Linus Roache played this role so good. With his charisma you can actually believe people would follow him. A show called Vikings about Vikings but my favorite character is an English King
Loved him for his grace, eloquence, choice of words and the way he handled friends and enemies alike with the only difference that he wore a velvet glove over an iron fist while dealing with enemies. Such a fascinating character.
This man is who you see at the top of every family tree of the rulers of England! What he started in Wessex in 802 AD led eventually to what English culture and civilization became and spread around the world from Australia to North America! Even though his lands were much smaller, his legacy is up there with Charlemagne in France and Otto in Germany! I'm happy that Vikings gave this man his due, although in historical fiction, so that now people may know how important he was to what so many have for culture today!
This part of the series had such depth of characters and the relationship that was forged while talking intimately about their "truths" ... so similar yet worlds apart.... EPIC!! thank you for sharing this!!
I would sleep with the devil if he would show me how to achieve my earthly goals. Your kingdom lord, as you have said, is not of this world, but my kingdom is. -King Ecbert
It saddens me because this series was amazing, but I’ve learned so much more about my own history since the day I first watched it. It’s as if Hirst had a gcse pass grade history student advising him on how to build the western world. As if in 800AD the whole of Britannia was England, and the whole of Scandinavia was Norway… there’s no mention of frisians, the welsh, the Picts, or basically any of the Irish. And the brits are puny victims while the pagans are legendary…
If only he was born in Roman Britain he could have reached far in the civilia colegia and then an internship in Italy, perhaps Ravenna or Melodianum. Then upon return he would be a great candidate for commander of Britain, perhaps a native Briton would be the first commander to be filled to the brim by love of Britain, it's hedges and meadows. That Britannia would endure.
King Ecbert is maybe the best acting in the series…
Best character to me hands down. His open mind was a thing to behold. The roman tapestry and painting scene gave me chills.
I love how he died in the same way when we were first introduced to him sitting alone in his pool

Ecbert was better character than ragnar, and best antagonist than Ivar,Oleg and harald
He’s an Oscar nominated actor
Ecbert was so fascinating

Yes completely agreed
Loved his character!
By far the best actor in the entire series…
Outstanding tribute to such a complex and interesting king.
2 years later, I'm still here.

I'm watching this video two times a day, the editing... it's a masterpiece!
There's a lot you can learn from this character...
“Are you corrupt?” “Oh yes…”
I LOVED that scene!!!

Amazing work. You captured his essence and made a great music choice. Keep up the good work.
Vikings ended for me the moment King Ragnar and King Ecbert died.
Your kingdom, as you have said, is not of this world… but my kingdom is.

Such a royal character

Time Flies...
I think Ekbert was a viking in his heart.
Great Charakter second to Ragnar 🔥👑
Very true. My best character after Ragnar
i’m a titan🧍🏼♂️
What’s the music for the first part?
i dont remember a demon at 1:48 was in the series... where he from?
It is one of bishop Heahmund visions of hell. Might be season 5 episode 15 if I'm not mistaken. The one with the battle of Marton.
