What’s impressive is the fact that chat was functioning at all.
Chat is, in fact, not functioning, even with filters enabled.
It turns out chat systems kind of break down when 100K people gather in a single channel with a good portion of them (i.e. tens of thousands of people) trying to spam messages of considerable length all at once. Excluding messages that trip a filter, only a very small portion of messages that people attempt to send (i.e. type into the chat box and then hit Enter) actually go through and show up on other viewers' screens.
