    Hello Dr. I have come to you as the last resource after reading all home assistant forums and try everything for weeks already. there is a very common problem with hass.io installation, the situation is that hass.io either work at the first time with no problem or does not, in which case is very hard to get it working. Usually, the problem goes around connection issues, this is not a problem for hassbian, which i can use with no problem. Currently, there is no clear answer in the forums, a video addressing this issue will be of great help for a lot of people trying to get into home assistant and feeling stuck in the first step

    I would like to see you take on the challenge of creating a "score light" with Home Assistant. Set your team, and when they score, specific lights flash team colors. I've been trying to figure this out for years and the (now defunct) ESPN/IFTTT integration never worked well.

    Can you please start your videos with a brief description of what you are covering (what is "lovelace"?), why you use it (why is "lovelace" better than X?), and then go into the technical details of how to get it up and running?

    Dr Zzz - I can’t seem to get my jpeg images appearing in Lovelace from my binary_sensor (Bayesian sensor) device tracking. I just get a blank (aside from header of ‘who’s home?’) glance card. What’s your config in terms of getting images in your front end for this type of thing. FYI, I keyed in as you have done in this vid as an entity-filter card. Thanks in advance.

    Hi DrZzs
    Awesome video (as usual). Watched it several times.
    Since a lot of different items are covered in 20 mins is it possible to have some sort of bookmarks in the video in order to be able to find specific snippets easily?
    In any case, awesome.
    I have a question about Darksky. I like the forecast card. There is one item missing that I think is relevant. This is the wind direction.
    The website places an arrow next to the wind speed. The card in HA does not.
    Other useful info would be 'Feels like temperature' and 'UV index'
    Is there any way to get these items in the card?
    Thank you.
    P.S. Learned a lot from your videos. Keep 'em coming.

    Great stuff, DrZzs! How do I assign an image to the device trackers (as shown in your entity-filter glance card)? Is this taken from the existing yaml I have for ‘HA version 1’?!? I just have a silhouette for each person in Lovelace and want to personalise it.

      You need to put the images in the config/www folder. If you don't have a www folder, then create one in the config folder. I don't recall the constraints but if I remember right I had to make my images 200x200 pixels. Once you have the images in the www folder, you will need to edit your known_devices.yaml file to reference the image name for the device. Here is a sample of one from mine where I've
      Child1:
      hide_if_away: false
      icon:
      mac: AC:37:43:cc:cc:cc
      name: Child1 phone
      picture: /local/child1.jpg
      track: true
      Hope that helps.

      Chris Edwards - Thanks for the response. I had all of that done. Managed (just now) to sort it. After a couple of weeks of help from various forums someone suggested putting quotes around the state_filter (“on”). This simple thing got it working! Appreciate your response though.

    Blind me, that’s quite a task to organice the desktop! I used HA as a hub for Apple HomeKit, wanted to use home assistant fully, but after looking at this, think I will keep the dirty and messy desktop as stick to Apple Homekit. Then I don’t have that menu option Hass.io.

    • @ericxls93

      Okay... will dig your see how it works. I think that if I get this to work I will ditch HomeKit. Would love to end up with one of these dashboard without so much effort.
      My initial set up, which I did about 3 years ago is still running the version of home assistant that does not have that hassio menu. (On a Synology, Docker). But the Home assistant version I am running seems to be the latest one. Guess more digging...

      Easiest way to do it is to sign up for the Home Assistant Cloud. It's free (for now) but will eventually cost $5/mo. With HA Cloud all you do is go to the Google Skill store and install the Hassio skill. Very similar to the Alexa install (not the media player install the older video from about December).

      there's an example on the Lovelace docs page. Or you can use the migration tool addon for hassio.
      I just started from a blank file. There are only a couple things you need at the start, the rest is all the entities. It does need to be named ui-lovelace.yaml and it needs to by in your /config/ folder.

    Not sure what i'm going wrong here.
    I have the sonoff basic wired like this.
    imgur.com/dT6mdvR
    (key) GPIO14?? set as switch1
    now...regardless of which switchmode action setting I use....the light only turns off or on after flipping the lightswitch twice.
    flip it down then up....light comes on.....then flip it down then up...light goes off
    my intent is that I want the standard light switch to function as it would without the inclusion of a sonoff but then also be able to use the sonoff, H.A./MQTT capabilities.

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 років тому

      Your rocker switch is behaving like a push-button. I would expect switchmode0 to be the best for that situation, but switchmode1 or switchmode2 should also work. The rest are for push-buttons. Regardless, it should be changing behavior when you change switchmodes.
      What are you seeing in the tasmota console when you flip the switch or change the switchmode?

    • @charliefoxtrotsky4104
      @charliefoxtrotsky4104 5 років тому

      @@DrZzs There are two screws on the side of the standard light switch....not the green ground terminal. I have the GPIO wired to one terminal on the side and ground wired to the other terminal on the side....maybe I have that wired incorrectly.
      Here is the output from the terminal.
      23:39:11 CMD: switchmode1 0
      23:39:11 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"SwitchMode1":0}
      23:39:19 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"ON"}
      23:39:19 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = ON
      23:39:22 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"OFF"}
      23:39:22 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = OFF
      23:39:24 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"ON"}
      23:39:24 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = ON
      23:39:26 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"OFF"}
      23:39:26 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = OFF
      23:39:29 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"ON"}
      23:39:29 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = ON
      23:39:31 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/RESULT = {"POWER":"OFF"}
      23:39:31 MQT: stat/sonoff-lamp/POWER = OFF
      I suspect that when the switch is flipped the GPIO notices the state change and thus sends a single...and then when the switch is flipped the other way the GPIO isn't seeing anything so nothing happens....then when I flip it up again, the GPIO notices the state change. So its only turning on or off when the switch is flipped up. Up for on, Up for off.
      Maybe if I wired one GPIO to one of the terminals on the light switch and if there was another GPIO and I wired it to the other terminal.
      This isn't a deal breaker really. I'd like the traditional light switch to work as it would without the inclusion of the sonoff, but I'm not married to it.

      I've tried switchmode1 0; switchmode1 1; switchmode1 2; switchmode1 3; and also moved each of the two wires to the other terminal on the switch. the output stays the same regardless. It may very well be that the traditional light switch is simply not the right type of switch to use in this situation. I loved your video with the capacitive touch switch and I had the sonoff basic to just decided to try to use the traditional light switch since it was already there.

      another bit of information. i'm using the sonoff basic model that has the 5 holes just behind the output terminals on the sonoff. i'm using the hole labeled "key" as the GPIO14 and the GND near it for the ground. I read somewhere that this was the new location for GPIO14 and it is definitely receiving a signal to make this light switch "kinda" work....but a lot of this stuff is assumptions and know from my own knowledge.

    • @DrZzs

      You can change the wake word for Alexa to one of 4 things: Alexa, Echo, Amazon, or Computer. I changed my to Computer in the spirit of Star Trek NG.

    I’ve noticed that in your videos you simply say “Computer...” to do things. How you accomplish this?

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 років тому +1

      In the Alexa app you can change the "Wake Word". There are 4 options. Alexa, Echo, Amazon, or Computer. So far you can't customize the wake word beyond those choices. I like "Computer" cuz it makes me feel like Captain Picard.

      DrZzs that’s what I thought. I use Google Home Mini. So I’m stuck with “Hey Google” or “Ok Google”. Hopefully they offer some other options in the future.

      how do you guys setup voice assistant? should hass machine to be accessible from internet?

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 років тому +1

      Mine is accessible from the internet with an open port of Hassio. I don't remember if that's necessary or not.
      The way I do it is by using the HA Cloud service. It's $5 a month, but makes it super simple. There are forum posts discussing how to do it without HA Cloud of $5/mo is too much for you.
      Here's how I set mine up:
      ua-cam.com/video/DbQcFgEA7hw/v-deo.html
      It's an older video, but I think it still works that way.
      Good Luck!

      Sorry. You're not the only one who feels that way. Turns out it would be easier for me to not do the floating head thing too. So I'm doing it less now than I used to. And I'm doing WAY less jumping around the screen. It's an evolution I guess. I'm learning how to do a better job at making useful content in a way that is best for me and for the folks that might watch.

      @DrZzs  5 років тому +1

      Noted.
      They’d be a lot easier to make without that too. Trouble is now some people expect it and like it. I also think it is often helpful to see the person that is talking when you’re learning something. There’s the non-verbal aspect that communicates more info and it adds some entertainment value. But that doesn’t appeal to everyone for sure.
      I’ll compromise with you. I’ll leave my face out of some scenes and I’ll try to put it in the same place on the screen so you can just put your thumb over my face.
      Deal?
