Once you’ve gritted the machine how many set of blades would you get out per gritting application? Cheers

It depends on how bad the blade is. However, on average I get 6 to 8 blades and cutters per charge.

Nothing against anyone who does blades. But 15-2000 bucks for a machine thats really messy, requires a lot of maintenance and you can only charge $8 or so per blade. I just can't get interested in doing blades. How many blades do groomers usually give you, and how do you learn what you need to know about the clippers themselves? Thanks.

      You are not wrong!
Blades are the biggest pain in the ass and makes the least amount of money for the time it takes on top of being the most messy. That being said adding blades to my business produced the most growth for my business over the last 3 years.
My intention was to not do blades when I added shears to my business in February of 2019. However I was getting tons of calls from dog groomers asking if I did shears and blades. When I said no I didn't do blades they said they needed someone to do both. So I lost the shear sharpening for dog groomers. For every 10 blades I get at least 3 pairs of shears to sharpen. Now I do not do mobile sharpening for dog groomers so they have to bring it to me or I will pick up and deliver within a small geographic area. So over the last 3 years I've done a little over 3000 blades and 300 or more shears from those groomers. So thats's over $30000 and that is growing faster than the salon business. Most of my groomer clients are the mobile groomers so I don't have to travel. These are also small business owners so they like doing business with another small business owner. They are very loyal and the pay cash. It's a great deal overall.
It's not for everyone. If I could just do knives and make enough money I would do that. Knives are easy, fast and make great money. But I can't make enough money on just knives. If I just did salon shears I would spend more time traveling than sharpening. Travel is expensive.
Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions. If you want to talk just give me a call. My number is on my website. Happy to help if I can.
      Thanks for watching!
