Agreed, from a UK viewer. Heraldry may be pretty but it's commonly associated with a family of rulers as opposed to an actual country. So such a practice was always going to be short lived in the wake of a more liberal movement which has come about in the past few centuries or so.

Well, that depends on what you consider Spanish territory throughout the years, depending on certain factors, Spain would have been even larger in the 16th century. For example, if you use the borders established by the Carta de Organización de la Cofradía de la Santísima Resurrección of Rome of 1580, where the charted uninhabited or conflictive lands such as Patagonia to the Strait of Magellan, until after the Rebellion of 1598, when direct Spanish rule was lost and definately after the Parliament of Quilín of 1642, are included (just like in the case of the British Empire, in Australia for example, where the Deserts had remained barely touched by British exploration, even as late as 1939 dome of these regions had not been crossed, and as late as 1984 there were indigenous people who had not contacted yet with Western civilization. Agreed, from a UK viewer. Heraldry may be pretty but it's commonly associated with a family of rulers as opposed to an actual country. So such a practice was always going to be short lived in the wake of a more liberal movement which has come about in the past few centuries or so.
