@@PiercingTheDarkness do you think it would work if it was an LEP with a little bit of spill like the W3 Pro Tac? Or maybe if you took pictures instead of just video footage it would be seen better
8000 lumens even for a few seconds is insane. Definitely a hand warmer for those crisp nights. Nice beam for the form factor. Nice that that we have access to the battery down the road. Great review and night shots. Definitely going to be getting one of these. I wish Nitecore would get back into sustainable lumen race with the rest of the manufacturers. These new LEDs would be fantastic in a big multi.
I regularly walk my Dog at night. For this i use a variety of flashlights. Yesterday i used the ESC29 for the first time and it was a pleasant experience. I was able to illuminate my way fantastically, and when i needed a short burst of more light i hade the opportunity to use the 6500lm future. It really is a cool flashlight.
I've been thinking about one of these Nitecores with Luminshield, but really like the Rovyvon E90 build and side lights too. It's just so bright, but such a short burst for even search... damn it, everything is a tradeoff!!! Stupid physics.
If there's an award for the most decisive video of a flashlight before making a purchase, Piercing The Darkness will most definitely have my vote! From the clear video, photos and music, and the editing, it's just so good.I make most of my decisions after watching your reviews. The latest being the MT1A Pro, which i pushed aside as I agreed with the cons on that light. Green tints shouldn't be on any light, in my opinion. And for this EDC29, despite it looking good, that built-in battery and that short search mode isn't worth it due to the extreme heat. My EDC33 is just collecting dust now. Anyhow, nice video, mate!
Thank you. Well, the search mode at 3000 doesn't produce the same heat, so there's no reason why it couldn't have been pushed to 20 seconds at least. The EDC25 allows you to spam turbo, there's no cooldown. If it can handle 6500 - 8000 for 10 seconds, then it should last longer at 3000. If one needs a flat light then it's decent, but it's not something I'd personally buy since it's really only a 1200 lumen light. It's a little annoying how more and more brands are now choosing to do away with the 30 sec ANSI measurements.
@PiercingTheDarkness it's brilliant how you can put in words what i can't really to explain my annoyance with new lights in the market now. It IS really a 1200 lumens light, and yes, I can spam turbo on EDC25! I just can't understand why the manufacturers are doing this. Hence why I'm not interested in this EDC29. What more after your review. Keep up the wonderful work, and I'm looking forward to more! Cheers.

Very nice review! Just gotten mine. I have only two complaints: 1. The belt clip is way too stiff 2. The surface scratches too easily, but maybe that could be the charm of EDC eh? The patina or marks of it being used.
How would you rate the tint? Looks a bit too warm for my taste, but of course color rendering on vids can be deceiving. I tend to look for lights rated in the 5000-6000K range, more or less won't cut it. Thnx!
I have both the EDC 27 and 27 UHi there is really nothing much between them, along with a fairly recently purchased EDC 29. I prefer the 27’s to carry as the pocket clip is sufficiently deeper to make a difference. Although the 29 is an awesome touch it just does not carry as well, I now use it as my dedicated dog walking touch in which it is about perfect.
@@blackforestghost1 I watched another video where they disassembled one. There really isn't any protection of the electronic components from water. I just ordered one, but I won't consider it a very water resistant light.... that's OK for the way I expect to be using it. For "heavy rain," no way. Every light is a compromise. Want 6500 lm for longer time? Well, it's going to be bigger and heavier to manage heat. I think this is pretty cool for a small and slim pocket light. 1200 lm with long run-time in my pocket with a huge temporary boost mode.... I'll take it.
The one thing I love about the EDC25 is that I can spam turbo. The EDC29 you have 10 sec and then wait a bit, if it's hot then it's disabled until it cools off. Understandable with the lumin shield, but kind of sucks for the search mode.

Not buying a light with a proprietary battery is understandable, but limiting yourself to only high CRI lights will definitely limit your options of throwers
I don't care much about CRI, but I do care about tint and Kelvin. I would say high CRI is unecessary unless you're using the flashlight for professional photography/shooting videos. Color temperature (K) and tint is more important if you want a pleasant beam for everyday use 🙂 I have low CRI neutral white lights that look far better than 5000K lights with high CRI leds. It's all about the tint. Personally I prefer the slightly rosy tint over greenish yellow for example.
Just wanting to know why you think its a scam? Its a high end 1200lm flashlight that can do 6500lm is short bursts. I have a olight arkfeld pro which is 1300lm but only for 4 min. This will last 2hrs on 1200lm and its basically the same price?
It's not a scam. It's a feature. I own the EDC 29 and find the momentary burst of 6500 lumens to be sufficient. This is the brightest most advanced EDC flashlight on the market now. You're being highly unreasonable if you think a light this small should burn that bright for sustained time without overheating and damaging the LEDs or burning your hand off.
