“Where’s The Beef?” was actually one of a series of surrealistic ads they had running at the time, showing faults of other fast food places. “Park It!” centered on the fact that after your order, you had to pull over and wait for them to bring out your food. “Through The Mill.” represented fast food restaurants that had frozen patties produced through a mechanical process, and not fresh beef, then another was how other fast food restaurants had food that looked and tasted the same, no matter what you ordered, and was represented by a Russian fashion show where the model came out wearing the same outfit, just carrying a different accessory each time. Plenty others of these, too. Funny stuff.

I just brought home a bunch of Dave's singles, fries and chili for dinner. My mother was very impressed with the great taste and freshness of the lettuce and tomato. The fries weren't too salty either. She said "the chain has really kicked it up a notch. I was a senior in high school (and working at Burger King LOL) when "Where's The Beef?" hit. A bunch of 17-year-old boys working the closing shift at Burger King, listening to Eddie Murphy's first album and hollering "WHERE'S THE BEEF?" were a BK manager's worst nightmare. Good times!
Yes I have dipped my fries in that delicious chocolate Frosty and my husband said that Wendy’s burgers are the juiciest of all and I really love the fact that they are so authentic💜 When I took my daughter there the first time she also said the burgers are very juicy
I remember when Wendy's came to the Houston area. We went to the Pasadena, Texas location. Their patties were thick and the burgers actually looked like their photos. That didn't last very long.
When i was a kid in the 70's, the hamburgers were great but it was the chili that was so good. From my late teens(mid 80's) until now, it's the triple cheesburger(mustard, ketchup, pickles)and a large fry. Sometimes i'll add a spicy chicken sandwich and nuggets.

Wendy's Chili: YUM! "Where's the beef?" is the only slogan I can think of that was politicized. Presidential candidate Walter Mondale threw it in during on of his campaign speeches.
Wendy's Chili is identical to the chili my mom made...I miss her a lot, but when I go to Wendy's, I usually get about 4 large Chili's to take home and freeze. It will keep for about a month, so I can still have a taste of 'mom's cooking' from time to time!
I was 18 and in college in 1980. I was so poor. I used to get a Wendy's single, no fries, no drink...just asked for glass of water...and my high school best friend worked there. She used to talk about how clean they were. And the high quality of food. That meant a lot to me because she was not easily impressed
I'm going to Wendy's tomorrow! I'm 72 now, and remember the first Wendy's to arrive in Vineland, NJ. Always a good burger and still is to this day. Burger Chef was good too, back then.

Wendy's is very nostalgic for me and my favorite fast food restaurant:)!! I think Wendy's should be number 1 and not number 3!! And I so remember as a Child, seeing that Commercial, "Where's the Beef?" and I used to laugh every time:)!! Also, I used to collect stickers as a Child and I have a sticker of Clara Peller asking, "Where's the Beef?" in my sticker album, which I have saved:)!! My Late Dad really LOVED to eat Wendy's chilly and I so enjoyed Wendy's hamburgers, which I think tasted way better than the other fast food restaurants:)!! My Mom, my Brother, my Late Grandparents and I LOVED Wendy's Frosty:)!! Unfortunately I am now lactose intolerant, but it was a nice treat from the past:)!! Also, At the former Wendy's that is no longer in my neighborhood, had Salad Bars into the Late 1990s:)!! My Mom, my Late Dad, and I all LOVED to eat the Salad along with the pasta and garlic bread, all at Wendy's:)!! In addition to this, as a Child, Wendy's Table Tops had the antique Newspapers with antique sales adds from the turn of the Century:)!! As a Child, I so LOVE to read them:)!! And on a visit to Wendy's in 1995, I got a Happy Meal and I still have the Pink Rocking horse Toy that opens up with a Cabbage Patch girl rocking in a tiny rocking horse along with a dial which I can change the setting from day to night:)!!! Thank you so much for this really awesome history on Wendy's:)!! And God Bless Dave Thomas for helping with Adoptions:)!! He sounded like a real kind hearted person:)!!!
I'll never forget my first Wendy's cheeseburger. It was 1978, I was barely 11 and unfortunately my grandfather passed away and we traveled from Virginia to Iowa to attend his funeral. My dad drove us around town, Ames, to get refamiliar where he grew up and we stopped at a Wendy's and had lunch. Best fast-food burger I had at that point, big and juicy. That's back when after the burgers were cooked they put them in a warm bath of water which they long ago stop doing because of sanitation requirements.
I loved the baconator and I still like the original single - Dave Thomas was a great salesman because he believed in his products and he seemed like a wonderful fun guy.
One of my friends was one of the First "Dave's Kids" After Dave Thomas died he left him a store/franchise of his choice, paid for his college, and left him $250,000 dollars. The Thomas family were Great people.
They didn't make it out to the west coast until about the mid seventies where I grew up, but they were a unique alternative to Jack in the Box, McDonald's, etc.! "Hot and juicy" was one of the first ad campaigns I remember and "taking an extra napkin" was part of it!
Dave Thomas was a great guy. I ran into him a few times over the years. He was always willing to chat. When I worked in Columbus, I had to eat at the Broad St #1 at least twice a month. I loved looking at the pictures there.
So glad that you mentioned his charitable works. A truly stand-up guy, Dave told a story of when he was working with Harland Sanders and realized, one day, that he was staring at the 11 herbs and spices recipe. Out of respect, he never told anyone what the magic formula was. Dude made his own money.
Thanks for that memory! We’re they not called hot and juicy at one time and the ad said “you need a napkin to eat one”! Oh I can taste the goodness right now!!!🍔
A few years ago they we're called "Dave's Hot and Juicy." Nope, I'm not asking anyone for a Dave's Hot and Juicy. (Especially because they were quite dry.)
That is because Burger King is dying. Even McDonalds is starting to struggle. It used to be that Burger Kings were always on the next street from a McDonalds, but now they are becoming as rare as Rallys was back in the early 2000s.
Love this channel. Lived much of the fun and now “interesting and historic!” aspect of those nostalgic times. 15 cent Mc Donald burgers, candy bars 3 for a dime, ice cream 5 cents a scoop (if you could balance 3 or 4 it was ok), gas or a quart of oil 25 cents each. Was that about 1965? My dad bought me my first car, ‘53 Chevy blu-white under 50,000 miles for $50.00! Showroom condition. Can’t adequately describe the feeling of the comfort and roominess of that car’s interior, like sitting on a very nice sofa and the back seat had that rope grip across the back of the front seats to help you get out. $50.00 car. 25 cents a gallon, 15 cent hamburgers. It only lasted a few years. Guess it was all relative. Maybe our grandkids will look back at $25,000 first car, $6.00 a gallon gas, $8.00 hamburger ……….
I live near the HQ and the Wendy's across from it has a small museum displayed in one of the dining sections. Even has one of the old tables with the newspaper top. My little boy loves it.
I bought my husband a "Where's the beef?" Beach towel with Clara Peller on it back in 1984 and I still have it. My nearest Wendy's is an hour away in Folsom, CA because the one in Placerville closed years ago. This cuts down on my getting my Frosty fix.

And I love Wendy’s.. back in the day , late 70’s early 80’s you could get a salad , bake potatoes and a drink for just a few dollars…I use to take my mom three as a treat because she loves bake potatoes..this is a beautiful and yet another American exceptionalism of what you can do in the USA…
I love Wendy’s. After moving to Japan, I noticed the absence of Wendy’s in Tokyo, but fortunately they made collaboration restaurants with Japanese chain First Kitchen, so that I can still enjoy a great Wendy’s burger. They are very expensive, though. In Japan a basic Wendy’s mean costs the equivalent of $10.00!

Wendy and Little Debbie...2 iconic redheads! Even though I rarely eat fast food, Wendy's is the go to for me. They might cost a little more but they have the best food. Does any other big chain even have chili or baked potatoes? An original Frosty is also a given when ever I stop there.
Back in the day, I lived on the Eastside of Detroit, Michigan in the Gratiot and Houston-Whittier area. There is a Wendy's located on Gratiot just south of Houston-Whittier. I went to Wendy's quite a bit. The food was very good. I also remember Clara Peller from the Wendy's commercial. When, Clara would say outloud, "Where's the Beef "! And, to this very day that same Wendy's location is still open for business. There was a Taco Bell 1 block south on Gratiot and the Taco Bell closed down permanently and they tore the Taco Bell building down.
I worked valet at the Deer Creek country club in south florida in June of 1991. Dave Thomas came in one night for a function. On the way out he asked the valet if he knew who he was. The valet goes "Yea, you're that guy who owns Burger King aren't you?" Dave laughed and tipped him $20.
My Dad would take us there when their drippy, juicy burgers were popular. I wish they'd bring back the greasy burger. lol We love their Frosty and natural lemonade. They have the best nuggets, too.
If I'm not mistaken I believe Arby's also used to sell baked potatoes decades ago but stopped I think when they merged with Wendy's for a short bit. I think it was a bacon cheddar broccoli version they had at Arby's
I first went into a Wendy's in Eastern Ohio way back 1974. I was blown away by the quality of their hamburgers and their fries. Their hamburgers were by far the best.
I never cared much for Wendy’s…but when they changed their fries a few years back that was a game changer for me. Plus it helped A LOT that the expanded their chicken sandwich selection as I cannot physically process beef.
In the late 70's Wendy's opened up a store in my hometown and they quickly became the favorite "Mom needs a break night" in our family. A single w/cheese fries and chili was my option. Sadly these days,, the quality of their products has taken a dive and I rarely go there.

I haven't been to a Wendy's in a long time, but I always enjoyed their excellent chili...it was my late dad's favorite. I can't speak of the quality now, but when I ate there, their food was delicious.
I just brought home a bunch of Dave's singles, fries and chili for dinner. My mother was very impressed with the great taste and freshness of the lettuce and tomato. The fries weren't too salty either. She said "the chain has really kicked it up a notch. It's even better now than when it arrived in the '80s"
We started going to Wendy's when they arrived her in southwestern Connecticut. My Dad loved the chili, Mom enjoyed the frosty's and I just thought it was cool to have a restaurant same as my name 😀. I also enjoyed the food too.
Dad's gone now, so now I enjoy the chili.
I highly recommend going. I hope your area is as good the 3 we have here in Fairfield County Connecticut.
I go and get a small cup of Wendy’s chili for my dad at least once a week. He loves Wendy’s chili and he could eat it every other day. I understand your memories with your dad!
@@noble604 Thank you! I'm glad you have those opportunities with your dad. My dad died at a fairly young age - those times are fleeting and go by quickly. Your dad is fortunate to have you!
@Nathan Michaels I will cherish those memories. I don't eat out much at all and when I do, I prefer "mom and pop" type places. Actually, I process much of my fresh food - this summer I've been busy processing blackberries and I make a chilled blackberry cream soup (minus the seeds) - it is so good on a hot day!
@@wendyc7730 Thank you - it sounds like you have a nice place there. We do have a Wendy's here in town, but I don't go out much to eat - I like making my own things...but a Frosty sounds great right about now! It's so hot here in SC!
Good times!
Yes I have dipped my fries in that delicious chocolate Frosty and my husband said that Wendy’s burgers are the juiciest of all and I really love the fact that they are so authentic💜
When I took my daughter there the first time she also said the burgers are very juicy
3:20 - The Frosty is what drew me to Wendy's. Absolutely delicious.
I buy their $1 key tag at the beginning of the year good for a free Junior Frosty all year with a purchase 🍦
Pro tip -vanilla ice cream add coca powder and sugar mix well, instant frosty
The first time I got one they gave me a straw and no spoon. I thought it was a broken milkshake, it was impossible. LOL!
Its similar to but not better than Arby's jamocha.
I remember when Wendy's came to the Houston area. We went to the Pasadena, Texas location. Their patties were thick and the burgers actually looked like their photos. That didn't last very long.
Oh man I am so old I remember going to Wendy's as a little girl when it frist opened with my grandma.
You are a wild man!!!!! Love that menu!!!
Man you guys sure lived in a golden era for burgers.
Ever put chili on the burger? There’s a place out here SoCal called Tommy’s that puts chili on all the burgers. Hot mess indeed lol. Nice man.
@@Porsche996driver I recently saw a lady fix a fully dressed 1/4 pound cheeseburger with a large slice of a fresh Fried Green Tomato on top. I thought I bet that is so delicious as I love both! 😂👌
Now you got me craving all of it! I don't have a Wendy's.
I’ve heard he was a Good Sam but didn’t know about his adoption story and support. That’s another legacy, surely impacted many lives.
When I was in school, Dave came to speak and got lost, was so polite and humble (and funny), was such a pleasure to meet him.
Is it just me or are these videos so relaxing and therapeutic 😃✌💜
I used to manage a Wendy's in Virginia and I remember when people would come through the drive-thru and say "Where's the Beef" Those were the days.
I worked at one in VA and not long after I started I was making sandwiches and forgot the hamburger. My cousins husband is the one who got it and came up and showed it to me and said, "where's the beef"? Everyone just laughed. I was embarrassed I forgot.
We still eat Wendy's Hamburgers and we also Love their little specials that they have and of course the cute little girl with her two pic tails lol thanks for sharing this upload.😘😊
Thanks to this video, I'm having Wendy's for dinner.
Hahaha ... I don't blame you.
I miss Wendy's! It was so good back in the day when I was a kid. Ever since they changed their fries, I rarely eat there anymore.
They changed them again and they are much better.
We here in Ohio were very disappointed when Wendy's closed their original restaurant on Broad St.
I visited there on a stop in Columbus once about 20 years ago, that's really sad to hear.
@@timmmahhhh It was, I once rode past it when I was in Columbus in the mid 90's.
When did they close? I sure hope they bring it back to life. LoL 😅
How long ago was that? I lived in Columbus for about 8 months in 1993-94 and I remember seeing it.
I fondly remember remember volunteering at COSI back in the late 80's and going to that Wendy's. It was super cool.
Simply one of the very best channels on UA-cam. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Since i found this channel i get excited to see new ones posted. I have been thinking of some videos that i would like to see. We are in texas and have HEB grocery stores and they have a long history. As well as whataburger and it would be cool to see a video of Uhaul as well. Thanks for the content.
Man I forgot about the baked potatoes. I used to like the salad bar. You could even make tacos. Also liked the commercials with Dave Thomas.
Right i remember that. Clever to adopt that slogan ha.
@@Porsche996driver Maybe that's why he lost in a 49-to-1 landslide versus Reagan.
I was 18 and in college in 1980. I was so poor. I used to get a Wendy's single, no fries, no drink...just asked for glass of water...and my high school best friend worked there. She used to talk about how clean they were. And the high quality of food. That meant a lot to me because she was not easily impressed
If your best friend worked there, she should have tried to cut ✂ you some kind of a deal.
Mr. Thomas was takin' way too soon ! Truly a great man ! RIP
Dave Thomas died in 2002 at age 69.
My first job was at Wendy's@14 Thanks for sharing😊
I'm going to Wendy's tomorrow! I'm 72 now, and remember the first Wendy's to arrive in Vineland, NJ. Always a good burger and still is to this day. Burger Chef was good too, back then.
When I was in my late teens, I would order a Single, a Triple, Chilly, Fries, and a large Frosty. I weighted 125 lbs then.
Did they call you skinny? Lol 😉😁
Cute doggo 🐶♥️
I attend the annual Italian Gathering car show in Dublin, Ohio, every year, and all the money raised goes towards the Dave Thomas Adoption Foundation. I am also adopted, so I support this every year.
Dave also worked for Regas in Knoxville for a time and was a kind caring giving human being ........ Their burgers are so delicious and the frosty is a slice of heaven.......
I love love love Wendy’s!!!! It is my favorite fast food restaurant!!! I love your videos!!!! They are so nostalgic!!!! I love your music too!!!!
I loved your Barq’s videos and I would love to see a video on A&W root beer!!!! Barq’s and A&W are my favorite root beers!!!!
Also thanks so very much for the Cadillac video, Dr. Pepper and all of your videos!!!!
I miss the Wendy’s tables with the ads underneath the tables!!!! I really loved their yellow packaging and the blue and white stripes for the employees!!!!
I love Wendy’s breakfast potato wedges and their biscuits and gravy and their free style drink machines!!!! I love the Vitamin Water Peach drink in it!!!!
Thanks again for your wonderful videos!!!! I love them so much!!!! They are so nostalgic and I love them!!!! Take care. 👍🏻😬
Was a manager at the busiest Wendy's downtown Chicago mid 80s.
Wendy's is very nostalgic for me and my favorite fast food restaurant:)!! I think Wendy's should be number 1 and not number 3!! And I so remember as a Child, seeing that Commercial, "Where's the Beef?" and I used to laugh every time:)!! Also, I used to collect stickers as a Child and I have a sticker of
Clara Peller asking, "Where's the Beef?" in my sticker album, which I have saved:)!!
Thank you so much for this one. I was hoping you’d make a video about Wendy’s. 👍
Great channel!
That first restaurant sat across the street from cosi and was awesome when we'd go on field trips at school
I loved the baconator and I still like the original single - Dave Thomas was a great salesman because he believed in his products and he seemed like a wonderful fun guy.
I always liked their food and Clara was funny!
Now that I am old. My dates say “ where’s the beef” when it’s time to get busy.
What did you expect considering they'd only been around for a short time at that point?
I love the chili I can't get enough of it.
With a large order of french fries. 👍
Yep! Fries dipped in a Frosty! Simply delicious.
I never heard of that before now. Sounds not so good.
I like the fries and love the Frosty too much to combine them!
I bet my dad could eat one without using a napkin. He's very proud of his tidyness.
I just read an article that Wendy's recently passed Burger King to take the #2 spot.
That is because Burger King is dying. Even McDonalds is starting to struggle.
It used to be that Burger Kings were always on the next street from a McDonalds, but now they are becoming as rare as Rallys was back in the early 2000s.
I first discovered fries dipped in a shake about 1960, been a habit of mine ever since, no matter who's fries and shake it is.
Absolutely love their chili and still do, I always get a hankering for Wendy's chili.
My 1st encounter with Wendy's was October 1980 in Nashville Tennessee. I've frequented Wendy's ever since that time.
Nashville! I frequent the one on Nolensville rd and the one on Bell rd.
Love this channel. Lived much of the
fun and now “interesting and historic!” aspect of those nostalgic times.
I remember one of ther campaigns: Free Chilli When It's Chlly, Free Frosty When It's Not
I live near the HQ and the Wendy's across from it has a small museum displayed in one of the dining sections.
I love your Chanel!
I remember during the hay day of the super value menu it would be so busy that when you got in line you had an order for to fill out to make the ordering faster
I miss the SUPER BAR. Salad, Mexican, and pasta. Plus, they had amazing garlic bread.
I was never a big customer of any fast food, I perfer munching on a bag of radishes or heating up a bag of frozen vegetables, but the music in this video today kind of made my day.
Goodmorning and that was a excellent video about Wendy's !! That's one of my favorite Fast-food Restaurants 😋 .🍔🍟🥤 I remember when. My first time going to Wendy's when I was about 5 years old. And I was with my moms at one on Jamaica ave and Queens Blvd in Jamaica queens !!!
Wendy and Little Debbie...2 iconic redheads!
Even though I rarely eat fast food, Wendy's is the go to for me. They might cost a little more but they have the best food. Does any other big chain even have chili or baked potatoes? An original Frosty is also a given when ever I stop there.
The combination of chocolate and vanilla explains why the frosty is better tasting than 99% of the competition.
I must have a dirty mind because everytime I hear the " where's the beef" slogan I start laughing....😆
Yum, yes I have. Wandy's frostys in the summer oh boy!!! Missed them this last summer. Hope thay come back this summer
My coworkers had a chili contest. My coworker won best chili. She laughed and said that she didn’t make it. She bought Wendy’s chili. So good.
I need a large chocolate frosty
Don’t forget the large fries!
Captain America America Very likely Canola or Soy bean oils........very bad
I traveled the 14 mile round trip and got Two and they cost me a bit over $5. Put one in the freezer for later.
Out of the big three
Wendy’s takes the crown
@2:30...look at those prices!!😲👀
Anyone remember the Wendy's on 19th Ave. & Glendale in Phoenix in the 70's?
My Dad would take us there when their drippy, juicy burgers were popular. I wish they'd bring back the greasy burger. lol We love their Frosty and natural lemonade. They have the best nuggets, too.
Wendy's is the ONLY fast food restaurant that serves BAKED POTATOES!!!
If I'm not mistaken I believe Arby's also used to sell baked potatoes decades ago but stopped I think when they merged with Wendy's for a short bit. I think it was a bacon cheddar broccoli version they had at Arby's
I sure have had many of them of the years along with some chili.
Carl's Jr. had them around 1998. They were really good! They were discontinued at some point.
I first went into a Wendy's in Eastern Ohio way back 1974. I was blown away by the quality of their hamburgers and their fries. Their hamburgers were by far the best.
I went to a Wendy's in Laramie, Wyoming. I was blown away by the wind when I exited the place.
i love everything wendys has to offer, but id love it if they went back to their original fries :(
I never cared much for Wendy’s…but when they changed their fries a few years back that was a game changer for me. Plus it helped A LOT that the expanded their chicken sandwich selection as I cannot physically process beef.
I love Wendy's!!! Bless their work.
We’re loving Wendy’s ❤️ 🥰
Back in 1987, I would go to Wendy's everyday for lunch and get a side salad. During that year, I lost over 100 lbs. Thanks Dave. 👍
In the late 70's Wendy's opened up a store in my hometown and they quickly became the favorite "Mom needs a break night" in our family. A single w/cheese fries and chili was my option. Sadly these days,, the quality of their products has taken a dive and I rarely go there.
Man what a Golden era for burgers. I missed out. Pfft
I find it still is good. And they haven’t changed the Frosty!
😁..."you got that bag, you got a biggie bag". The R&B hook was genius!
