This is a video very close to home (This may be a long response, but a good read!). I really enjoyed Kevin Breel's speech as I've been exactly where he has been. Honestly, I don't really like how Tony Robbins tackles depression, because it seems very invasive and given the environment the woman is in, how honest is she going to be? Those tackling depression will often shield any acknowledgement of it from other people as a self-preservation technique. I know I wouldn't have been able to feel authentic with my feelings if I was approached in that manner. Being a show man and trying to aid someone with depression is almost insulting to me. Although his part was short, I loved Stephen Ilardi's portion as I've experienced exactly what he was talking about. Exercise is wonderful for depression as it has a compounding effect on your self-perception. Not only does it provide chemical equilibrium in your brain, but it reinforces how you perceive your body image, which for many people is integrally important. The other points of putting your past behind you, which I think is an important step to take in order to stop referencing past failures and thus preemptively setting yourself up to fail given a lack of self-belief from past experiences. Volunteering provides you moments of thinking about others and removing your introverted thought process which is a huge component of the fabrication of a depressed mind state. Depression is typically not associated with those who have an extroverted personality disposition, so it's about removing yourself out from your own introverted thoughts and place your focus on others. It's a win-win when give it some thought. You're giving your mind a rest from it's internal erosion, and helping other people in the process. Being in service to others is one of of the most uplifting acts you can provide another human being. And finally, Wayne Dyer's point about changing what you think about. On the surface, I do agree with this, however I don't agree that it's advice someone suffering from deep depression can actually properly conceptualize. Being asked to change how you think, when someone is constantly internalizing what they think about themselves negatively, is like asking the sea to turn pink or the earth to turn into chocolate. It just won't happen. It's like someone patting you on the back and saying "Chin up! just think about positive things and you'll feel better". This advice is much more efficient when incorporated at the latter stage of depression treatment. It's about gaining confidence in yourself to make you realize that you are worthy, that you do mean something and that you are liked. I believe that it has to be tackled from numerous angles, that one method alone will not rid you of this mental disease. Your living environment, your job, your fitness, your diet, your social engagement, your spirituality, the effects of EMF, the incorporation of detoxes, plenty of water ingestion, your own goals, wishes and eventual determination all contribute in their own way to allow you to rise above those dark, shadowy clouds to see above the horizon to what awaits you on the other side. If there is one piece of advice I can give, is that you should try and find at least one person that you can trust in to talk about your depression with. Just having someone who will listen and be there for you means more than any drug that can supposedly cure depression. Your body is a natural healing machine when you give it the chance to do its job. The longer the journey you're on to heal, the more satisfying your result will be at the end, so stick with it and never, ever think that you're less than what you think you are. I personally believe that those who go through this are pretty special individuals. You're all about love at your core, because you're so in tune with your emotions that you unfortunately let it over run you. Trying to love yourself is the hardest possible concept for anyone to get their head around, let alone those who suffer from depression. I've been there and it's really, really hard to fathom that as a possibility. Taking the necessary steps to begin the process of healing will allow you to see how you can love yourself, and when that day comes you'll be so proud of yourself for having the patience and determination to see it all through. I'm sorry about the post's length, but I hope at least one person gets to read it and takes something from it. Thank you for reading. #BTA76
+Sam rock Well, what do you expect from someone like wayner dyer, his advice is one of the worst, and most offensive that i have ever heard, not a single depressed person wants to hear the "just change the way you think"
+Sam rock This is a long response.. No. I agree we all need to talk to someone about our depressions, and that person has to be someone that we trust. Cheers, #Believe. #BTA57 Nina
Observing our thoughts and our body (the painbody) is essential. When we are observing we are in the now. The thoughts and the painbody want to be in the centre and tries to force it's way back, but just observe. After a while you will start noticing when you are stuck in thinking and stuck in the pain body emotion, and when you get that fare there is a light in the tunnel. Just observe. It's one of my top ten advice taken from own experience.
I agree with you Evolution vs Reality. See my comment above. What happens to the thinking when the mind is quiet and vital? What happens to the painbody when the body is "fresh and clean"? What happens to the depression and the fear and the anxiety when the mind is quiet and vital and when the body is "fresh and clean"?
Thanks for creating this video. I was completely with Kevin Breel. He's a great speaker and he said things I have trouble finding the words for. I was mostly with Anthony Robbins as well, but I couldn't get to that peak. I couldn't think of, picture or imagine anything. What I definitely need to do is exercise. There are a billion reasons to do it, but I really need to start doing it. As a matter of fact. I'm gonna put down my phone and get moving right now.
+Zeno Nieuwenhuis Go Zeno!! It's true what they say...no one wants to start...but once you get going you feel so much better! My knees will hurt before I go to dance class and I'll drag my feet...but the minute I start to move - so wonderful! Good Luck to you - go do it!!
Thanks +j spain Greene. I did work out a bit, got my heartbeat raising, my muscles going sore and it felt good afterwards 😀. Now I gotta do it more often.
Had a really rough morning today, and thankfully this was on my home page. I felt like complete sh and still do not feel 100%. But I love the first clip. We're human, it's ok to not be ok.
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough morning Moet but yes, it's ok to not be ok, as they say, it shall come to pass. :) I hope you are having a great day today. Always #Believe! Much love. #BelieveNation #BTA314 Shine
As an entrepreneur you will come across this beast of depression why do I call it a beast cause it comes at you slow or fast you really just dont know. What you do is dont allow the beast to enter your life keep moving and dont look back. Take your pass and whats bothering you and make it a part of your pass.. Every day when you wake up is a new start so start new with ideas and live your life..
"As a plumber, you will come across the beast of hepatitis..."? Gardeners and skin cancer, there I see the relation, exposed to sunlight. But... what? And "Don't Allow The Beast To Enter" is supposed to mean what? If you get sick, it is your own fault, because you didn't fight it?
sooo great ! your the best doctor for this thing .. hi sir evan :) u still remember me ? i was soo busy recently because i took your advices and try it first hand so i had to get myself busy in order to cope with it :) because obviously i dont want to get depressed about it .. and now im soo empowered because i gained back my self-worth and confidence .. specially im more socialized now .. i mean .. i go out often, and ABLE to talk with great people without shaking or feeling numb :D hehehe .. im so lucky to have your advice personaly i realy appreciate it soo much .. i BELIEVE in u soo here i am with my own successful printing business .. thanks for touching my life in a very simple yet incredible way .. i wish you all the luck , godbless bro 👍👍👌👌
Seconding Jim Carrey's comment about supplements with regards to 5htp and tryptophan. Those two really helped me along with fish oil specifically high epa content.
What surprise? Today the Earliest Bird caught the Depression. Actually, depression is a complete alien concept to me. I live through life with plenty of pain (and optimism), from running marathon, from studying 16 hours a day, from snowboarding, and now from writing a book every 45 days... My pain today is getting up at 5 am and having to write until 7 pm. Try run 6 miles or a marathon; and you quickly substitute any feeling with pain and exhaustion, then fall asleep within 2 minutes. The next day, still wake up with pain but happier feeling ... do not use alcohol, drug, gambling, laziness -- all will lead to depression. Exercise is best medicine, beats pills by 100 miles. Thanks. #BTA1
if you think the stigma on depression, well, than try it with eating disorder! People don't know anything about ED and the most awful part of it is that they blame you for not eating and are angry w you while not realizing that you suffer.
+luticia If people are getting angry with you than they either have a closed mind or they really care about you and just don't have an answer or appropriate response to give. Some people like Tony Robbins understand that you should never just judge, but learn to identify and understand. Not all people get that. I do my best to never look down on anyone with a challenge(who am I to do so...we all have personal battles) and give them the respect they deserve.
Great topic to bring up!!! Adding this to one of the videos I'll share with others. I do remember seeing that first talk some time ago and feeling on the fence about it. Don't get me wrong, he is right that we shouldn't look down on people who are depressed . I've been depressed before as well before so who am I to do so. Something about it doesn't sit right with me though, and maybe its because I'm more hopeful than not that depression can be overcome easier than a severe illness. Not because it isn't severe (depression is as much of a killer as anything else), but because our mind is a powerful thing. I agree with all of the how's completely and if these are shared with those that suffer from depression, some lives could be saved! #BTA53
***** Excellent point. I recently had a family member commit suicide. Reminded me why I do what I do and why I want to reach as many people as possible, talk to as many folks as possible, and have a resource that is available all year round, so that people can have real conversations around their experiences and lives (24/7 - 365) Campaigns and themed months are great but like most things, depression can happy any in any season.
People don't put themselves in a clinical depression; they already have the hardwire that predisposes them to feel a certain way. Tony Robbins talks about how an alkaline diet will heal just about any illness. He gives examples about how hes healed people doctors couldn't. I appreciate the upload. This just isn't accurate.
+No, No, No 1) this video doesn't talk about clinical depression 2) tony doesn't talk about diet in this video 3) if you have other solutions then feel free to share - coming on and being a hater doesn't help anybody. #BTA70
