I just received my core controller from amazon today. Opened the box and gave it a feel. Left thumb stick was same as yours except mine was stuck to the bottom right, about 135 degree location. I tried to work it free by moving it, but after moving it around for 5 min and clicking the LS while doing so it still had a lot of resistance. I pressed on the left and right sides of the controller, pretty much where hands normally go to, open the shell slightly and eventually it started moving free. I was hyped it finally felt good, so I went to work. On the way home I was just thinking of getting on and gaming with this new controller. I open a game and started pressing all my buttons to check everything...........the Y button works like 65% of the time. Used gamepad tester and, sure enough, Y was flaky at best. Return to Center was also a little high on the thumbsticks for a brand new controller. I wish they would just go back to selling first series Elite controllers again. I could replace the bumpers in 5 min and be on the move again. Unfortunately the main board has some sort of feedback loop on it causing a hum every time audio comes thru. The thing has no grips and looks like it was thru hell but it still performed. Bought a series 2 and after a few months my left stick started bugging out. When i press down and then up i would move in slow motion for 3-5 seconds until it registered max input, and costed me my life many times in Verdansk. I had the warranty so i went and exchanged it when stock became available. Played for a few minutes and then the left stick bug happened again. I knew I picked up the last series 2 they had so I just decided to troubleshoot it using reddit and youtube. If the thumbstick was removed the left thumbstick sticking didnt happen. So i removed the inner ring of shiny plastic from controller face that rims the base of thumbstick and sanded down the grooves essentially just making the hole bigger and had no more issues. Then the usb c broke 2 days ago and I botched the soldering with the tiny pins. That leads me to present day where i am sitting here with this piece of garbage. I think at this point my best bet is to just get a new board for the series 1. I thought this would have been a good option since I have a stack of "Accessories" already. I am here to tell you I was wrong. I would stay away from this initial production of this controller. I do like the new look but im going back to the all black.

I was on my 8th replacement on original series 2.
I had the EXACT same problem with the last controller they sent me. The stick was really hard to use. Tried cleaning it and cycling it to make it smooth again. Only made it worse. To the point where it would stick the corner like yours.
MS is refunding me $179 now. Apparently if you’ve had 3 replacements in 90 days they are supposed to refund you. Sent it back waiting for refund.

From what I'm understanding, ALL Xbox Elite Series 2 (and Series 1, as far as I know) controllers are defective. All of them. I just got two for Christmas (one is the white 'core' model, while the other is the original black model). Right out of the box I noticed a frustrating issue in which the 'L3' button does not click when the stick is in certain positions. The same applies for the 'R3' button. This essentially makes certain games a completely gimped experience, if not absolutely unplayable.
I also tried adjusting the sensitivity of my left stick with the little tuning tool and I discovered that on my black Elite model, it doesn't matter how much I adjust the little screw - it won't change anything - the sensitivity is always stuck on being as stiff as possible. So that's yet another issue, right out of the box. The right stick however, *does* allow me to adjust the sensitivity. As does both sticks on my white controller. At least *so far* they do.
As for other major recurring issues that many people have been having in regards to stick drift, sticky buttons, broken triggers, etc., I haven't (yet) had any issues that I've recognized at least. But I know it is only an inevitability that these issues will eventually (and quickly) come to affect me too (on top of the other issues I'm already dealing with).
It really sucks to know that two people spent over $130 - $180 each on me and both items are completely defective. I am so incredibly upset that, to be quite honest, it is borderline rage. I only recently decided to get back into "gaming", after being out of the loop since the end of the PS360 era. I've owned a Switch for several years now and recently found and bought myself a PS5 and a Series X. I've always detested the Xbox's garbage excuse for a 'D-Pad' throughout the years and mainly wanted to be able to just have a regular old cross-pad. I could have bought it myself, but my friends/family wanted desperately to buy me something for Christmas, so I held off, assuming they would buy it for me, which they did. I got two of them. And BOTH of them are defective. So I hop online to see what my issue is and lo and behold, EVERYONE is having the same problems I'm having (and then some).
And these controllers have been on the market for like, four years now at least? And Micro$oft hasn't bothered to address these issues? This is like "Red Ring of Death" all over again. But at least Microsoft sorta addressed the RRoD by releasing newer versions of the console that didn't overheat. But when it comes to these so-called "Elite" controllers, they made them defective from the start, and then made two new revisions that have all the same issues AND EVEN MORE. Will the "Series 3" Elite controllers be even worse than these? Would be hard to top, but I wouldn't put it past them. Will also likely cost $230.
It's pathetic. It sucks when Nintendo does it too, with their garbage control sticks drifting all the time. But Microsoft's "Elite" controller's are somehow even worse. These controllers cost nearly as much as a freaking console. And ALL of them are defective? And they've had YEARS to address this, but they don't?
I do realize that they extended the warranty to 1 Year instead of 3 months. That's great and all, but the fact is, I can send in my controllers to be fixed, and they'll probably send me another 'refurbished' controllers - which will have the exact same problems, and probably more. I got mine on release day and fortunately it's fine but microsoft are having trouble adding microsoft complete to my controller and so I'm hoping they get to the bottom of it b4 the 45 day period 🤞🏻
I do also have a black elite 2 which lasted about 2 years b4 the left bumper went so was out of warranty ( This was b4 I knew microsoft complete existed for controllers 😫)
I also have the halo elite controller (with microsoft complete) and I have used it most days from release and I must say that this also has started to wear on the left bumper so I will be actioning a warranty repair.
I do think that the outer build quality is feels very premium but if my current core fails me then I think I'd swerve any future microsoft "premium" controllers and give the other competitors a crack at the whip.
I'm pretty new to the channel but I think your videos are full of quality and very thoroughly executed so well done 👍🏻

Received mine yesterday and played for a few runs in Outriders, was working fine. It's a replacement to my unfortunately already non working Elite 2, so I have the extra accessories anyway :) Though, sticks felt a bit stiff. Also for a moment there I setup my stick buttons to the paddles at first for some reason it didn't work, probably didn't set them up correctly, set them up right the next time. Hope it lasts.
Say, do you know any good idea to cover the gamepad so the grips don't get out cause that's a big problem, and I think I know the reason it happens (Unfortunately where I live it's above 30c for more than half a year + heat from PC)

I'm tired of buying, sending in for warranty repair, and repeated failure of the joysticks. I have six elite 2 controllers, including the Halo Elite 2. All have joysticks that lock up, even after warranty repair. Within a few weeks, every controller would be unusable again. I even sent in my Halo Elite 2 for warranty repair with a note stating that if they could not fix it, just send it back and not replace it with a non Halo version. They kinda repaired the joysticks, but they started locking up in a matter of days. Now that controller is just a display piece. I'm so tired of this!!

I've had the Elite v1 just like you did and it was my favorite controller, got me to buy a v2 on day 1. And the v2 has been nothing but disappointment. I've exchanged 10-12 total, with most being shortly after launch, thinking there would be one out there that did not have issues. And it appears there just is no v2 that does not have the issue where non-centered face button presses do not have incredibly poor button registration rate.
As someone that plays games where you sometimes hit buttons not entirely centered, or 2 face buttons at once, I just found this unbelievably poor design. I've taken controllers of multiple generations and platforms through the same input test (even the 360 controller), and none of them ever had issues with this. Even the v1 handled it just fine.
I honestly hate how they brought out the v2 and it still has not fixed this problem. And then they come out claiming it has improved QC, it clearly did not. And all of this does not even get into the many other issues these controllers have yet. Such as sticky face buttons, drifting, poor triggers, and who knows what other issues I don't even know about.
For the price they sell these at, this is absolutely unacceptable to me. If they don't fix all of this shit for a v3 then I hope they just don't bother releasing one.

And here I thought I was the only person buying 9+ of the Series 2 to find "The One".
Went through 9 (buying my 10th right now) and 8/9 had the same problem. Double clicking RB. The 9th? Double clicking LB.
My old (and dusty) Series 1 has NOT A SINGLE issue.
I have no hopes for the v3 to be honest. Seeing the v2 going through multiple internal revisions, MS even acknowledging manufacturing issues at some point, and still no improvement.
The problem is though: The Elite Series is (to my knowledge) the only (truly) fully configurable (ABXY to D-Pad, etc.) Gamepad on the market right now.

hey man. late join to the party about your Elite series 2 QC Problem, but i guess as you mentioned an issue on the video about left analog stick being stuck. i guess it's the nature of the analog drats mechanism like you showed to us on previous teardown video, you must rotate from drats on analog stick cover to get off the analog stick caps. that issue my occured bcz during shipping process as an result make that caps of the analog stick comes loose. my best solution is trying to thightening up that analog caps by rotating to clocckwise or the right, instead of you sending back to claiming that issue and get the replacement that can cause you a much time and more hassle

My elite series 2 had left stick drift issue after just 3 months of purchase. As if that wasn't enough, the rubber grip began to come off after 6 months & RB began to get stuck. I used the lcd screen cleaner to get some relief but it wasn't enough. Now at present, nearly a year after the purchase, its entire left controls have jammed with the RT getting stuck when using trigger stops. I got so frustrated & annoyed that I just threw it in a dustbin.

elite controllers seem to have a huge issue with quality control. when I bought my series 2, right of the bat I was having issues with my left stick not clicking forward,a sticky and often unresponsive A button and the left bumper was often unresponsive as well. I saw nearly identical issues when I looked through the reviews on best buy.
if anyone is considering getting an elite controller, I would recommend you stick to a base xbox controller until Microsoft addresses and fixes the issues.

Microsoft replaced 3 of my elites controlers the fourth one is still working ok i have 3 spare cases with all the extras. Does anyone know of a controller that has native Xbox support with good thumb sticks that will last that’s also not the guilikit kingkong pro 2. Cuz I used that with the wingman adapter and updated the firmware on both the controller and dongle, and I still ended up with stickdrift due to what I’m guessing are some weird software issues.

When I first got it, it already had stick drift, but I knew my settings in Fortnite and COD made my old controller drift, but I kept changing my settings and soon figured out it was the controller. So, I’m guessing I had out of the box stick drift and I didn’t mess with the settings in the accessories app or anything before I used it. I still don’t quite get the settings anyway. I really want to figure out how to get rid of the stick drift. My sister was amazing and bought it for my birthday/Christmas since my bday is near Christmas, so this was one big gift for both and she spent a big amount of her paycheck to get this for me. Hey just thought I would throw this in but for some stupid reason and this is for all the elite series 2 controllers the thumbsticks are not hollow but instead have flat metal plate on the underside of the thumbstick that restricts movement because it pushes/scrapes up against the analog stick sensor, I think it is a pretty stupid design and they need to fix it asap, Although I doubt they will.

I've narrowed down my controller selections (thanks to your vidoes) and found that the tension adjustment (or a stiffer tension) and deadzone adjustments (Min/Max) (Xbox Accessories Apps) fits the bill for another need of mines. But QC problems on this controller is definitely not a good thing. Can you recommend a different product that does meet this need so that I'm not forced to give money to Microsoft? At this point, money's not the problem, it's about sending a message.
