You have to keep in mind that there are many types of diabetes insipidus. However, thiazides are specifically used for patients with NEPHROGENIC diabetes insipidus, in which it is an inability to concentrate urine due to impaired renal tubule response to vasopressin (ADH), which leads to excretion of large amounts of dilute urine, which would cause the retention of large amounts of sodium in the body causing hypertension. Keep in mind that thiazides are also used for treating hypertension, which is found in this type of diabetes insipidus. With that being said, thiazides will help not only to release urine, but it will help with the release of more concentrated urine, meaning urine with more sodium specifically.
