- Merry Christmas! I know it's Thanksgiving week, but turkey tastes the same even if the Christmas tree is up. Besides, if we can stretch celebrating Jesus' birth a few extra days, that's fine by me! Today's video includes instructions on how to make your own evergreen garland, how to dry oranges, & a killer recipe for a Christmas simmer pot.
How to dry orange slices
4-6 naval oranges
slice thinly, and pat dry. place on a baking sheet & bake at 250 for 1.5 hours, or until dry. Bake time will vary depending on the thickness of the orange slices.
Recipe for a Christmas Simmer pot
in a crockpot or saucepan add the following:
6 cups of water
orange slices or rinds
apple slices
cranberries
2-3 cinnamon sticks, whole
Allspice (preferably whole, but ground works well too)
cloves (same as above)
2 bay leaves

We always taught our young toddlers not to touch the tree, instead we wave and say "Hi tree" - it worked with my three :D
We always taught our kids there were certain things they could only touch with 1 finger. This not only works for the tree, but once they learn the concept you can say "This is a 1 finger store..." before you go into a place with breakables. Another thing we did was put all the fabric and nonbreakables on the bottom of the tree. We allowed our kids to play with those and I just rearranged them on Christmas Eve or before company. Part of the magic of Christmas is finding ways to include kids in every part of the season, in their own way. These tips helped us achieve this goal while staying sane.

Oh yes, a Christmas video! I love that time of year, if my husband let me I would be decorating for Christmas in September 😅

Beautiful garland - loved the oranges. I had a friend one time put her Christmas tree inside of her playpen. She said her child hated the playpen so he stayed away from the tree - ha!

Put unbreakable decorations on bottom of tree, and if you let you oldest son help you decorate he will feel like he is helping. I had two boys that were 15 months apart, just loved them so much. Now they are grown God loving men. Praise the Lord, have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

You are so funny with your gold antlers. I didn't know how easy it was to make garland. Thanks for sharing that. My toddler pulled the Christmas tree down twice before we had the smarts to anchor it to the wall. He just couldn't help himself when he saw all the shiny ornaments and lights. Also he will look at me n then the tree and I just need to say no and give him that look and he walks away lol. Thats just what works for me
Callan has been doing so good with the tree. The first day it was up, it took a few reminders that it's not a toy, and now he just stands beside it and says "whooaaa"

When mine were little, we put the tree inside a baby "yard" (a plastic fence thingy). It was annoying to deal with if I needed to reach the tree for something, but it kept littles away from all the ornaments and presents.

Even with my grands…I believe in the word no and then thank you when they obey. I have lots of breakable ornaments so I purposely place the cloth soft ones on the lower half. Kids need boundaries to become good adults . Loved your headpiece …what’s the recipe for the orange slices🥰

I've seen some people use a pet gate.
Don't worry about kiddos touching the Christmas 🎄... Just put ornaments down low that you don't mind them playing with. They will have a blast and less stress for momma. It won't be picture perfect but as a momma of grown ups it will be worth it for the memories. As they get older they lose the interest. And your tree will not get messed with.

Also abt the copywrite stuff...I know this option isnt the CLASSIC Christmas tunes but you could just play the copywrite free music you use for videos..play it on another device if you wanna talk while decorating or just decorate using b=roll footage of you actually decorating and then play your royalty free music.

I have put my tree in a playpen, I have hung it from the ceiling.
I did the same.
We had a 1 finger rule. You can touch the tree with 1 finger. It worked for my two boys 😊
Toddlers are so naturally curious that I kept the lower branches for the non-breakable ornaments and made sure the tree was anchored really well!

Girls, you all need a THANKSGIVING TREE!!🦃 It gives you an excuse to decorate early. Put orange lights and such on the tree. Then switch to Christmas after Thanksgiving. It's GREAT
I trained my boys this phrase “ Look with your eyes not with your hands.” Then I set an area where they could look with their hands.

When my kids were little, the ornaments were on the top half of the tree, not on the bottom half..lol. That's the only way I could keep them from breaking my ornaments.
Let him decorate the bottom and have those decorations be “baby safe” that way they do get to touch the tree without wrecking anything or hurting themselves. I find if they’re “allowed” to touch it’s not that much fun anymore :p

Surprisingly no! He's kept his hands off of it for the most part. :)
