A sad realization I came to with the father saying she needed to learn her place is that he's accepted he will die if he goes to war and won't be able to protect her anymore. That she will have to follow society's rules because he will no longer be able to protect her.
Also keep in mind that our main villain didn't refer to Mulan as (or be surprised she was) a woman. He just referred to her as "the warrior at the pass." The Huns didn't discriminate against women being warriors.

@@lindapao350 Right. This should be a lesson to anyone and applies in general: You're not always right, the others are not always wrong. It's important to not think in dichotomies and strict black and white / good and evil thinking. Reality is much more complicated and many issues even today often have more than two sides and none of them may be in the right. Values differ among cultures. You don't have to accept or value what others value, but at least try to understand and respect other points of view. Yes, some positions are indefensible, but even the most atrocious terrorist has some values you would actually agree with. Trying to stereotyping the other side usually just fuels the division and grows hatred. Always question your own position and try to defend the values you treasure instead of trying to dehumanizing the enemy in order to make it easier to despise them.

@@lindapao350 less of not being sexist, but more effective. Many 'barbarian' tribe in history usually do not discriminate by genders, like VIking for example, because their mindset is using what they have for more firepower to survive. Conversely a lot of more developed civilization tend to, I won't say discriminate, but they have different roles for each genders as their culture is more developed and thus more structured. Each have their pros and cons.

@@lindapao350 If you are in conquest (external civilization); there is essentially no need to subjugate women. You simply add each town and city as an asset after you force submission. The growth comes thru war!
Civilizations of (internal) growth MUST subjugate women and let me explain why.
If women become educated and free; they will choose to have fewer children. Fewer children inevitably implodes a 'growth' civilization. Even one such as ours. Society cannot support the weight of necessity when there are not enough young people to take their parent's place.
I'm not arguing for the subjugation of women; I'm simply explaining cause and effect.

Huns are a people that came from just East of the Volga in modern day Russia.
Women are trained as fighters in civilizations that focus on external growth; growth thru war.
Internal growth civilizations MUST subjugate women or else their birth rates implode and the society becomes vulnerable to inevitable collapse.

In Ancient China, honor was a big deal. If you and your family were dishonored, you were considered by your peers as less than an insect.
"I'll get that arrow, pretty boy. And I'll do it with my shirt ON." is my favorite quote in this movie.
Also the Huns had female soldiers as well, so Shan Yu saw her as just that, the soldier who took his army down. So she became enemy #1.

Do Raya the Last Dragon it's a great watch. This movie was made during the pandemic. It has a feature on the blu-ray disc. With the matchmaker by saying Mulan's name she gave permission for her to talk. Love the movie.

I thought Mulan was really cool like girlboss! Until i heard their movies were saying Mongolians are bad
(Idk if it's true or not :/)
But i was like Oh hell NO
    idk

Huns aren't the ancsestors of just Monogolians, they're different groups. Huns were Chinese and Turkish too. Nothing in the movie says "mongolians are bad" I actually think the Huns are presented as badass villains.

I really like this channel but I feel like you guys interrupt the movie too often. it’s kinda jarring and it’s just cut together too fast. maybe you could talk while the movie is playing? just some feedback! I enjoy what you’re doing here but bc of that I tend to want to click off. if you guys haven’t you should check out inside out and Raya and the last dragon!

I don’t know if you two have ever seen the live action, but do yourself a favor and never watch it. It’s awful. Beauty and the beast live action and Aladdin were amazing imo

Amazing reaction! If you loved this film, I think you would enjoy the live action version of it. There is a stage adaption for schools to perform, although I hope they will do a full musical adaptation for Broadway. I think you’d also like She’s The Man and Disney’s Princesses of Thieves as they both involve a girl pretending to be a boy.

The editing makes this so difficult to watch. 2 seconds of video, cut to reaction, cut back to 2 seconds of video, cut back to reaction.
