Esses vídeos mais antigos da SAJB são verdadeiras preciosidades. Não me lembro de ter tido um conhecimento tão completo da história de uma banda. Obrigado, Joan Chamorro.
I really like the sax section sound, - it's really warm. Quite old school. Controlled and subtle use of things like vibrato, bends and articulation. The core sound is just right.
What we have here is basically a high school band with three precocious youngsters and one ringer. (It took a while to find a younger trombone player.) Have you listened to your high school band lately? Seventeen musicians here, of which I know more than half are professionals ten years later -- and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more; I'm a long way away. AND, this is still mainly the "local group." There is a certain, real and wonderful absurdity in the success of this organization. These kids and most of their immediate successors have moved on, and the band is still strong. I did read an article recently about research showing bilingual children "demonstrate high levels of cognitive flexibility." Maybe the Barcelonans do have a leg up on others. Still, we have to wonder what the last ten years would have sounded like had Senyor Chamorro been assigned to the music school in another district. The ten months since I stumbled across Andrea playing "Petit Fleur" with Joan and Josep have recharged my creative juices -- and I thought I Was Doing All Right. Feliç any nou i èxit continuat.
That could be the Basie band of yesteryear. The sound is great, the tempo perfect. And its played by a great group of young musicians. They, and jazz have a great future before them.
Unbelievable especially now in 2022-23 to see them fully adult and moving out on their own. Now, can I please have **Corner Pocket**, Joan, in 2023 with them all back and smokin'!!!
These early videos of SAJB should be declared national treasures!
Echoes of Count Basie. A swinging band. Joan , you and your band of young people are the best.
I left jazz a long time ago. Joan Chamorro, his colleagues and his 'kids' have brought me back in. Thank you for that.

Gracias, Chamorro.
Todos los dias yo escucho, al menos una música com tudo ninos e ninas.

Just wonderful !
Good performance! (And at the right tempo. Often it is played too fast or too slow.)
Do not known this tune. However it swings. the Sant Andreu Jazz Band does another great arrangement. Way to go kids!!
