Masterless Men are my favorite Irish/Newfoundland folk music group. Their music is so haunting and beautifully sung. With every chord, they sing me back home to my native Newfoundland & Labrador 💚🍀
We saw them the first time in Terra Nova National Park.It was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the national parks. We were hooked then and been following them ever since.
Brilliant rendition, I worked with lots of Newfies during my years in Canada 🇨🇦, you'll never meet better people anywhere, they're the true salt of the earth solid and resolute and they sure know how to have fun ❤️.
A tune originally written in Scotland called "Armstrong's goodnight" prior to 1605. But since of course has been wholly embraced by our brothers and sisters the Irish. Beautiful rendition.
Hal Barbour a poem ARMSTRONG'S GOODNIGHT This night is my departing night, For here nae langer must I stay; There's neither friend nor foe o' mine, But wishes me away. What I have done thro' lack of wit, I never, never can recall; I hope ye're a' my friends as yet; Goodnight, and joy be with you all!
A fine group. I discovered their music 9 years ago on a trip to Newfoundland. I ended up listening to their songs over and over while putting 2,000 miles on the car in about 10 days. You're right, they are unpretentious, but very talented.
I don't know how I found this song but this is my favorite rendition. I could never ask for a more beautiful melody, instrumentation, or voice for such a tune.
The masters of music, singing, musicians ,and by no means masterless, these men are the very best I've ever heard, this is a great rendition, the best rendition, far away in Australia ,brilliant, my dream is to be in the same place with them playing live, the best!!!!!
Just came across these fellas i am amazed how good they are its just like they have just got off the boat from the old country i shall be looking for more of there stuff.
Just found them lately, it`s all true what you say. What a band!! I am playing their CD over and over, it`s just that good. They have introduced me to some fine songs that I was not familiar with, would love to see them live.
Padraig, U will have to come to Nfld to hear them. As far as I know they rarely go outside the province. Lead singer John Curran visited Ireland the first time about 3 yrs ago on a holiday. He recently suffered a heart attack but is recovering well.
Padraig, In Nfld there is a legend of a band of Irishmen who escaped from the British by going into the Butterpot Mountains of Nfld. They were called the Masterless Men. John Curran and his musicians took that name for their band. I love their version of Sean South of Garryowen
Perfect pace and voice and musicians. Thanks. To fast its like a jig to slow its like a funeral march but this pace is perfect and the voice and musicians just amazing.
the newfies and cape bretoners are the most irish canadians other then the irish born living in canada, mos towns on cape breton island have irish gailic names
@@benmorris7276 you can definitely add "The Southern Shore" for sure, as these people did attain their unique Dialects for hundreds of years and also some slang saying, and words that is still used in Nfld, are not found ANYWHERE in the world ,but nfld Specific only.

@@bobnewton1064 I'm so jealous....I was much too far away to attend...I bet they put on quite the show.
@@robinaanstey3734 that they did. The drummer for masterless men gave me his drum stick as well.

Good Irish accents from Canada. Great rendition.
Not sure exactly what you mean - but I would assume these Newfoundlanders are singing with their natural accents. But I've never spoken with them!
