The smaller states of the Holy Roman Empire is shown with the imperial standard, and the flag of Muscovy/Russia is shown with the coat of arms on a red background.
Due to the extreme timescales, a few flags from the pre modern period aren't really national flags as we think of them today.
The flag of the Almohad dynasty is wrong.
The Teutonic Order should've been conquered in 1237.
Kakatiya, Pandya kingdoms had a flag before 1279.
Cilicia should've ended in 1375.
Wrong Abyssinia flag from 1019 -1542.
Wrong Kievan Rus flag.
The Hausa shouldn't have any flag.
The Lordship of Ireland should appear in 1171.
Wrong medieval Japanese flag before the Akishaga Shogunate.
The appearance of the Mayan flag could be inaccurate.

Various parts of the French Empire claimed in 1790 should have been claimed earlier.
Portugal should have had a colony in modern Guinea - Bissau in 1785, not 1814.
Jolof should have disappeared in 1549, not 1830.
Madeira became Portuguese in 1425, not 1860.
Sakhalin should have been entirely under Russian control in 1875, not 1892.
Various parts of the British Empire in the South Atlantic should have been claimed before 1900.

i know some people argue that the best flag is something that can be drawn by a five year old, but i still feel like now we're missing some real powerful beauty of ancient symbols
Agreed, from a UK viewer. Heraldry may be pretty but it's commonly associated with a family of rulers as opposed to an actual country. So such a practice was always going to be short lived in the wake of a more liberal movement which has come about in the past few centuries or so.

Well, that depends on what you consider Spanish territory throughout the years, depending on certain factors, Spain would have been even larger in the 16th century. For example, if you use the borders established by the Carta de Organización de la Cofradía de la Santísima Resurrección of Rome of 1580, where the charted uninhabited or conflictive lands such as Patagonia to the Strait of Magellan, until after the Rebellion of 1598, when direct Spanish rule was lost and definately after the Parliament of Quilín of 1642, are included (just like in the case of the British Empire, in Australia for example, where the Deserts had remained barely touched by British exploration, even as late as 1939 dome of these regions had not been crossed, and as late as 1984 there were indigenous people who had not contacted yet with Western civilization. Another example can be Canada. Victoria Island wasn't even entirely charted until the 20th century). Although I personally wouldn't include the Southern Part of Mindanao, French Guiana or Surinam as they do in that map.
