For this finished blanket, I used Paintbox Simply DK and a 4mm crochet hook.100g of Cerulean Blue, 100g of Washed Teal, 100g of Storm Grey, 100g of Paper White.

If making other than a baby blanket is the starting chain the same?

Yes, starting chain will be the same, just make the strips longer for the length and more strips for the width
