Hi there! Thank you for your message and my apologies if the video was too unclear or shot from too far away. We have also written an article about the same subject, which shows clearly how signal cable should be stripped, maybe check that out as well: customboards.fi/pages/make-your-own-instrument-cable Best Regards Kimmo Aroluoma
The thin black PVC jacket on the insulation of the main conductor. It is actually semi-conductive it's present to help prevent micro phonic pickup noise from moving or tapping guitar cables. Not all cables will have this jacket. In my limited experience it seems to be possible to leave the jacket in place so long as you are careful not to have contact with your conductor or solder.
@@ZacGear Hi Zac! Thank you again for your comment. I would say the main reason for this insulation is to keep two conductors as much a part as possible in the same cable. I would strip it all off from inside the plug to prevent any reaction between the conductors. So it is not only this insulation to touch the tip. All the best! -Kimmo
This is not getting rid of cable capacitance, this is only sorting a semi short between conductor and screen
Audience didn't see anything. Next time a better close up on what was wrong :-/
