"All equally valid ." 😊.very seminal quote !Are the arts measurable as in competition s or exams . Some say not. I like the observation the competition win ers play music like people who play music to win competitions (more than for its own sake perhaps ? ) was second placed David Oistrak worse than Menuhin in the 1946 Carrl Flesch comp??
Depends on how its taught . Harmonically is not F maj easy with its low tonic 2nd on A. Its low leading note on E. Its opeg G supertonic , its low 1st on E as Tonic. Mixed ability peer group teaching can be faciltated thus.
C maj for violin beginnees on this particular melody/ tune has a low 2nd on A ,open G which is its easy access dominants,Open D ditto it's Supertonic, Open A its submediant ,open E its maj 3rd. This gives a beginner the chance to devote rhythm & develop bowing. & string crossing postponing the # finger extension stretching skills till later, note Suzukis early training of bow development before 1st finger and in Rollands case the 3rd finger.
Might you suggest that C maj on beginners violin stage affords eaSy access to the C maj open string root harmony ; II, Vl , V, III. And if rood it taught as 2nd finger on A rather than 3 on G.
I love the final version!
This tune I have been struggling with but no success at all. Hope this lesson will help, Thanks!
When in doubt, simplify!
Great choice of tune Chris. This is a favourite of mine. Cheers. 👍
Thanks John!

Certainly artistic endeavours compete for our attention, even if they don't intend to!
Teaching from a harmonic / rhythmic aspect of opens and bowing first in groups. ,? Just ideas .
The open strings do suggest 4 # keys but if looked at as other rootnotes of ,say ll or lll or lV or V or Vl of the key ?

Do you think the open key in Cmaj version is more accessible for newcomers to it?
I'd have thought G, D and A were all easier keys than C on the fiddle.
