My dad always made this for us! We call it Šato, and he'd make it with milk instead of wine for the kids... except when we had a cold - that's when a little wine Šato would warm you up and put you right to sleep! 😂
Ha, we used to make this all the time over Christmas. Drink just became a thing of legend where we forgot how it came about, when it was made, or what it was called. It just became our Christmas drink over time. I do remember my mom starting to add Brandy to it a few years ago. I think I'll introduce orange liqueur this year. Thanks for giving it a name.
my grandma used to make that to, when she was sick. she was originally from southern styria. she even called it schato, an other example how much southern Austria is influenced by slovenian language and culture. i think thats quite exciting 😀
I am an American who travelled to Slovenia for vacation in October. I had no idea you were from Slovenia until this video. We had even passed your bar in Maribor one day! I am devastated I didn’t realize before our trip! Absolutely loved Slovenia though and will be back.
I really like your videos' style, feels somehow super serious yet super decontrated! That said, this recipe sound fabolous and I will definitely try it once I leave a bottle of wine open!
@@KevinKos The recipe has basically everything to be a success... except the wine I used 😅 it was too acidic. That said it was *much* better in the cocktail over being by itself, so I'll definitely try that again later (perhaps with red wine!). Cheers!
I revisited the recipe, this time with a blackcurrant wine this time plus replaced the cognac with a slightly funky rum & with a cinamon topping. It's amazing! Will definitely do it again with different wines to figure the one(s) I like this with :)
Wow, as a flip afficionado I have to try this one! But I have a couple questions: what kind of wine do you use (dry or sweet? Light or complex?) and to make multiple drinks do you prepare them separately or in a batch then poured in several glasses (I guess it could be bad for the froth but making them separately looks like it would take a huge amount of time)? Finally, have you tried it cold? Or is it only to drink hot?
I used a semi-dry cover for this one. You can, of course, scale it up and make it in a bigger pot. You might need an electric whipper on low speed, and you should be good. I haven't tried it cold yet. We drank it before it had a chance to become cold 😄😅

That Villeroy & Boch cup gives me strong home vibes and adds +10 slavness to the drink 👍🏻

You are welcome! It's lovely to see that you had this drink around Christmas too. Cheers!
You are indeed an INSPIRATION KEVIN! Cheers…

It is! We share a lot of words and culture, for sure! Cheers!
Masters at work!
We call it šodó, make it with rum and use it as dip for sweet buns...I loved it as kid and still do. Awesome video 🤩
Awesome! Thank you!
Your vids are a treat!
Thank you!
This sounds absolutely lovely I will try this soon!
Awesome! Cheers!

So happy to hear you enjoyed your time in Slovenia! Stay in touch and let me know when you're coming back, cheers!
We have a similar wooden tool in Colombia. It's called a Monenillo and you use it when making Hot Chocolate!
Mmm, hot chocolate 🤤😉
Definitely gonna try this one!
Nice! Let me know how you like it 🥂
DEFINITELY trying this soon
Nice! Enjoy!
I never heard of this drink before. It was delicious!!! I need to try it out with rum!
Rum would be a great addition to this one, for sure! Now you know what you'll drink on these cold days 😉🥂
Sēto! I'll definitely make this and we'll see how it goes!!
Awesome! Enjoy and let me know how you like it ☺️🥂
Funny, you are serving your first version in the same dinning set my mom has... Wild Rose by Villeroy & Boch? Brought back some memories!
Nice! Nice looking set for sure!
My grandmother would make screwdrivers,.. but never shared them with me.
😃🥂

Really enjoyed learning about your family's drinking traditions, Kevin! Thank you for sharing such a special recipe. Cheers!
So glad you like it! Cheers!
You're making a sabayon. Very tasty.
True. Thanks!
Cool recipe Kevin! Thank you. Any suggestions on the type of white wine?
I used semi-dry Cuvee in here. It worked perfectly.
Looks delicious! Would white vermouth work instead of wine? (and if so, dry or blanco?)
It's worth trying, but I think it's too dry for this. You might want to try to mix it.
Would this work well with rum instead of cognac? (Mostly because I don't have good cognac but I do have good rum)
That's it, I'm going to slovenia.
Welcome! 😉
@@KevinKos seriously, what's the adress of your bar?
@@auto_math I don't work behind the bar anymore. However, I live in Maribor.
I wonder if there's something that could be added to stabilise that foam a bit more so it doesn't vanish so quickly...
The foam is basically stable once it's heated and mixed correctly.

@@KevinKos Thanks, I'll give it a try then! :D
Can we drink after cooled from freezer?
I haven't tried it like this yet. For sure it's best to drink it warm.
cocktail videos going the way of cigars so now I have to search them in order to watch them, YT won't propose them any longer...
Strange! I hope not 😬 Thank you for your effort to search for the video.
