Bronco Swaybar: Disconnect or DELETE?

  • Steffie and Dusty take a closer look at the sway bar on our 2-Door Base Bronco, and whether to install a sway bar disconnect or simply delete the sway bar altogether, in that quest to gain just a tad more flex off-road. If you've seen any of our off-roading videos, you know "Chanel" has no lockers, making the Bronco's notorious tendency to lift a tire even more of a hindrance off-road than for Sasquatch or locker-equipped Broncos.
    The TL/DW for those who don't have the time for all of our silliness is that we decided simply deleting the sway bar altogether is the best solution for us. The off-road performance is significantly improved while additional on-road body sway is almost negligible. Keep in mind though, all Broncos are different, and ours is probably a better candidate than most for deleting the sway bar. It's only a 2-door, and we keep it light without a lot of extra gear. Broncos with rooftop tents, heavier bumpers, more gear and higher centers of gravity might not fare as well.
    DISCLAIMER: We are just a couple of silly old Bronco fanatics. We are not lawyers, law enforcement officers (even though one of us plays one on UA-cam), professional mechanics or insurance adjusters. So take none of the content in this video as a recommendation for what you should do with your own Bronco. It is intended for entertainment purposes only. Do you own research and make your own decisions.

    I finally got around to removing my sway bar and I love having the front suspension be more independent! I'd done it on my RAM 1500 before and loved it then. Great video guys! 👍

      Quick update. While driving at highway speeds yesterday, my Bronco became dangerously unstable and I decided that the engineers knew that it should have a sway bar installed after all! LoL Going to put it back on today!@@HorsinAround

    I must live right next to y’all, I know exactly where the first hill was filmed. Would love to wheel with y’all. I’ve got a 2dr Basequatch manual in velocity blue.

      The sway bar has been gone for 4 or 5 months now, with no regrets and no going back. Lots of off-road, on-road, loaded heavy or light, even towing our small trailer.

    Where did you get the disconnects that you were going to put on? I'm not sure I would want to do a delete

    Looks like you've put quite a lot of money into that thing already! Lockers should be next, and probably should have been one of the earlier mods since you do seem to offroad the thing.

      Lockers are a bigger can of worms that we haven't felt the need to open yet. Relatively easy and cheap mods like this can make the difference for most wheeling, for us and lots of people who bought a Bronco without them.

      Forget adding lockers. it would be better off investing in axles, less hassle, and cheaper labor.

    It was nice meeting you folks at KOH. Thanks for the
    content. Are you still happy with the disconnect ?

      If you mean our complete removal of the sway bar, yes indeed we are still happy with it! In fact we've been on several more long road trips with it, even towing a small trailer, and are not missing the sway bar at all. And of course off-road it's much better without it. The caveats we mentioned in the video still apply (that it's been a net positive for our use case but we won't blanket-recommend it for everyone).

    Can you delete the rear sway bar?

    • @HorsinAround
      @HorsinAround  8 місяців тому +1

      Our Bronco didn't come with one, nor did any 2021 Broncos of any trim level. They started adding them to 2022's. You can of course remove it, drive it around for a while and see if you like it, if it feels safe, etc., then decide to either leave it off or put it back on. Every Bronco and use case is different.

    Does it effect highway driving?

    • @HorsinAround
      @HorsinAround  9 місяців тому

      A little bit but it's almost negligible on this Bronco since we keep it light.

    That won’t void your warranty dealer has to prove that whatever was done caused an issue and if anything the only part of the warranty that can be considered voided would be your suspension only because of the shocks aren’t stock.

    • @HorsinAround
      @HorsinAround  Рік тому +3

      The dealer can do or not do whatever they want, then force you to fight for it regardless of who is right or wrong. Like we said in the video, it can still come down to choosing the right dealer. But the real point of that part of the video was to stop worrying about it and just do whatever you want to YOUR vehicle to get it to perform the way you want it to. And to pre-empt what the know-it-alls on the Internet are going to say or post in the comments :)
