new beta IOS can record 3D videos. It would be amazing if you can investigate to see if these videos made by the iPhone can be viewed on the Quest 3. Thanks
To take 3D photos out of it, is best to take screenshots in VLC player from the video with Shift-S. immerGallery also has a special mode where it shows the water scale 3 seconds, then disables for 1 second and turns it back on. Then in VLC player, you can go through the video and screenshot the photos where your alignment was correct without rotation, just after the water scale disappears. The screenshot files will be (on Windows) in your \Pictures folder. Copied to Quest 3 \Pictures or subfolders there, you can watch them in immerGallery.
Tilt is a real issue in Q3 recording. Took me a while to figure out immerGallery leveler - with 3D camera mode box [x] checked, 'hide the menu' is 'Press A' -- then you can squeeze the trigger to turn the leveler on/off, as it does show up in recordings. It is also not difficult to put the Q3 on a simple wood dowel on a tripod as a static 3d camera - it balances right there and keeps the forehead sensor active.
That sounds really bad if the leveler shows up on screen. I mean, how are you supposed to use it in moving shots if it wrecks every moving shot it's used on.
@@josh6499 The fake head display mentioned is better. Just found the Q3 will balance on a 1/2 inch rod which also triggers the forehead sensor. Problem with that is the headset can easily wobble around in wind etc but is a quick and dirty mount for stereo photos and videos.
This all great info, thank you.I have tried the bat file route from your friend on other channel. Maybe someone can streamline all this into one app we can then almost be like the movie" Brainstorm" record snipits if our lives in 3D. I would like to record my 90 yr old mum before its too late,so I can spend some time with her on the Quest 3 or my 3D projector. But at present its a bit complex to work out converting the video file to make it compatible with a 3D tv or projector,I am sure you can make an app for us
I tried this and it worked. The 3D is a little harsh on the eyes. Not sure why. BUT, when I rebooted the meta, my 3D video recording ability disappeared. Is there a way to keep it in 3D video recording mode without having to go through these steps everytime?
Amazing job of gathering all the tools and explainig everything. My big concern is that there aren't any 3D TV's yet... (Except the old ones before 2015). Hopefully Leia will go big screen. It is not cool to gather your family together and each to wear a headset to view the recordings.
Ive done this and it works great. Run into a feature/bug that is frustrating. It seems as though that whenever I use the native camera or launch a 3d spatial game that uses microphone support that the next time I record video it is recording in mono instead of stereo again. This is frustrating because I was hoping to record videos of 3d spatial games. What is worse is that I have to completely run the ADB commands again to return it to record stereo video. Im not sure if it changes any of the other variables when this happens but definitely adb shell setprop debug.oculus.screenCaptureEye 2 has to be rerun Is there any more info on this, for the ability to record in stereo possibly with mic or for it at least not to revert back to mono mode? Is there a way to easily switch between mono and stereo filmin on the quest 3?
So for security, all ADB command reset after restart your Quest 3. The Audio is a known bugs and if you know Meta finally fix it let us know! So far they just don't want to complete with Apple Vision Pro so all these cool features are in their back burner. It is a shame. But hopefully they can fix it soon.
I use this commands with my Meta Quest Pro and function very well, but there are any way to make this permantent? without need to connect to PC and send this orders any time i start Quest Pro and want to record 3D video with it?
Is it impossible to record and playback 3D video just like what I have been seeing in the Passthrough Mode? After capturing 3D videos following the tutorial, the SBS video does not look like Passthrough.
Hey, great video, would you (or anyone else) be willing to drop a short sample clip. I'm much more interested in capturing 3D video of the real world then to capture MR content (still interesting of course)
make sure you are cd into the folder where your render file is loaded.. as a Mac user trying to get my head around this process, I'm still totally baffled. Could you elaborate?
Yes, you type cd and space and then drag the whole folder into the terminal and it will pull your full path into the code. You just need to make sure when you run code, it is inside the folder of your actual video file.
When I open the camera app and click o record it works, but when I press the meta + trigger button for 2 seconds it doesn't trigger video recording. Any ideas why? Anything I need to do to enable this shortcut?
hello, I follow your tutorial steps to record 3d videos using my quest 3(enable develop mode and all the settings), but I cannot find 3d videos in my oculus videoshots folder. Do you know how to resolve it? I also purchase the immerGallery app you recommend, still no recorded video found. :(
@@zlinoliver Don't think so. v59 should still be the latest version and you should always be able to record game content (independent of passthrough). Could your device be full, not having enough free space to record?

Thanks! I'm having a little issue where when I try to capture video in 1920x1080, the playback in the quest tv app is stretched horizontally. Anyone know how to fix this?
I think I broke the access to my passthrough right after entering the ADB codes (the 5 enabled 3D recording) in my Quest 3. I can't use this feature anymore. How can I restore to original state without factory resetting? I don't want to lose any progress on my games. Thanks
The daylight captures look reasonably good considering this is a free 3D camera included in Quest 3 for experimentation. Indoor, it looks (obviously) pretty similar to what you see in your regular passthrough mode on Quest 3. Some noise, but gets better the more light you add.
Does somebody know what's best for 1000 usd budget for spatial photos and video? Is it iPhone pro or some other device? iPhone is probably always in your pocket vs some camera.
It is possible but it will have edges - as the lens is not prefect level like a 3D camera - it is toe in. You can see lots of raw fisheye capture in Quest 3 is strange without editing. That is why 3840 x 1920 is standard in the VR world to call it 4K.
@@hughhou I guess it's technically correct to call it that if you want to be pedantic, as 1920x1080 is 2k. if you double the width that's 4k as it's rounding off the width. shrug.
looks like its impossible to ask for help.... sorry if i send one hundred messages... i uploaded the video with the injected ffmpeg data but i do not see it on youtube on the anagliph style... could you please help our rescue center¿
Couple notes after trying this to capture Dirt Rally 2.0 via Virtual Desktop on my Quest 3 - so my issues might be specific to my use - 1. Sound was ahead of video - thankfully it was a consistent out of sync and not like the variable frame rate sound issue I had on the quest 2. 2. Even though virtual desktop and the game were at 72 FPS, the captured video was only 30 FPS - I did use "fullRateCapture 0" 3. Playback in Skybox looks weird... like the top and bottom are very squeezed in.. Maybe they think it is a 180 FOV but really the video is 110 because that is what the Quest 3 is??? IDK.. 4. I didnt use any smoothing, I should have.. what felt smooth while recording was .. not. I will try out that feature next time. Im uploading it to DeoVR to see if it looks correct on there.. DeoVR is sloowww though.. 30 megabits on my 2.2 gigabit upload connection.
1. That is strange. Can it be a game issue. I will need to get that game to try it myself. 2. Yes, only gameplay capture is 72FPS - also not consistent meaning you will need handbreak to transcode it into consistent frame rate. I will suggest stick to 30fps for gameplay capture and use AI for post up frame rate like Topaz 3. Skybox did you turn on auto format detection? Might be a glitch on their end I will follow up on that later 4. Don't turn on smoothing that high as it crop into your frame
@@hughhou the part to inject metadata using ffmpeg.im using windows. I put the file inside the ffmpeg.exe folder. Open cmd prompt inside this folder and execute the line of code. The output file i upload to youtube. It doesnt recognize the 3d metadata. But if i see the video inside the headset and force the view to be 3d sbs it works
@@hughhou i think it worked now hahaha.. i think it takes even more time to process it. I mean,i waited the video to process to 4k and the 3d option didnt appear. Now it appears (its the last video i post on my channel). I will try again later. If you dont hear from me it means that it worked. But thanks a lot for the video, info and the attention!!
I think there may have been a small mistake at 9:26, if you export at 3840x1920 it's not square anymore. I tested a video from premier with those setting exported and copied to the Quest 3, it was not in correct 3d, but if I export prores square it looks right. Is that resolution you showed necessary for youtube upload and somehow youtube cuts of the edges and makes it square again?
Yes are right as well. The better way it to cut in square in editing software. I am try to make the workflow less “post editing” and more just line of code and done. So it’s square as the FFMPEG (secret code come after that in the tutorial) set your aspect to 1 to 1 - which is cropping eye to square 1920 x 1920. Just different workflow.
It should be square with 3840x1920 as this is 2x1920x1920 (the 2x for images left and right). Only that 1:1 aspect ratio (per eye) avoids the passthrough pixels from being stretched which lowers quality.
@@hughhou Oh i get it that makes sense, that may have been why I got an error with that code then when I used it later. I used the second code you provided instead with the square one I exported. I think it looks half-decent, the cyberpunk VR footage, still a bit blurry but I will try again for next video!
The Quest 3's mic is terrible. I'd just use a better external mic for recording if I were you. Still keep using the Quest mic, though, but only for helping you to sync the audio with the better sound recording in post.
@@echelon2k8good idea ! But do you successfully get the audio of the mic ? (Even for sync) I try to speak while walking around and get no audio from the mic. I think it should be activated somehow.
@@JeanPhilippeEncausse If you want the audio of the Quest's mic, you'll have to start the recording from the camera setting on the device in the main menu, not with the on and off shortcut of holding the two buttons simultaneously. Otherwise when you use the shortcut for recording you should get a message saying the mic is muted so you won't get it that way, at least that's what it does on mine.
I can only watch the video in 3D once straight after recording in the Quest 3, if I then go back to the video it will only play in SBS, no option to change to 3D again. Any ideas?

The fact you even need step-by-step guide to do this shows how far behind the curve Meta is. Even smartphones have a 'Camera' app, so the fact that a device with stereoscopic 3D cameras does not have a 3D Camera app is a MAJOR miss on their part.
@@DaveSimkusAbsolutely they could do it. Meta have good hardware but they really need to improve their software and APIs if they expect to compete with Apple and Google in the future. They are wasting their current advantage.
😂 the curve they created for everyone to ride on...sure. Apple will do what Apple always does. Wait for everyone else to invent, then spend money to make it look like they did it better. Yes Pro 2 stitching is not the best but 3D 360 done right is increable! I can tell you from experience :)
Great information. Really appreciate it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi can you record videos outside with Q3? Nice video... Thinking to buy aQ3 or Meta smart glasses (to create video content)
Yes you can with passtho but the quality is not as good as Meta Raybay glasses. If video recording is what you are thinking, the Meta Raybay is a better choice. This is more for recording in game content as well as passtho in 3D Spatial video format. Not really for social media but VR.
@@hughhou Thank you for your answer
Thanks for vid. Quest Optimizer has built-in settings to change video capture to 3D which works ok. However when I run the 5 manual commands mentioned in vid (using custom command) in SideQuest on PC, for it seems to reset everything and only records in 2D? Is there a way of checking if the commands have been registered correctly?
When restart all command get reset. It’s just how Quest work for security reason :(

Thanks for the sub!
I’ve enabled but after power cycle 3D filming was not possible, had to enter those commands again.. is it possible to keep 3D filming possible everytime I boot up my Quest 3?
Not as Quest by default reset everything when power circle - it is annoying.
@@hughhou but any option to enter into Android boot so those commands are entered automaticly everytime Quest 3 boots up?
You should mention how using image stabilization reduces the frame size of the video. Also, with the information you provided for the frame rate, my video was captured at 72fps rather than 60fps for some reason. Any idea why that may be? Can the Quest 3 display even run at the lower 60fps, something it wasn't intended for, without damaging it?
72fps is correct as the gameplay at 72fps up and down. You will need FFMPEG to covert them into 60fps. That is why lock in 30fps is better solution.
Thanks
It is right here: ua-cam.com/users/shortsPeqqUCFN_PY?si=jEw6BDc4Y21Ctoav - You can def take 3D photo as well.
Awesome information. Thank you
Our pleasure!
Or a fake head display like I have where you put sunglass. Cost 3 dollars in local furniture store lol. It has a tripod mount at the base!
That sounds really bad if the leveler shows up on screen. I mean, how are you supposed to use it in moving shots if it wrecks every moving shot it's used on.
@@hughhou I have a question In the future do you think Meta will make some apps for filmmaking for the the quest 3
Can you explain this wood dowel set up? I don't understand.
But at present its a bit complex to work out converting the video file to make it compatible with a 3D tv or projector,I am sure you can make an app for us
I can’t but pretty sure Meta is working on a button to turn all these on just in the default menu lol. We just a little earlier than Meta dev team 😂

How did your video come out?
@@SAMOTUBER pretty awesome bro!
I tried this and it worked. The 3D is a little harsh on the eyes. Not sure why. BUT, when I rebooted the meta, my 3D video recording ability disappeared. Is there a way to keep it in 3D video recording mode without having to go through these steps everytime?
Yes it reset to your old settings. You need to do the whole steps again :)
Amazing job of gathering all the tools and explainig everything. My big concern is that there aren't any 3D TV's yet... (Except the old ones before 2015). Hopefully Leia will go big screen. It is not cool to gather your family together and each to wear a headset to view the recordings.
Leia does have big screen as they recently acquire a 3D display company - and prob dropping AI powered display around CES.
Im not sure if it changes any of the other variables when this happens but definitely adb shell setprop debug.oculus.screenCaptureEye 2 has to be rerun
Is there any more info on this, for the ability to record in stereo possibly with mic or for it at least not to revert back to mono mode?
Is there a way to easily switch between mono and stereo filmin on the quest 3?
So for security, all ADB command reset after restart your Quest 3. The Audio is a known bugs and if you know Meta finally fix it let us know! So far they just don't want to complete with Apple Vision Pro so all these cool features are in their back burner. It is a shame. But hopefully they can fix it soon.
Why is the FOV of the final video reduced? It's like cropped, can I avoid that?
Then you will lost stabilization - which is more important in this case
@@hughhou yeah, I figured it out yesterday. For me light stabilization was a good compromise between stability and fov
Is it the same meta data to make the videos viewable in SkyBox VR video player?
Yes!
Hi ! Is it possible to take 3D Photos (photos, not videos)
Yes. You can grab still from video - that is actually how Apple Vision Pro does it as well. Still form Video capture.
Thank you, Hugh!
My pleasure!
It should be - or very close. What is the different?
@@hughhou As what shown in 7:28, it could only be watched in Theatre Mode with proper ratio. If I turn off Theatre Mode, the image will be bended.
How does one reset the recording settings once you do "adb shell setprop debug.oculus.screenCaptureEye 2"?
You do "adb shell setprop debug.oculus.screenCaptureEye 1" to reset to 1 eye and then use the settings menu for the rest
Hey, great video, would you (or anyone else) be willing to drop a short sample clip. I'm much more interested in capturing 3D video of the real world then to capture MR content (still interesting of course)

I posted a clip above in the comment from martinr5688.
make sure you are cd into the folder where your render file is loaded.. as a Mac user trying to get my head around this process, I'm still totally baffled. Could you elaborate?
Yes, you type cd and space and then drag the whole folder into the terminal and it will pull your full path into the code. You just need to make sure when you run code, it is inside the folder of your actual video file.
@@hughhou thanks sorry where do I type cd though?
and how do you disable the 3D mode in the headset ? do we have to change it only they command lines to switch back to 2D recording ?
When I open the camera app and click o record it works, but when I press the meta + trigger button for 2 seconds it doesn't trigger video recording. Any ideas why? Anything I need to do to enable this shortcut?
You might have the shortcut turn off in settings in Quest 3

hello, I follow your tutorial steps to record 3d videos using my quest 3(enable develop mode and all the settings), but I cannot find 3d videos in my oculus videoshots folder. Do you know how to resolve it? I also purchase the immerGallery app you recommend, still no recorded video found. :(
Did you press the record button in the Meta menu to start recording and later pressed stop?
Maybe the latest meta 3 firmware close this feature?
@@zlinoliver Don't think so. v59 should still be the latest version and you should always be able to record game content (independent of passthrough). Could your device be full, not having enough free space to record?
Instead of the shortcut "How to Record Video on Meta Quest 3 (shortcut)", you can also press the Meta button. A menu opens with a small camera icon. Press this to start. Close that menu with the Meta button. When done, press the Meta button again. Now press the stop icon/button there.
Yes, I do press trigger and meta button at the same time to start recording and press them to stop. I can see there is a meta circle animation. But nothing shows up in my oculus videoshots folder, try restart the quest 3, nothing works.@@immerVR

Wow thank you so much!!
Thanks
Have you check settings inside the headset to make sure you did not turn passtho off? This does not modify pass tho at all.
When I turn the device off and on, this feature gets disabled. Is there a way to make it permanent?
cool but considering the cameras are only 4mp and need a lot of light to look half way decent I do not think i would even bother.
That is true. I hope the Vision Pro camera can be better
The daylight captures look reasonably good considering this is a free 3D camera included in Quest 3 for experimentation. Indoor, it looks (obviously) pretty similar to what you see in your regular passthrough mode on Quest 3. Some noise, but gets better the more light you add.

4k is "normally" 3840x2160. Is the camera unable to do that?
Cannot find where to download the sdk platform tools apk anywhere on the website. only the windows based exe files.
Try use Homebrew - probably the easiest - work for PC as well same workflow as apple.
There also seems to be "MiniADB" - but I did not test it myself.
Couple notes after trying this to capture Dirt Rally 2.0 via Virtual Desktop on my Quest 3 - so my issues might be specific to my use -
1. Sound was ahead of video - thankfully it was a consistent out of sync and not like the variable frame rate sound issue I had on the quest 2.
2. Even though virtual desktop and the game were at 72 FPS, the captured video was only 30 FPS - I did use "fullRateCapture 0"
Waiting ❤😂🎉🎉
It is out now!
I was blown away to realize this wasn't built in.
It will be built in soon!

im using ffmpeg to inject 3d metadata and it doesnt work. Any tips or anything to be careful or pay attention?
Can you tell me which part does not work? Make sure your aspect ratio is 1:1 and size of the video is 2 by 1 - 3840 x 1920

@@hughhou did you squeeze the image so after youtube process it it stretchs back to normal? How much did you squeeze?
warning, if you cast the Meta Quest app, those ADB setting will change screen casting to split screen LR.
Yes. It’s a hack still until Meta take us seriously and make it as feature for 3D content creators.
Thanks

Hello, Is there a trick to record microphone ? It seems I can record the Video + Sound from application but not microphone
The app itself has to support audio capture. Anyone can help here? I am also having trouble recording my mic when in passtho mode as well...
Any ideas?
You probably need a player like Skybox or 4XVR. I have both apps and they work well.

The fact you even need step-by-step guide to do this shows how far behind the curve Meta is. Even smartphones have a 'Camera' app, so the fact that a device with stereoscopic 3D cameras does not have a 3D Camera app is a MAJOR miss on their part.
That's a great observation. I wonder if Meta could add this functionality with an update.
