Over 20 years ago, I was a big Microsoft fan. That enthusiasm had dwindled and Edge is one major reason. It shows me that Microsoft is struggling to keep people using their products. I view Edge they way I view viruses - something to avoid at nearly all costs. This video makes me think I might want to give it another chance. Thanks Leo!
Thank you, thank you! As a Mac user with Edge (Chrome I gave up for work use.) These tips really help me getting the Microsoft cutter gone, or at least under my control. Now any new tab parks on Duck Duck Go's home page.
Thanks, Leo. Iam finding Edge has plenty of useful features to set up Favorites, or Bookmarks as it also called. That is my main reason I prefer Edge over other browsers, user friendly versatility to set up Favorites on Edge.
I thought you'd cover the Tabliss extension. It let's you create a custom New Tab page and customize it to your liking with a bunch of useful widgets, such as weather, notes, etc. Amazing stuff.
Disregard earlier post (had to change to the default option and changed the Home tab from there). Haven’t figured out how to customize a New Tab in the Mobile app yet
Tab Changer must be a W11 thing? My main gripe (and you could do it with IE) is that it doesn't automatically openthe page when you open a link by double clicking.
A lot of childish MS hate here in the comments. Edge is a fine browser "if" it is tamed, as you so poignantly put it. Thanks for the information which made the changes very simple. All has been done and I'm liking it a lot. 🙂
The best customization for Edge is to uninstall it after you've installed chrome or firefox, I won't have edge on my system constantly running in the background and using system resources
I don't use the new tab button in any browser. I prefer to type a new URL or search term into the address bar, then press Alt+Enter to open it in a new tab.
When Windows 10 eventually does go EOL, I intend to install 11 With an XML Response File. I plan on setting that file to install Windows 11 without Edge. I can install Chrome or the Mullvad Browser at the Command prompt or with the Chris Titus tool.
Every time I try to use Edge as my default browser none of the shortcuts I have on my desktop will launch. Every other browser I have will launch them when I make that browser the default but not Edge.
Regularly setting up other people's computers really drives into you how obnoxious Edge is. Presently it's easier for both yourself and the average user if one just do the minimal required work and then, without ever closing Edge to avoid the risk of regurgitation, downloading just about any other browser.
on the other hand, turn all this stuff off to maximize performance guys, edge is good but bloated as hell fortunately all of this can be turned off here and inside settings

Thank you so much! The default Edge start page is *so* amazingly annoying....
Thanks. I did this as I watched this video. Thanks so much. I was tired looking at news

I use Speed Dial 2 for New Tab. Great extension
I like to keep it simple, no feeds, no quick links, etc. Just a picture background and of course the tab or toolbar.
Clean and simple.
Leo, what are your thoughts about total recall ?

Very helpful. Thank you.

My homepage? about:blank
I noticed that in the mobile browser version there is no section available in Settings to change the start page, only to customize the new tab
What about Microsoft Edge Update malware .. is it still worth using Edge when there are more safe options available?

Very informative. Thanks, Leo....but, I'll stick with my preferred browser.
Which may have similar settings, if you're interested.
My start page is the setting page where you supposedly can delete history and cookies which weren't deleted at closing earlier (delete on exit).

Brave and Duckduckgo.
Edge should automatically start up at the Chrome, Firefox, and Opera download pages. I use Edge once when on a new machine. Never touch it again.

F Edge and Google. I use Brave and Duck Duck Go.
