It never fails! An all-time great song and riff. And a genuinely great tone-testing riff! If Cat Scratch feels and sounds good through an amp, it’s a good amp. 🔥🤘
I just found out your channel. Your playing is great - super tight, aggressive and to top it up you have such great finger tone. Keep it up! You deserve so much more than just 1k subs. Cheers from Russia✌🏻
I knew quite quickly the difference in the tones lay somewhere in the speakers. To be honest, however, I thought it was just extremes of mic positioning for the same cab. You can easily try out changing it in amp sims. It also makes quite a difference to the tone.
Nice! Well done. It’s definitely not a groundbreaking concept and you’re right the experiment would’ve been easier with sims. But that’s not nearly as fun for me. 😂😂
I run a Marshall 1960A and a Peacey MS bottom cab. Both are loaded with V30's and vintage Eminence square mags in an X pattern. They sound like nothing else. I might be the only person in the world running this speaker combo.
definitely not the first person to come to that conclusion its actually pretty common for anybody who mixes speakers....But I mean, you take 2 of the greatest name speakers and stick em together your bound to get some tasty goodness
I'm glad you mentioned the room mic. I hate getting a great tone and then once you put a mic up to the speaker and listen back you think, what happened to my sweet tone !?!?! Gotta post EQ for an hour XD Good stuff man!! I'm gonna have to invest in a new cab one day to get a better tone out of my vintage PARK head amp!
Asbolutely, dude! Mic'ing is an entirely different dark art. You can make a bad amp sound good and a good amp sound bad with no problem. 😂 I wasn't trying to open that particular can of worms here! Also, you have a Park?! That's incredible. Good for you, dude. Let's go!
people forget, all those settings, pickups, pedals, and even the guitar......speaker is the biggest change in sound....even more so, arguably, than the head....
It's actually insane how dramatically different the tones are among just these three cabs. Throw more into the mix, and it only gets crazier. Yay, tone chasing! haha
I had marshall half stack FOREVER....yea they arent 100 lbs.....but they are heavy and awkward if you constantly have to move for gigs...I got a 6505+ 112 and stuck a v30 in it....I mic that up to a pa and it doesnt matter if im using 250w amp or 60w amp...it can get just as loud through a 4000w pa
Adding an EVH 2x12 to our little PRS MT15 produced a firebreathing chug-pocalypse. The CAB man, the CAB. It seems obvious to anyone that grew up listening to those big 70s living room speakers instead of a bluetooth speaker.
Completely agree..Cabinet makes a big difference..I have 5150 iconic and use it on my randall 4x12 with 4 Jaguars in it and it's awesome and I've played it on my peavey C212 with a vintage 30 and a G12T-75 in it and it's a different awesome but with both cabs it's over the top...the C212 has a speaker out and I can run both with that extra output I wish all cabs had the extra speaker out port
No doubt, Dale! It is super, super apparent when you hear them back to back, which is not really apparent in most situations. Normally if you're playing a different cab, it's far removed from whatever previous cab you were using. But when you shuffle back to back, it's super obvious. Imagine that. Speakers matter. haha
Great point. I should’ve mentioned that. Both cabs have the stock speakers. The Peavey has four Sheffield 1200s, and I’ll need to pop the back off the Micro Stack. I believe it’s a 10-inch Celestion custom made for the cab but I’ll double check.
@HunterHomistek I'm making em aht uh home depot pallets that used to be a Stillers corn hole board til my jag-off neighbors kid tried to jump his dirt bike off um an split em right dahn the middle
What does the video fail to deliver? I'm always trying to improve, so let me know how you think the actual content of the video fails to deliver on the title. When you say "clickbait," I think that means you clicked a video expecting one thing but got another thing. As in, you were baited in to click then disappointed in what you found. If a video gets you to click but then delivers actual content, that just seems like... an effective video? Maybe that's just me. But if the video is lacking something for you, I genuinely want to work on that and improve the content moving forward.
It was a blind tone test, brother. Not gonna spoil the outcome/point of the video before you hear the tones. I want your ears to influence what you think.
@@peachmelba1000 I have 850 subscribers and post like one video a year. It's not that deep, my brother. I'm just a dude with a guitar having some fun. haha
As soon as you start playing "Cat Scratch Fever" I subscribed. Well done! 💚🎸

Thanks for watching, Jeffrey! Glad you liked it. Really appreciate that.

@@corryburton9252 Not saying I'm the only one combining speakers but I don't know of anyone else combining these same speakers.
Yes yes yes... this video about to blow up 🤘

Glen from SpecterSoundStudio has been saying this for years! Glad to see speakers entering the guitar discourse a little more :)
Awesome! I'll have to check out his stuff. That's great.

Play an acoustic song 1 time. + Pinch fail.
You want me to play real music?! No way, Melissa!
Although... I do wonder if I could pinch on an acoustic now. Might have to try that.
All about the tone!!! Definitely obsessed with tone.
Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for the honesty!!
Heck yeah. Thanks for watching! Let's go, Tone!
4x12 cabs aren't all that heavy. Way less than 100 lbs.
haha Yeah, I was being a little dramatic there. But not fun to carry up and down stairs nonetheless. Ask me how I know. 😂

@@corryburton9252 I did Google it just to know... My Randall cab is 90 pounds. So I wasn't THAT far off. haha

Isn't it crazy? Why is it so overlooked? Heck, even myself! I didn't REALLY think about it until recently.
mic placement and eq ftw
Fantastic choices as well. An EQ in the loop is a gamebreaker.

Agreed. Buy you didn't mention what speakers were in the last two. Just that it was a Marshall and a Peavy.

V30 speakers are my favorite, I wouldn't mind trying them with the eminence 15 in the cab.
It really is a fantastic combination, man. I love that cab so much. And it’s built like a tank!
It’s too bad UA-cam shut down the old channels of substance and now promotes clickbait ba
