FYI: P&O cruises (UK) automatic gratuities have stopped. They are part and parcel of your cruise holiday price..

How do you know the main wait staff will share the tip with others?

Pack half the clothes that you think you'll need and take twice the cash that you think you'll need. I'm too generous when it comes to tipping. I wish they would figure out a better solution.

When you've earned free drinks in the casino, how much do you tip the server bringing you the drinks? I was tipping two dollars per glass of wine to my guy, and that was apparently good enough for him because he made sure I was never empty for long. Just wondering what everyone else does. Love your videos!

There is no end to the tip debate my wife and kids were servers so i understand how important tips are The cruise line wants you to pre tip because so many including me have a different budget for paying before and on board
I have an issue with anytime tips are perceived as mandatory if its automatically added i feel like they got what they wanted but I’ve found the small token for drinks is helpful to get better service

Yeah, I struggle with it even internally. I'm naturally a generous tipper, but I also acknowledge the out-of-hand tipping culture.

This is my main issue, because I worked as a delivery driver/server for 26 years. Every server/delivery driver will tell you that tipping is a part of the deal, none will tell you otherwise. But tipping on cruise ships seems to be everyone but the workers telling us to tip extra, so I'm really confused about it. This video literally answers nothing, it says "I do this" and that is all. I'm fine tipping if it's expected, I'll add it to the list, but we don't have a ton of money and if it just goes into an extra pot on top of what we already pay, instead of to the person who was amazing directly (yes, I have read several times that is a thing, but I don't know) then obviously my original money they call gratuities is enough.
It shouldn't be this complicated, a former employee should be happy to let us know what they actually expect at the end of the cruise, honestly. It shouldn't be this complicated, yet for some reason it is, and I absolutely do not understand why.

I do not tip in a hotel and they usually include breakfast. No difference on a ship.

So you can't remove or change them until the last night on carnival?

I like to tip the steward right when I get on board. I get the best service afterwards.

If you do no tip the postman who delivers mail to your front door mail box, why should you tip the waiter who brings food to your table, unless the service is above and beyond.

Is cash best or gift cards?
I ask about gift cards since they can use them online whereas with cash they may have to deposit it before they can use it or am I overthinking this?

Perhaps you could add a per day range of estimates for cash overall and each category.

    Tips SHOULD NEVER be mandatory.
If it’s mandatory it is definitely not a tip.

300$ per couple per 7 day cruise is a norm. Just waiter. Than assistent 159$, steward another 300$.American guest tips extra. Brits and Asia, no show on last day of a cruise, and most run short. So, if the guest are Non American, prepaid is done. Ask your waiter. Do not guess.

Tip the people who services you. I always opt out of auto tip
