- This hymn came from the very day the missionaries arrived in Honolulu from Huahine (Tahiti). Hiram Bingham, Hawaii missionary, paddled his outrigger canoe out to the ship and exchanged godly phrases with Tahiti missionary, William Ellis. That exchange was the source of the hymn, that’s the day the Lord moved mightily on Queen Kaahumanu.
