OMG!!! after months of trying and failing to make right foam for cappuccino using my espresso machine today I finally did it with this super cheap tool from Ikea! not perfect latte art yet but 100% PERFECT MICROFOAM!!! all thanks to your videos! Thank you so much.
Ugly Blog what was the catch? I have been trying for a few months and still can't get the foamy milk right, I honestly don't understand why it won't happen, is it because I am using organic milk? Do I need an electric more powerful frother? Or is it the way, angle and duration where the mystery lies! Help?
Linguistic Alino I wish I could!!! I don't really know... I use the cheap one from Ikea. What I do is trying to make all the bubbles disappear in the vortex that frother creates. You should place it in the middle depth: not too close to the bottom, not too close to the surface. Even if you make a mistake and there is a lot of bubbles, you can make them go by creating a vortex and making the bubbles go down)) Omg. I'm not making any sense! I hope you'll get the hang of it!!

I would like to see when you put a wand in to see the angle of it. I tried at home, I ended up with too thick foam milk not silky. Please give me some advice.
Reduce the amount of air you put in at the start, and increase the time you put the frother under the milk to homogenize the froth and milk + swirl more afterwards
I have been trying to do this in vain for weeks now with a similar battery operated frother from bed Bath and beyond. I was pretty sure there was no way to do it because of the simultaneous heat/motion needed as with traditional espresso machine. So glad I stumbled on your video to find out exactly how to do it ,so thank you! I'm going to try it next time I have an espresso and see how it comes out. THANK YOU!
In some way using instant coffee is better than brewing from coffee grounds, because this allows using very little amount of water, much like espresso.
Amazing! I purposely bought a four battery frother because my IKEA one didn't work well. You have proved that the IKEA frother can do the job just as well with proper technique! Thank you! *Haha you did those funny scenes at the end on purpose :D
Okay I fr can’t get over how quick this guy is at doing the latte arts. 😱 Most videos go more slowly but he just zoom! and bam, here’s a cute leaf. Like wuuut? 🤯
Sherlock Putting air (also called incorporating air or injecting air) is when you keep the frother tip or steam wand top very close to the top so that the actual foam is made by mixing air and milk. Mixing foam involves sinking the tip of the frother or steam wand deeper into the milk and angling it so that you create a “whirlpool” spinning effect. This incorporates the foam you created in the first step into the milk, which helps develop the milk texture into something smooth and creamy with micro-foam that’s good for latte art. If you want more foam for something like a cappuccino then you would spend more time injecting air, but for a latte it only needs a few seconds of injecting air before submerging the tip. Hope this helps!
Hi, love your video! I used to work as a barista at an indie café, so ever since I left, I've been trying to find ways to recreate the milk for my coffee at home in an affordable way because I love pulling latte art. Thank you for this video! I can finally confirm my decision to get a handheld instead of a steamer+frother cup machine. I just have one question: I was taught to keep the milk at 63°C, or 65° as the boundary. My colleagues said the milk tastes best at this temperature, any higher and it would lose its sweetness, by 70° it would actually taste bitter. I noticed that your caption states 70° for the milk, does that mean microwaving or oven-heating the milk affects the taste in a different way compared to using the espresso machine's steam wand? Would love to get your advice on this :)
Yes, exactly right. 60°C is the best temperature for steamed milk. But my foamed milk is not steamed. When the steam heats milk over 60°C, the steam breaks milk foam and spoils milk taste. The milk heated over 60°C by oven or microwave is not so bitter. And it don't affect milk foam at all. The milk heated to 70°C is put air into and is frothed. Then its temp. becomes about 60°C. If you stop microwave under 60°, the temp. of your latte is under 50°C. It's not hot enough. I and many people like coffee over 60°C. So I want to make coffee hot as possible. Frothing over 70°C milk, we must scald our hand. That's the reason. It's true that the milk steamed well is better taste than the one heated by oven or microwave. Thank you for your good question.

I tried it this morning, here's the problem. By frothing the milk for 1 minute with the IKEA frother (whole milk, 60/65 degrees), it became very thick and dense, so when I poured it into the coffee, it became all white (foam/milk on top, coffee at the bottom), making it impossible to do any latte art...any tips?

@@cappuccinable aaargh I just ordered 600oz milk pitcher, shall I cancel the order and get a 400oz or can I froth it with a 600oz too? Consider I need it for 2 cappuccinos... thank you for the replies
Don’t forget to swirl the pitcher. If you find the milk to be a little too foamy, just discard a little bit of the foam on the top and swirl the milk again until all the microfoam is distributed evenly again.
Hi! I really like your videos, but I don't get what does it mean "put air in the milk and then mix bubbles with milk". how you do that exactly? do you change the position of the frother or what?
Hi, Ugly Blog! "put air in the milk" means to make bubble, or to make foam. @1:08 "mix bubble with milk" means to stir the bubbles and the foam into milk. @1:12 The differences between two process is the position and the angle of the frother and the milk jug. Watch my videos carefully and find them. Keep it up!
It's not easy with soya milk. Soya milk don't contain fat. Soya milk foam disappear from the surface for a few minutes. But someday I will take the video. Thanks.
Your milk contains too much air for latte art. Watch my other vids. Read my web. At only first 3 sec you may put air into milk. Then all you can do is mix bubble into milk. Try mixing not to put much air in. You can do it!
I did everything like you , I have the same pitcher , I’ve put the same amount of milk as you did , but when I froth the milk it’s going too high and went out from the pitcher , and idea why this is happening?
There are some possibilities. Batteries are too high voltage, or the motor is too strong. But I think you need more practices to make good foamed milk. Try it, try it again, try it more. You need change the angle and the position of milkfrother and pitcher. You can do it.
Same here I got a lottttt of foam and milk liquid almost disappeared 😦 maybe this could be solved by reducing the frothing time? Please advise 🙄 thank u!
Hi, I've watched your videos so many times trying to learn to do latte art 😂 just wanted to ask, if bubbles appear after foaming, does it mean I didn't foam enough? Because I've tried to pour immediately after foaming and I also did the circle and tapping. Thank you so much!
The fact that there a visable bubbles means that there is too much air, you have over-foamed haha. Just do your circle and tapping as per usual. If there is a blob of foam on top, use a table spoon and scoop out about 1-2 scoops of foam, and try circling again. This time you’ll notice a white paint consistency instead of a blob. Thats the consistency for latte, then pour away!
Dippy fresh I get what you mean, I think the consistency is somewhat correct? It’s like the perfect texture (no obvious plop of foam and then milk below) but then bubbles appear afterwards and they make the foam fizz away :( does that make sense?
TheGirlWithABrokenSmile update! I made it but still need to work on my latte ART haha! What I did is I think it took me 4seconds of aeration since I can’t find the perfect vortex that Im looking, it took me a total of 1:10 seconds of frothing. I think the amount of milk on your milk jug affects the frothing also because when I filled it more than the usual amount of milk that Im using (since I dont like to waste milk) I made a perfect vortex and the result is a wet paint like that Im looking and I dont need to tap it since there is no big bubbles I just have to do the circling for consistency.
TheGirlWithABrokenSmile oh man, the foam fizzed away? Maybe try tapping and circling for a few more seconds. Im not sure whats the exact problem tho D:
Hi, my milk froth has a lot of foam and when I pour it, the foam comes out first.. so it ends up as a cup of coffee with milk foam on top instead of a latte art on top. How to solve this?
I'd say you put too much air into milk. You have to put air for 2-3 seconds and then mix them for 90 seconds. more informations, go to my web cappuccio.nobody.jp/frothertukurikataENG.html
do we have to add cocoa powder to make a latte art?? or is it optional?? and to heat the milk can we just boil it?? I have tried so many times but always failed..
Cerys Sutton, thank you for reply to this question. Cocoa powder is very important for my method. cuz the coffee in this vid is not espresso. Silky layer like crema of espresso is needed. Cocoa powder makes milk foam silky. I think professional barista do not use cheap milkfrother and instant coffee.
You found my playing hooky again. I am a lazy man almost laziest man in the world. But I will upload the best latte art technique video very soon. It will be earlier than the release of Back to the Future part4 .
Hot milk is needed. Foam of cold milk disappears soon. Watch my videos, try it watch my videos and try it again. Don't give up. You will make it after some more practices. ;-)
That's latte I would like to make cappuccino with the same tool. Should I use the same amount of 2g coffee, 28ml water and how much milk 100ml ? I think I should put air longer than 4 sec and how long to mix foam also 60 sec ? Thanks for answer.
2g of coffee powder is just a guide. You can use the amount as you like. and the amount of milk should be 160-200ml with IKEA's frother. The first 4 sec is OK, then 60 sec is OK. All you need are some practices. Keep it up!!
JOHN SAHAGUN if theres too much foam (when your circle your milk, theres a blob of foam on top) thats for cuppucino. Try scoping out one or two table spoons of that blob of foam and circle your milk again until the milk looks like and has the consistency of white paint, then that will be for latte
JOHN SAHAGUN hm 2 seconds is considered short if you use the steamer from a coffee machine, it’d probably make flat white type of milk. But this is a frother so things might be different, maybe try to aerate it for a second, and then submerge the frother into the milk. Just note that the longer you aerate it, the more foam there will be. So if u r avoiding cappuccino, just aerate it for a shorter while.
The mug is my favorite. It's not sold at store now. but round shaped 8 OZ coffee cup like that is OK. The 12 OZ milk jug made by RATTLE WARE. The milk frother was sold at IKEA. You can buy them at AMAZON or any other internet shop. Search them at your favorite shop. Thx ;-)
Hi. Great video! I have a problem which the froth become too thick it didn’t comes out with the milk when i pour it. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks!
Take care not to put much air into milk. Your stir is not enough. Circle the jug after frothing. Pour it immediately. Don't pour it slowly. Pour it powerfully and bravely. Try it!
@@cappuccinable The whole frothing process is covered by your hand and when you are pouring the milk you are working too far away. Really hard to figure it out what is happening, even though the end results are perfect.

I tried but I failed, the milk totally mixed with coffee when I try to pour, is it my milk frothing method goes wrong? Or milk type? I'm using fresh milk Thank you for your video and I'm zero knowledge about latte art😂😂
I'm no latte artist, but maybe you didn't put enough air in your milk. The milk should almost double in size and be really light. Also, I think 2% fat milk is easier to use than skimmed milk or nut milk. It's not easy to master, and I only know the theory, aha
Pour the milk closer to the surface of the coffee. If you pour from too high it will go under the coffee. Ideally you should start pouring the milk high and near the end of the pour go really close so the foam will stay on top. There are videos on youtube showing how to do latte art.

what's the different between putting air and mixing foam ?

By frothing the milk for 1 minute with the IKEA frother (whole milk, 60/65 degrees), it became very thick and dense, so when I poured it into the coffee, it became all white (foam/milk on top, coffee at the bottom), making it impossible to do any latte art...any tips?
Many guys made all white cappuccino like you. You should control air. More information, watch my other videos and read my web. thank you!

@@cappuccinable aaargh I just ordered 600oz milk pitcher, shall I cancel the order and get a 400oz or can I froth it with a 600oz too? Consider I need it for 2 cappuccinos... thank you for the replies
I meant 600ml obviously
I recommend 350-400ml milk jug to beginners.
And pour milk one by one.
Don’t forget to swirl the pitcher. If you find the milk to be a little too foamy, just discard a little bit of the foam on the top and swirl the milk again until all the microfoam is distributed evenly again.
Congratulations... great video. Great video explanation.
Thank you !!

Hi! I really like your videos, but I don't get what does it mean "put air in the milk and then mix bubbles with milk". how you do that exactly? do you change the position of the frother or what?
Hi, Ugly Blog! "put air in the milk" means to make bubble, or to make foam. @1:08
"mix bubble with milk" means to stir the bubbles and the foam into milk. @1:12
The differences between two process is the position and the angle of the frother and the milk jug.
Watch my videos carefully and find them. Keep it up!
Unbelievable!!! Awesome
thank you! you can try it!! ;-)

Pleasure to be a help to you!
Thanks! ;-9
Great stuff! Have you tried it with soya milk?
It's not easy with soya milk. Soya milk don't contain fat. Soya milk foam disappear from the surface for a few minutes. But someday I will take the video. Thanks.
wow this is perfect!
I have a milk frother but I can't make the milk like you do it, it always comes lika a cappuccino foam.
can you explain me how to do it right?
Your milk contains too much air for latte art. Watch my other vids. Read my web.
At only first 3 sec you may put air into milk. Then all you can do is mix bubble into milk.
Try mixing not to put much air in.
You can do it!
It’s been weeks or a year, i can’t put battery in it
2 AA-sized batteries are needed for IKEA's milk frother. You should put them in it next year. thank you ;-)
I did everything like you , I have the same pitcher , I’ve put the same amount of milk as you did , but when I froth the milk it’s going too high and went out from the pitcher , and idea why this is happening?
There are some possibilities. Batteries are too high voltage, or the motor is too strong. But I think you need more practices to make good foamed milk. Try it, try it again, try it more. You need change the angle and the position of milkfrother and pitcher. You can do it.
Same here, the foam was too thick.
Maybe too high/low fat percentage in the milk?
Same here I got a lottttt of foam and milk liquid almost disappeared 😦 maybe this could be solved by reducing the frothing time? Please advise 🙄 thank u!

Hi, I've watched your videos so many times trying to learn to do latte art 😂 just wanted to ask, if bubbles appear after foaming, does it mean I didn't foam enough? Because I've tried to pour immediately after foaming and I also did the circle and tapping. Thank you so much!
TheGirlWithABrokenSmile I think you introduced too much air in the beginning …
You have to put air for 2-3 seconds and then mix them for 90 seconds. more informations, go to my web
cappuccio.nobody.jp/frothertukurikataENG.html
do we have to add cocoa powder to make a latte art?? or is it optional?? and to heat the milk can we just boil it?? I have tried so many times but always failed..
Yandra Wijaya I am a barista at work and we never add chocolate powder to make the art but I think it gives it a nice look!
if you failed, do just like this vid.
for more info, read my web.
cappuccio.nobody.jp/frothertukurikataENG.html
Cerys Sutton, thank you for reply to this question.
Cocoa powder is very important for my method.
cuz the coffee in this vid is not espresso.
Silky layer like crema of espresso is needed.
Cocoa powder makes milk foam silky.
I think professional barista do not use cheap milkfrother and instant coffee.
Could you please tell me, which batteries 🔋 are you using to this? I can’t found
2. AA battery
Yes, AA size. ;-)
Unfortunately, I had two of those and they both stopped working 😔
Mine too😩
buy it again. It's very cheap. And try it again!
For the third time? Nah...
It costs lower than an espresso machine. I always buy them as many as I can carry. Because it easily breaks.
I bought Prestige milk frother from Carrefour, it's also available on Amazon. Good price and good quality. I am very satisfied with it.
Pretty amazing art
I have that since about 2 years but I never ever use it because I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ the battery I can’t see
Thanks for your vid! Its really useful for me to make my morning flatwhites
Make more latte art video please
You found my playing hooky again. I am a lazy man almost laziest man in the world. But I will upload the best latte art technique video very soon. It will be earlier than the release of Back to the Future part4 .
doesnt work.. just makes a small amount of foam on top, and nothing else on the bottom, then the small foam goes away after 10 secs
Thanks i need like this one....Take love❤✌
Any tips out there? I always end up making cappuccino instead of latte 😂 I dont know when to stop for latte. Thank you in advance 🙋♂️
JOHN SAHAGUN if theres too much foam (when your circle your milk, theres a blob of foam on top) thats for cuppucino. Try scoping out one or two table spoons of that blob of foam and circle your milk again until the milk looks like and has the consistency of white paint, then that will be for latte
Dippy fresh I see. I will try that tomorrow morning.
Thank you by the way :)
JOHN SAHAGUN welcome! Hope it helps! ^^
Dippy fresh also do I need to aerate for few more seconds? I mean I only do it for 2secs
So if u r avoiding cappuccino, just aerate it for a shorter while.
is there a specific milk to use for frothing it?
It's not specific. This is just whole milk sold by any stores. You can buy it and make it. thank you;-)
Where did u buy the mug?
please share me the link to buy the milk pitcher frother mug.
Thx ;-)
should i use whole milk or skim Milk (low-fat milk) ?
You should use whole milk. It's not easy to make it with low fat milk. thank you ;-)
Try it!
I will try see if will come right for me thank you let you know 💓🥰🌹💜🍰

Which milk do u use?
cappuccio.nobody.jp

You need to slide the battery cover to the side, then it clicks open. Put in one AA battery, then the other. Then just close the battery cover and slide it closed until you hear the "click" that it's locked.

No, low milk fat one is not suitable. Especially for latte art beginners. I recommend latte art beginners to do as I do.
The other method or material makes latte art difficult.

I can't for the life of me understand what you mean when you say "put air into the milk". What does it mean?

Thanks! hahaha ;-)
I tried but I failed, the milk totally mixed with coffee when I try to pour, is it my milk frothing method goes wrong? Or milk type? I'm using fresh milk
Thank you for your video and I'm zero knowledge about latte art😂😂
I'm no latte artist, but maybe you didn't put enough air in your milk. The milk should almost double in size and be really light. Also, I think 2% fat milk is easier to use than skimmed milk or nut milk. It's not easy to master, and I only know the theory, aha
Pour the milk closer to the surface of the coffee. If you pour from too high it will go under the coffee. Ideally you should start pouring the milk high and near the end of the pour go really close so the foam will stay on top. There are videos on youtube showing how to do latte art.
