Idk.. some banks are kinda weird about refunds for stuff like this. Especially when it’s big amounts of money like this. I have a friend who had a similar situation where she accidentally left it in a drive thru and realized she forgot it went back the next day until she realized that someone had spent like $500 on amazon. She called her bank and asked what she can do if they will refund her money back but they didn’t approve it because of their “company policy” 🙄 so she never got that money back!

Banks will not refund people simply because someone steals their card and uses it. (At least not where I work) I work at US Bank and when something like this happens we have to file a fraud claim and do our investigation work to get the refund from the merchant that the charge was made at. We try and help get the money back for the person but we would never just give them the money. This seems to be a common misconception among people.

Whenever I had anything stolen or people used my card after it had been lost I called my bank and they'd cancel the card, issue me a new one and refund me the money. They'd deal with all of the legalities of someone stealing our money. I live in California if that makes a difference.
