My childhood idol as a young competitive skier. The doping case wont take away his accomplishments, everyone used EPO or blood doping in 90's top level skiing. Someone set up a trap to finnish skiers at lahti so they were busted. RIP Mika, you wont be forgotten
He seemed like a good guy. Whatever happened with the doping scandal, happened. I am sure Finland wasn't the only nation guilty of doping in those days, but they were the ones caught and had to pay the price.
I know your comment is old but gotta say this. Finnish media killed him. In none other country does a doping scandal last over 10 years. youre supposed to wipe it off and start fresh. Mika was in every magazine no privacy and he started to drink. never got his life back on track :( sad story of a broken champion
He was crucified by media. I believe he hated to do something so immoral to himself and to th3 sport that he loved. No matter everyone did it at the time, if not as we speak in some form. He was driven to win. Obsessed maybe. It's a tragedy that he paid it wwith his life. That's how much he suffered not to be an honest man as he was expected to be in the eyes of a nation on a world. And me, myself, remember now being one to judge him at the time. Didn't know what the world is and how it works, what it takes. Whatever you think about him, he still had the sisu more than anyone. Rest in peace brother at last
Legend mika. epo was found in 89 in bicycling, and it didint Show up in tests. every one doped and it was said that no Major individual endurance or explosive sport effort was done without epo on 1990s, not a single one. It was said that Finland was trapped, only one not knowing new wada test Will find substances used in 2001.That resulting in Media hate costed mikas Life but Im proud of what he Did. Mikä Myllylä is a true Champion that won fair, he competed against athetes that were training with same nutrition.
Everybody was doping. Norwegians, Swedes, and Finns. There was no other way to compete, let alone win. Who won trained the hardest, and was best, in competition. Sadly, there was a conspiracy against the superb champion, Myllyla, who everyone knew was best, and so, the Finns were especially targeted and, therefore, got caught. Sad for Mika Myllyla, who was exemplary. He was best, and king, at the time, even over Norwegian, Bjorn Daehlie, and so had to be dethroned. It was an assassination. And he was a broken man because of it. Finns did not rally behind him, but excoriated him. They murdered him, essentially. So sad fate for such a good and honest man. He trained harder than anyone. How you train, you win.
It really doesn't matter if he was doped, and of course he was. Norwegens were also so the best guy won. Look at norwegens in sochi, they have ruled the worldcup but now they are minutes behind others :D , womens relay and mens relay. Reason is quite obvious
I don't care if Myllyla was doping. All the top guys were doping at the time. The Norwegians are the most self-righteous hypocrites in this sport. They point fingers at others, even though they have used, among other things, asthma medicine on healthy athletes for years. Same thing now with the Russians. Why should someone like Legkov lose his medals from Sochi? If he loses his 50km medal, then Sundby will get a medal. Yes, Sundby, the most blatant doper on the world cup. What a joke.
davd1986 You are right. There has been rumour in Finland that Sami Repo would have been clean skier. It might be true and maybe there has been few more clean athletes in other countries but surely most of them were doped.
It's impressive to see what clean skiers like Bjørn Dæhlie and Per Elofsson managed to do against these drugged out losers like Myllylä, Mühlegg, Isometsä and so on. Elofsson even got his career destroyed trying to follow Mühlegg. The only joke here is you who doesn't even know the difference between taking legal medicaments and performance enhancing drugs ;)
Miksi urheilijat saavat sankarin sädekehää, vaikka huippu-urhelussa dopingin käyttö on selvää? Miksi kilpailukiellot ja toimitsijakiellot eivät ole pysyvästi elinkautisia? Miksi katsoa doupattua huippu-urheilua?
RIP Mika. One of the greatest skiiers. I really miss you. Greetings from Sweden
Myllylä is one of our heroes.
Everyone was boosted these days, so Mika the greatest.

He had such a good heart, but he was too lonely after his career... My childhood hero still and ever.
2 legendaa: Mika Myllylä ja Tapio Suominen. Levätkää rauhassa. Teitä ei unohdeta.

@@TheRedSphinx WTF are you talking about? He did not get caught in Ramsau -99, so he won clean and square.
Rest in peace, Mika🙏

Says the guy without any sort of evidence what so ever of his claims hehehe
