In my 70 years (counting to 2021) of listening to classical music, this is one of those performances that I feel profoundly grateful: to all musicians (and those behind the production) of this engaging re-creation of Beethoven's revolutionary symphony. How many times have audiences (those on UA-cam included) participated in music making of this scale? In particular, I wanted to thank each one of the players for going the extra mile practicing the "staging" of the analysis portion of this concert before performing the symphony (from memory and without the comfort of sitting down; the cello section got to play sitting down of course). The talent and hard work of the musicians have won my sincere admiration. I imagine Beethoven himself would have been proud of them and touched by their musicianship and achievement. Bravo! (I was puzzled by the two "dislikes" shown on screen. If anything I could "dislike," it would be that we didn't get to hear what the musicians themselves had to say about their performing experiences.)

Comfort of playing sitting down like Claudio Arrau, you mean….?
Do you really going to tell me that you can really tell listening to someone if he or she are sitting down or standing?????
A composer, a novelist, a philosopher writes most of the times sitting down….you morron are you going to call that COMFORT sitting down???? What are you, a bloody marathon runner???

@@leonardoiglesias2394There is a huge effect when playing standing up vs sitting down. Especially for strings. You can move more when standing up, which allows the motions of the body in relation to the music to affect the bow and the fingers. You can really get a lot more expression when standing. Though for technique, sitting is actually preferred.

This is a phenomenal achievement!! I love Beethoven, but I am not a musician, so I can only guess at the skill and practice necessary for an orchestra to play a whole symphony without any printed music. This also meant that their attention was 100% on the conductor and I think this contributed to the success of this incredible venture. Skill, teamwork an leadership, More LIKES, please!

Amazing, that was truly fabulous. Loved the intro and guide, the performance itself, and Jessie's follow up. For a piece of music I've probably heard dozens of times that really renewed the experience. Thank you all.

Lovely play and lovely players. I believe that Beethoven was their age when he wrote this piece. Thank you, this is the best Beethoven#3.

Please…..dont compare Beethoven with anybody of this stupid age…please…..Beethoven would throw up seeing all this cheap and desperate marketing show. He didnt care about playing by memory or NOT sitting down…he was a pianist, you know…and a composer…they normally work sitting down…
They only to do something different than other orchestras to have an advantage selling tickets…and that does not work very long….

Best music ever written and best music ever performed. i guess if Beethoven saw such performance by heart he would like the idea that how music should play by feelings only

Its not dedicated. Faces are useless in music, you see……
They try to do with their faces what they cant reach only by playing….and they always find people who says: oh, look at the great faces!!!!! They make faces when they play!!!! How sweet!!!

The introductory material is absolutely great. I recommend that Nicholas Collon program Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 for his next project. There is so much humour in it. Off beat drum strokes, and also an unexpected C# as in the Eroica.

Music played as good as this should be here for eternity, or longer if possible. Aurora my dears, make a DVD of this I would buy it and play it full volume, to hell with neighbour's.

Very good performance, nothing that slow or stupid things like that
, accentuating the important moments, with speed, rhythm, joy and a lot of precision, as it should always be especially in the first movement.

The BBC has utterly ruined The Proms. It used to be that this kind of presentation was reserved for Blue Peter as a way of introducing eight-year-olds to the "classics". But now the BBC is hell-bent on inflicting this infantile nonsense upon a proms audience, a proportion of which probably knows more about the music than the presenter. What was once the greatest "classical" music festival of them all has been turned by the BBC into a cheap variety show aimed at appealing to an imaginary audience that knows nothing about anything.
