That is the best advice that I got today. I used Illustrator for a long time, and now Inkscape seemingly is a good choice for Videoscribe. Thank you a lot! Subscribed surely for your channel.
Thanks a lot Mark for this. You're a good man. I was using the trace path feature and didn't get good results because it draws it out as two lines and then fills out the space in between. For videoscribers who can draw I'll recommmend you use the iDraw app on your iPad. It gives you perfect strokes same way you did draw it out and the colour fills are perfect. Simply draw and export as SVG,then use that in your videoscribe.
Thank you, I actually use Inkscape on a Windows Surface Pro. As it is touch screen you get the same results if you are OK with free hand drawing. In fact Inkscape on any touch scree will work
Hi Michael, when I did this video, it was really quick and I did not explain a lot of things. The stroke width is set on the stroke styls tab. So Menu -> Object -> Fill and stroke -> stroke style. Stroke must be selected to change. When usien layers select Menu->layers->layers. In the layers box, click the eye to turn layer on and off. Hope that helps. My email is in the description box if you want to talk directly on this.
Mark, thanks so much for this tutorial, it's great! I have been using VS for the last six months, but never attempted to make my own SVG files. I am about to sign up for the VS 14 month special deal, and now inspired to create my own SVG's.
It can be a solution but I found two things an issue. One - when it creates the trace it actually creates an internal and external border to the lines. So there are two strokes, not one. the other was that the picture needs to have pretty well defined borders to get a reasonable result. I found the paint bucket a better solution.
You are the MAN and I thank you for your trouble. Today, when outlining a drawing in InkScape for Sparkol to trace, when I double click it to create the line, it fills in the area (diagonal) area in black. I believe I have "Fill" set to X but something is askew. What am I doing wrong.
Hey Mark - very nice video and great help. I have one problem though (also sent to you by email). When imported into Sparkol the drawing takes too long to complete and it seems like the program is drawing the handles after having drawn the object itself. Any idea how to avoid that?
sir i was very worried until i see your video to make an svg file coz inkscape is free i was about to purchase adobe illustrator but inkscape helped after seeing your video, sir but how did you get the line drawing of the bear in first place as i am new to this concept of sparkol and graphics.basically i am a dentist in india pls post more videos for beginners like me in sparkol using inkscape where can i know all the details about inskcape tools?
Mark thank you for your tutorials on inkscape/videoscribe, much appreciated. However I am struggling to replicate what you have done. My controls and defaults are slightly different as I'm using a mac version of inkscape. I have some questions. How do you manage to get such a thick stroke with the bezier tool, I don't seem to be able to manage that? I'm struggling with the layers and switching them off. When you export the half drawn bear how did you manage to get the whole bear to export?
hey mark great tutorial! i done it the same way as you did but when i dubble click i get a white border/field/section wich is covering the original layer. the problem is that i can't see the rest of that part of the image. do you know how i get rid of that problem?
Hi Michael, note my personal email is in the description box to this video. For this to happen the fill must be turned on. As before double click on the icon for the tool to see its properties. If the fill is turned on, then there will be two coloured areas. One for the stroke (with size) and one for the fill. Draw a line with the tool. Set its stroke size and fill properties using the menu ->object->fill and stroke. When happy, make sure the line is selected and now set the tools properties to the same as the line by clicking the bar under the area where the stroke and fill are. I will make a video and post it shortly to this channel
Being new to Inkscape, your videos have been VERY helpful but I have a problem. I had the PX WIDTH set at 19.000 to work on you PAINTBRUSH technique. Then when I tried your BEAR technique, I set the PX WIDTH at 2.000. But when I double click at the end of a Beizer Line, it defaults back you 19.000 and I have to change it to 2.000 each time and ENTER to bring to width back to 2.000. This is maddening and doubles the time to do a large line drawing. Any ideas?.
Double click on the briezier tool icon to highlight the properties box (see my example on using paint bucket) You will now see the properties for fill and stroke. Draw a line with the tool anywhere then select it and change the stroke to the size you want. When selected click the bar under in the properties box to use the select strokes properties. This will no be the default for the stroke until you change it again.. Hope that made sense.

If I just draw a simple line in inkscape, in VideoScribe it draws it with terrible FPS making the animation very rough. Can't fix this. I just wanted to create an arrow.
+Michael Richards If you like you can Email me at my email in the description. Attach the svg you created in inskape and I will see what happens for me
I notice that in case I change the shape of the pencil (into ellipse for example) the whole sketching in videoscribe goes bad... do you have a solution for that?
SF8008 I am not sure what you mean. Video scribe follows the outline stroke. Some tools create an outline of the stroke with a fill in it. If highlight the ellipse and check to see if it has a fill when you create a something like a simple object then turn fill off. This might help with your query.
Mark Pearson by 'ellipse' I meant the pencil's shape (by default it's set to 'none'. I was just wondering if there's a way to make these cool pencil-shape-lines (such as 'ellipse' etc) to be recognized by videoscribe as regular lines and be drawn the same way... hope that's not to vague.
SF8008 Yes there is. You can actually use the circle tool to create an ellipse. When you create, simply change the border stroke to the size you want, turn off fill and you have your solution. Save the svg, place in video scribe and watch it get drawn
Mark Pearson thanks for the video, but i have seen videos where color full images are drawn like normal svg , i mean how to we get that ! suppose to draw a bottle (color full ) like the one bear in the video
Yu can do that, but this is all about improving the quality of the draw by the hand. The import function does not control the beginning and end, does not get perfect lines etc
Not really, can you do a screen capture and send it to me. My email is mark.pearson at onestopsolutions dotcom dotau Comments can't contain links, so I improvised
+Anil Bose I guess I di this to help people and maybe pay it forward for all those that helped me at different times in my life. It is a shame that you need to make this a negative. I see life is about making a difference.
anyone will take it personally if you phrase it like that You could have said " you need to improve audio" also according to me the audio WASNT TERRIBLE! I WAS TOTALLY FINE WITH IT.

Thanks a ton. Every time I open the file in sparkol there is a big black square in it. Any ideas?
This is very helpful! What a great tool.
Thank you so much for the video Mark.Excellent. :)
Of course, I'm talking about the Brezier Tool. Thank you.

It is very helpful. Thank you very much

Hi Mr Mark, mi line are too thin, how can i make them like in your video?
Thanks a lot Sir, much appreciated :)
really helpful thank you
