Now this is something I didn't expect. Thanks for branching out with your interview partners lately, Thooorin - it's great to see you covering all aspects of CS.
Thank you, THANK YOU, Thorin! I've been waiting for you to cover this topic for a long time. I wish that Shawn would've explained a bit more on what makes a part of a map iconic.
Just the way he answered some things I think he is somewhat a part of valve and cs:go. Like how he said they are always listening made it seem like he was saying "Oh don't worry I am listening"... hardcore speculation yes but who knows :p
33:25 as much as fmpone might express himself clearly and concisely he doesn't exactly make for a good interviewee, thorin lays out a relatively long question that has the potential for an answer of depth and insight, whether it be an explanation, an anacdote, a story etc yet his answer is 10 seconds long :/
I think what FMPONE was alluding to while beating a dead horse with his answers is that the more a map is played, the more likely the map will enter the map pool; that’s a self-explanatory datum which FMPONE didn’t seem interested in embellishing due to it being palpable.
Imagine a world where on the strike of new years eve there were 7 new maps in the competitive map pool (pros too). metas would develop through the year and different teams could thrive as the time passed (loose and then into structured as it develops), at the end of each year (december sometime) you could have a greatest alltime map tourney. Could be fire!!
I really liked the artconcept and the look of it. It was so fresh and different, colorful but still kinda breathtaking, especially the design of the bombsites or coming from mid to A over that little bridge in particular.
ShootnGrab I personally think it was TOO mid centric for me to be comfortable, but that contributed to really fun and interesting gameplay. It didn't have anything stupid in it, so it was good for competitive. even though I thought it was a bit awkward, valve should add more interesting maps.
well Cache is the only non-Valve map in Active Duty isn't it? (Not counting Mirage, since it was remade) So FMPone already achieved more than everyone else. Getting another map to active duty would be crazy.
I really love how, as the maps get more and more curvy, Cache stays at mostly 90 degree angles. It really seems to fit the theme somehow. Doesn't that just seem Russian? Maybe it's just me.
Why tho? I think Valve needs to get their shit togheter and fix game important stuff like make a better anti-cheat, last 3 games I've played was with 1 cheater in each game.. Matchmaking is not fun and fair anymore..
People act like FMPONE's contribution to Cache gives him some sort of credibility as a map designer. He did not design Cache--Volcano designed Cache. He just decorated it. FMPONE's first defuse map was Gwalior, which looked more like a Quake map than a CS map.
FMPONE either is socially awkward or he is a politician "he answers with a question" I think thorin asked some great questions, some of the questions he ask I wanted to know the answer to but FMPONE just didn't answer thing solid. Btw thorin good work in the questioning, from watching the interview it just seem hard if the interviewee doesn't respond.
Not gonna watch but any answers on when we will actually have a new map in the map pool that's competitive/good and not shit like Canals? Tired of playing the same 5 maps...
Hauns91 the current version of contra doesn't really work in CSGO. it needs a slight rework to remove the cssource style narrow corridors and make up for their absence with some other layout tweaks. russka is simple enough, but see de_sicily(russka remake). lots of optimization problems. the layout needs a few tweaks to fit the engine and the game as it is now. I've experimented with remakes/tweaks to both of these maps actually, but there's not enough support for it and I don't have alot of artistic ability in hammer. if I had someone artistically skilled to help me with maps, I could probably make really good maps gameplay-wise.
"To a certain extent, i think that is an incorrect question", "I think that's the wrong question to ask" Jesus this guy is so difficult. What an awkward interview. He can't follow Thorin's thought process. A lot of the times he said those i was actually interested in the answer to Thorins question.
i would getting old interviewing this guy.. omg. Answering either or questions with YES. This guy has clearly fundamental communication problems. Clearly why valve likes this guy. Their communication must be great.
For me, Crown was too small, a dark Mid and the extreme height variants, is what the map suffers from. Looks great, doesn't play great. The balance of design and game play that compliment each other is no easy task.
I think Thorin is talking so fast that the interviewed person switch himself into listen-only mode and doesnt get much time to process. And then Thorin barks "what do you think of that?" and they're not prepared to answer properly
"If the players don't feel the same, then it's just going to fail." Yeah, de_santorini is a prime example of that FMPONE...! Couldn't even do that yourself. smh
"Valve are always listening to the players" "If the players don't like it, Valve will change it" FMPONE, man, that has only been true when they have really fucked up the game. We're talking R8 update levels of fuck up. Other than that, I really don't feel Valve are listening to their players at all. They seem to follow their inner vision of how they want Counter Strike to be played. Good suggestions are literally floating around the CSGO subreddit (along with some terrible ones too of course) and some of these suggestions have been floating around for more than 3 years. Yet Valve do nothing with it. Not even playtesting them. So no, Valve does not always listen to their playerbase.
I'll be honest as well Santorini was a fail. Santorini was a map where if you go mid the round would end in 30 seconds. Control mid, and aim duel. If they rush a or b go mid and take the site, no executes no tactical mind no counter strike.
Thooorin asked like 20 questions and FMPONE answered like 3. What a great politician this guy would make, lmao.
ROFL accurate as fuck.
Now this is something I didn't expect. Thanks for branching out with your interview partners lately, Thooorin - it's great to see you covering all aspects of CS.
damn, another great unexpected interview partner. Thanks for the content!
3kliksphillip next
Tshyk D Ghost yes
plz yes. And ask Valve why they didn't accept de_sparity.
Thorin: How much pro play do you actually follow?
FMPONE: Yes.
Prow a microcosm of the problems with this interview.
Yea, I know. I just found it funny :P
Thanks for putting the spotlight on the mapping community with this great interview and thanks to FMPONE for his efforts!
Thank you, THANK YOU, Thorin! I've been waiting for you to cover this topic for a long time.
I wish that Shawn would've explained a bit more on what makes a part of a map iconic.
His head is only touching the middle cushion
I just want to thank you Thorin for putting out free behind the scenes content. Have a nice day.
This interview is great, FMPONE is great, but holy shit it's like watching Thorin interview another Thorin.
600 COMBINED IQ
lmao
Jebus i think he just announced reflections with himself on twitter
Jebus well your wish came true... LOL
If anyone else wants me to hook them up with a youtube comment that manipulates reality, it'll be £10 paypal
Thorin's reaction to "my dms are open, I take everyone's feed back" LMAO
CPO Time?
47:00
heard of him through Natural Selection 2. When I switched to CSGO I was surprised to see he contributed to cache.
talk to thooorin is one of your best series
Am I the only one who thinks he danced around the question on how to get a map to the map pool, and in the end not actually answering it.
Søren Pilegaard Rasmussen because nobody knows...
he danced around alot of questions
Considering he has pedigree the process for him to get a map noticed by Valve is probably different than the rest of the us.
Just the way he answered some things I think he is somewhat a part of valve and cs:go. Like how he said they are always listening made it seem like he was saying "Oh don't worry I am listening"... hardcore speculation yes but who knows :p
He doesn't know, nobody knows. But basically they look at numbers, it's how they created a billion dollar skin industry.
holy shit, you are pushing out so much good content. loving this:)
33:25 as much as fmpone might express himself clearly and concisely he doesn't exactly make for a good interviewee, thorin lays out a relatively long question that has the potential for an answer of depth and insight, whether it be an explanation, an anacdote, a story etc yet his answer is 10 seconds long :/
Damn I saw a lot of requests for this one. Glad it happened :)
Some great interviews lately. Keep it up.
One of my favourite people in the community.
Great interview thanks Duncan. An interesting guy talking about things I didn't know much about.
thorin is going ham on content these days
Thorin will your content ever be in a podcast form? I dig your content and would like to listnen to it whilst biking and stuff
I think what FMPONE was alluding to while beating a dead horse with his answers is that the more a map is played, the more likely the map will enter the map pool; that’s a self-explanatory datum which FMPONE didn’t seem interested in embellishing due to it being palpable.
Dev1ce shared more information in this video than fmpone
You can see how Thorin isn't happy with this interview :D
I agree. As time goes on he gets a bit more and more prying and overtly cynical.
I hope Thorin have an interview with the creator of Dust II
So much truth! We need new Maps, lets wait what mapcore has in stores for us :D
Who else thought Santorini was a pretty decent map that could be in the rotation?
I really liked the artconcept and the look of it. It was so fresh and different, colorful but still kinda breathtaking, especially the design of the bombsites or coming from mid to A over that little bridge in particular.
ShootnGrab I personally think it was TOO mid centric for me to be comfortable, but that contributed to really fun and interesting gameplay. It didn't have anything stupid in it, so it was good for competitive. even though I thought it was a bit awkward, valve should add more interesting maps.

Crowbar overpass?
Jayela BRZ overpass is valve made
I thought there were names of creators on the loading screen, maybe I'm wrong.
Hi, im from the future and fmpone has another of his map in the game, SUBZERO.
This is great content, I don't even play csgo yet found it interesting.
FMPONE is a man of few words
Thorin on fire this week dude!
Thorin can you do video with Pronax?
I love cache! My #1 map
I really love how, as the maps get more and more curvy, Cache stays at mostly 90 degree angles. It really seems to fit the theme somehow. Doesn't that just seem Russian? Maybe it's just me.
Amazing! Thanks!
This means that a new map is coming.
Why tho? I think Valve needs to get their shit togheter and fix game important stuff like make a better anti-cheat, last 3 games I've played was with 1 cheater in each game.. Matchmaking is not fun and fair anymore..
1. The people who make the maps are most likely not the same people working on anti cheat
2. FMPONE does not work for valve
After over 1000 games I can confirm that hardcore cheaters are pretty damn rare in NA matchmaking.
:D
5:30, yes play test. This is what valve should have done for canals
Such an interesting topic, tyty tooorin
People act like FMPONE's contribution to Cache gives him some sort of credibility as a map designer. He did not design Cache--Volcano designed Cache. He just decorated it. FMPONE's first defuse map was Gwalior, which looked more like a Quake map than a CS map.
Is that a steelseries wireless? Nice.
Legend!
You should've asked him if he had any idea's for chances to current maps like mirage etc
would it be possible to ever get a valve guy on the show?
STAAHP! I can't keep up with all this content! I mean, even if they ARE only 1 hr long....
thorin D BOSS! Great content
i dont like too simple maps
great and interesting video !!
Does thorin actually just wake up and do interviews/podcasts all day or what
I wish you asked him what he thought of Canals.
bru thorin you're putting out so many content man its hard to keep up
Misypo poor you
please interview 3kliks. It would be so good
i played it and it was promising
"He got a job at Riot" - if only they knew
FMPONE either is socially awkward or he is a politician "he answers with a question"
I think thorin asked some great questions, some of the questions he ask I wanted to know the answer to but FMPONE just didn't answer thing solid.
Btw thorin good work in the questioning, from watching the interview it just seem hard if the interviewee doesn't respond.
Not gonna watch but any answers on when we will actually have a new map in the map pool that's competitive/good and not shit like Canals?
Tired of playing the same 5 maps...
Hauns91 +season and +tuscan/mill valve remake
I wish those maps and Russka/Contra were in CSGO. Contra and Tuscan were my favorite CSS maps.
It disappoints me when guests on here never directly answer the questions that thoorin asks.
next project: Scorpion
"To a certain extent, i think that is an incorrect question", "I think that's the wrong question to ask"
Jesus this guy is so difficult. What an awkward interview. He can't follow Thorin's thought process. A lot of the times he said those i was actually interested in the answer to Thorins question.
thought it was moses
i would getting old interviewing this guy.. omg. Answering either or questions with YES. This guy has clearly fundamental communication problems. Clearly why valve likes this guy. Their communication must be great.
he did not even answer some q. like the map update one..
Man, Thorin really rustled this man's jimmies.
an interesting dude
For me, Crown was too small, a dark Mid and the extreme height variants, is what the map suffers from. Looks great, doesn't play great. The balance of design and game play that compliment each other is no easy task.
There some big ass headphones
First Warowl and now fmpone..... Excellent... Looking forward to more of these videos... Thanks :) #greatcontent
Just put season in the active match pool for fucks sake
I think Thorin is talking so fast that the interviewed person switch himself into listen-only mode and doesnt get much time to process. And then Thorin barks "what do you think of that?" and they're not prepared to answer properly
But on the other hand I think FMPONE could've talked more. Kinda disrecpectful to answer a long elaborate question with one sentence.
It's a bit frustrating when people keep misunderstanding a question.
I don't like how you can't use AK and M4 to wallbang through the walls where squeeky is now.
RB Newell would be way to strong on high level IMO
How?
watch the video that thorin did a few days ago about wallbangspots that are just random.
But that isn't skilless nor is it a spot where one person has the advantage over the other.
choke free zone!
52:57 How American. He wants the people to change and accept his work only because he spent a lot of time on it.
"If the players don't feel the same, then it's just going to fail."
Yeah, de_santorini is a prime example of that FMPONE...! Couldn't even do that yourself. smh
"Valve are always listening to the players" "If the players don't like it, Valve will change it"

He's a little sassy, feel like he thinks thorin was out to grit him haha
Next time kliksphilip please!
I want de_crown and de_season in the official competitive map pool! That would be so awesome..
Deli eehm, what about no
100% professional feedback
Deli crown isn't a good enough map. but, season could.
Deli season in - cobble out!
Crown is terrible for competitive
"buy the operation passes" LITTEREALY EVERY PLAYER ON CSGO PLAYS RANKED OR COMP WHY WOULD I PAY FOR A PASS TO PLAY WITH BOTS !
no, thanks, i dont wanna play like cutler
BRING BACK SANTORINI
Valve is fucking sleeping on Operation
Wow, hes self-centered as fuck. Awkward interview, but another quality good time. Thanks for your content!
trevor he manages to try to be so humble it makes him not humble
exactly
It's like he didn't understand what you were asking about what was wrong with crown
I'll be honest as well Santorini was a fail. Santorini was a map where if you go mid the round would end in 30 seconds. Control mid, and aim duel. If they rush a or b go mid and take the site, no executes no tactical mind no counter strike.
I like Csgo
thats mean:(
thats rude u
Kevin Duong He constantly spams I like cs:go so he can go Fuck himself
tom possessed if you dislike csgo, why do you watch this video?
MyRevoltec thorin also makes Lol videos so some could get here that way
No, Eden I won't.
next video is #666
FMPONE im convinced you literally dont understand the competitive map structure
"I think that's the incorrect question to ask" - get over yourself.
Stephen Williams He's probably under map NDAs with valve so can't answer all the questions he gets asked. It was still an interesting interview
this guy LOL
GA
I like Dota
This guy seems off in some way. Clearly very smart and talented, but damn..
season, piranesi, prodigy need to stay in the mm pool. get vertigo, militia and office out
Who tf wants to play like cutler from clg? LOL
I wont thumbs down coz of thooorin, but the guest failed so much in aswering the questions.
Great idea, terrible interview since fmpone didnt answer a single question
this guy dodges everything. ...its just fucking counterstrike not classified docs.
Tic Tac head
