Since filming this video my photos have been circulated around some of Victoria's most well respected ecologists and biologists. Without being able to handle them and properly observe them, the general feeling is that these are young Spiny Murray crayfish. Euastacus Armatus. There are quite a lot of other spiny crayfish that look almost identical and I was sure that these were one of those other species. From the ARI website. ari.vic.gov.au: "There are currently 38 described species of native freshwater crayfish known in Victoria" I wonder how many undescribed, or undiscovered species there still are out there?
The ones in the Otways around Gellibrand are a red/brown colour with white claws. The ones over Hamilton way are blue/green and white and get quite big.
Really enjoyed that video, got your mystery cray and at some point you can always get a live one for the actual ID. Jagged some really cool underwater footage too, it'd be great to tell you what type of cray that is but I'm a 1000+km away and they're all different critters. That was a heck of a blackfish too, he'd be an old man of that creek
Thanks mate, best Blackfish I've caught. I would need to get a permit to collect a love specimen for research. All other spiny crayfish apart from Murray Cray's and Glenelg Cray's have a 9cm minimum carapace length. I can't imagine there would be too many crayfish that big in this creek.
Different looking crayfish? Great video. A friend a biologist did this during a friend's wake at Hencamp creek North Queensland and filmed jungle perch turtle and small crayfish. Thanks for the video

Fishing regulations are so out of whack, in Qld if we catch a tilapia we can kill it and bin it or whatever but not allowed to take it home and eat it 😂
Haha WOW that's just crazy. Some rules make absolutely no sense to me. LOL
They not stupid as people think soon as he got that head he was gone lol cracked me up I spent like 6 hrs trying to catch this monster marron oneday wayne 0 marron 1 lol
Hahaha that cracked me up too. As soon as he got the meat free he left the net. LOL 😅😅
David Attenborough move over
Hahaha
As soon as I see "includes paid promotion" I add the channel to "DO NOT RECOMMEND CHANNEL"
WOW What a negative comment. FYI, the only paid promotion in this video is the worms. They were given to me to use by my sponsor. That's all. Nothing more.
But if that offends you, then that's really sad. Along my journey as a UA-camr I have learnt just how easy it is to offend some people. You're not the first and won't be the last.
Hello Robbie. Thank you for the video/videos. Hey you. Subscribe. 😎
