Immortal songs is a tv show where artists compete against each other covering a legends song by rearranging it etc. Delilah is a Tom Jones song but the 'old guy' watching them was the one who made it famous in Korea. You should really read the lyrics on the screen so you know what they are singing about lol For anyone who knows more than what I've said or got anything wrong please comment :)

The show called Immortal Songs 2 is where the younger generation of singers perform a classic song from a legend of the industry and the 500 person audience gets to vote for who they think gave the best performance. This honors the legend and allows the new generation to promote themselves. It is an honor to ever be invited onto the show. If the performer does well, the might be invited back. Very few female idol groups get to appear on this show more than 2 or 3 times and none have won the trophy awarded to the performer with the highest score that episode. That is except for Mamamoo! They have appeared on the show 14 times and have won 3 trophies!! During their first episodes, they were called the super rookies for 2015. Yes, that means that only 7 months after debuting, they were crushing it on this show. Here is a list of the appearance dates. You will want to watch these performances. As you may know by now since you said you were going to look up the lyrics, Delilah isn't quite your typical break-up song. In Tom Jones' original version he's asking his cheating girlfriend to forgive him for knifing her. The Korean version drops the knife, probably due to censorship of violent content. Old dude was slack-jawed because he couldn't wrap his head around a girl group turning the song into a lesbian crime of passion. Moonbyul wrote the new rap verses for this performance. Somehow they didn't win for Delilah, which goes to show how good the competition is on Immortal Songs 2. Mamamoo has been on Immortal Songs 14 times and won 3 times. As far as I know they remain the only kpop group with multiple victories on the show. This episode of IS2 was a tribute to the old guy (sorry, I forget his name). Some of the shots of other people were of contestants on the show. The studio audience and tv viewership for IS2 covers all age groups. One of the main reasons Mamamoo prioritized appearing on the show while they were still rookies was to gain a rep for their vocals among the general public, not just the usual sub-30 audience for kpop. As you can guess, they quickly became known as the scary rookies nobody wanted to follow in the competition. 😂
@@reneesalinas 😂 Nobody ever seems to mention the gender shift and I think it's because Mamamoo sings the passion and treats the lesbian as normal (insert footnote ref to Wheein's comments about Goodbye 🤓).
I'm going to suggest something little different but the same as it's not technically k-pop. Check out Sohyang Immortal Songs Lean on Me and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. She is Korean and competed with those songs on Immortal Songs 2 and won. She was nicknamed the Mariah Carey of Korea. Trust me, her voice is something else.
So Hyang is awesome! Lean On Me is more of a vocal show-off performance and is therefore a little bit disjointed but for emotional connection I would highly recommend Arirang Alone (which is a traditional song and an unofficial anthem for South Korea) and Everyone which is a gospel style song.
I know the song Arirang. And I already have seen the song by basically everyone who has performed it including So Hyang before I even started this channel so I probably will not make a video about it but great recomendation anyway.
