Good for you guys for hanging in there and doing what you strongly believe in! Your raising your family to learn so many wonderful things that many family's will never learn. I'm sorry someone doesn't see the value in that... priceless. Thanks for the update. Life is for sure a journey.
I'm really enjoying following along on your journey. Kudos to you and your family for making this work for you. Thanks for sharing your hard won, battle and time tested inventory of lessons. Best wishes, and let the adventure continue!
Enjoyed this guys. You two remind me of me and my wife; well-intentioned but sometimes in different “books”, but we talk it out and we’re still in the same bed too. 😅
As we have discussed elsewhere your lessons are right on and accurate. I love the channel. We repaired an old 1890's farmhouse with extensive termite damage right during Cov*d. Contractors were hard to find and not great quality but still expensive. We ended up doing much more work on the house than we ever imagined, and developed skills we love having now. And my wife and I love working together. Did we make mistakes ....too many to count ...but just laugh and fix it. A sense of humor is key...and a robust budget to remove some stress. The house is dry and conditioned space (on grid) and we have moved in with still dozens of tasks to complete . The sense of accomplishment is high and people are impressed by the end result.
I recommend putting your siding on strapping ( we typically use pre primed clapboards for this) this gives the insects in your ecosystem a place to live outside. Oh and I always sheath my ICF homes inside and out. You will see why I say this.
Good to see Rosa made it through thus far. Looking at the wall behind you reminds me of Giaco's house throughout high school. I don't know if you ever saw it, but it was a work in progress for the 4 years I was in high school.
Just found your channel and, I have to say, you’re bang on. We live off-grid and are going through many of the challenges you mentioned except the contractor part because, well, my husband IS the contractor. 😂 I’m looking forward to taking a peek at the rest of your videos.
Thank you for that tid bit of info on colorado! We just bought 35 acres of Colorado mountain top! No covenants and no HOAs! Now it's trying to sell our 20 acres in east texas so we can get lol. I have enjoyed watching you guys on your journey!
The algorithms award text as attention credits so i will wax a bit... We moved into a surplus 16 x 32 military hospital tent on our place in 1991. Half mile to the nearest maintained road, but this site has south slope ( @44.44 degrees latitude), and gravity feed water., so this is where I put the house. After 8 years of walking we put in a road, I buried a landline 3000 feet, which works here where cell phones do not. A well built septic systems is an important part of how a home cares for its people. Here i am still on solar power, and a nice little Cummins V-twin national park certified propane generator. My burgeoning citrus forest , limes and lemons in flower and fruit, all from seed started on the kitchen window sill, are looking forward to getting into a wallapini, good thing I came around to ten foot ceilings after the various remodels collected under one roof.
I could’ve learned a lot from you. in 1991 I also was in a military hospital tent, but it wasn’t surplus. anyway, I hope you’ve seen our wallipini video.
@@ADifferentWay that is how I came to your channel. The tools acquired to build my home got bored and have been finding work for 30 years. Feel free to ask me anything no promises , but I have run across a lot over the decades.
@@ADifferentWay on finances: Your range needs to have a better view than the cook, a strong backsplash, and counter both sides. Also the southeast of the property deserves extra attention.
Loved how you touched on the marriage aspect. You guys are great.
Wishing all the best and praying for your entire family and future as you continue on in your life's journey!!!

A sense of humor is definitely key, and we forgot to mention that! Thanks!

Nice work folks!
Thanks for sharing!
I also had to do all my own electrical.
Electricians out here do not touch off grid long before EWE tube eweniversity.

All that will happen. It will just take some time, since we are racing winter right now and have some other priorities.
