It’s pretty funny how a lot of these shows aimed as younger audiences often have concepts and elements that wouldn’t feel that out-of-place in a Stephen King or Lovecraft story. Like… public parks that open up into bleak apocalyptic wastelands filled with sentient rocks, massive worms that consume the place that is essentially the embodiment of all of humanity’s caring, and seemingly maintained by an old man with omnipotent powers. And that’s not getting into the various eldritch horrors they’ve confronted.

As a Care Bears fan, seeing two lore videos in one month is the Thanksgiving gift I didn’t know I needed. The timeline explanations at the end were honestly so cool! Rainbott is so nice. I don't know why I am so drawn into people who have encyclopedic knowledge of stuff I have never ever seen, heard of or cared about in my life, but it just works, you know?
There’s one question How do you obtain belly badges Do you get them after doing a specific thing that relates to your talent or are you just born with them
Theory for the care bears that aren’t bears. What if all of them started off as bears but over time, when they’re introduced to real animals in the human world, they decide to present themselves as their favorite animals. And that’s why horse bear is kinda fucked up, because he’s trying to transform, but can’t quite get the hooves right. Having to go from paws to hooves is a WIIIDE leap. All the other bears stayed relatively in the structural categories, and even the elephants have toes.
Hey my edible kicked in the moment you were wondering how bedtime bear represents caring but going to bed on time is self care, he represents taking care of yourself which is the most important person to care abt. i almost cried when i realized this but also theres that edible
Fun fact abt me: I have a Care Bear blanket that was my Security Blanket™ growing up and I’ve had it for roughly 20 years now. It’s still in decent condition, tho the edges are a bit fucked up bc I had a habit of chewing on the edges AND certain sections have been rubbed to almost holes. I also had a favorite side bc each side had a different texture (one was like the typical smoothness of a blanket whereas the other was more…bumpy? Idk how to describe it) Edit: every once in a while, my parents will suggest throwing it out bc I’ve obviously outgrown it and don’t use it, and I just give a blank stare and go, “Over. My. Dead. Body.” I don’t plan to pass it down to any kids bc honestly, I’d find it gross to pass down something I chewed on and then was encapsulated in a tote for so many years.
There was another cartoon by the same company called The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin (1987-89) and me and my siblings absolutely ADORED it. We only had the first season on VHS so we never got to finish it, but now in the age of the internet, last year I pirated it and holy shit? It was really good!! It's also 60 episodes and the pacing, writing, characters, plot, continuity, everything was good and had me captivated the whole show. 10/10 would recommend!
I didn't know Teddy Ruxpin had a cartoon! I'm honestly really glad I found out through this comment tho! Unrelated Side Note: I had known about the Teddy Ruxpin toy for quite a while in my life despite not being born during the time it came out. However, my love for it spiked quite a bit after a specific game decided to make a character that mixed a teddy ruxpin with a furby, and said character is an absolutely spooky menace and I love her XD
Oh wow. That show takes me back. Dating myself here, but I was lucky enough to have a Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby toy. They had a connecting cable that when connected together, they would talk to each other as you loaded the story tape. Me and my sister would also follow along with the books and fell asleep at night. I don't remember much of the stories any more, but I've always liked their voices.
Oh my god I remember that second movie. Dark heart and the girls relationship did something to me as a child. He’s evil but has a soft spot for her! Awesome video Athena, I really liked your timeline theory.
Ok so the first carebears movie is actually so insane tho like that magician kid literally sells his soul to satan lmao oh and the old man narrator is actually the magician kid and he married the little girl when they grew up and they opened an orphanage together because they were both orphans and that’s why they needed care
I find the timing for this extra good since Smiling Critters exist now and they have been confirmed to be based off of care bears (and mlp too, but mostly care bears) and they're absolutely great I know it's a random thing to menrion, but the timing just felt too good
No Heart is not the only Care Bears villain that shapeshifts. Darkheart from the second movie does this as well. he has three forms, his human form, the many animal forms he takes, and his actual form where he's a sentient cloud of red smoke.
Friend Bear has a special place in my heart because he is the ONLY one I knew of for like, the longest time because I had a book about him and he's like "I have two smiling daisies on my tummy, one for you, and one for a special friend!" or whatever and I always confused this book with one of my mom's cross stitching books because they were very similar-looking if viewed from any side but one of the covers lol. Also I keep calling him Friendship Bear. I want a plush of him simply because of that special place he holds in my heart lol.
I used to watch the show back then. I find the art style of the 80s Care Bears cuter than modern versions. I liked No Heart, Beastly, PSAs, The Star Trek episodes, and that one episode where a Care Bear lost their colors and freaking died! (Before coming back to life by a kid's tears)
@@thememeqweenThere was this one episode where a kid wanted to go swimming somewhere but is unable to because his mother’s unable to take him there. He gets caught up in a conflict between No Heart and the Cares and No Heart causes a spell that makes a Care Bear freaking die! They’re drained of their colors and is frozen in place.
I actually made comic books of my universe based on the two Care Bears movies, the reenactment of the first one I made pretty long ago, it kinda sucked, so I decided to remake it, the reenactment for the 2nd I've never bothered to remake, and it will always suck
Funshine was my favorite bear back in the day. I thought it was hilarious when he was so eager to not be sick when everyone was telling him to take the day off. Like, dude, take the day off.
So I don't have any proof of this, but I've always wondered if Hasbro got the idea for the symbols (aka cutie marks) in the MLP line from Care Bears, which I believe debuted a year earlier. The very early prototypes of the first six ponies (like in the first commercial) all have Cotton Candy's symbols, which is just white spots. Also the first six ponies are all named after their body colors, not their symbols. The pony with butterflies is called Butterscotch because she's gold, the pony with shamrocks is Minty b/c she's green, etc. The 80s MLP cartoon is very unique compared to a lot of girls cartoons in that the ponies don't have a mission to help humanity, unlike Care Bears or Rainbow Brite. No, the ponies are just trying to survive as they get constantly attacked by monsters and wizards. Also, even though all the ponies have symbols that represent an aspect of their personality (like the pony with gingerbread symbols loves to bake), the symbols are never directly mentioned in the lore and they don't "do" anything. They aren't magical and are never a plot point. The baby ponies are born with symbols, so I guess it's like if you had a society where every single person was the Chosen One and had a prophecy about them, but sometimes the prophecy was just "you're really going to like baking."
Just two days ago - I repeat, two days ago - had the thought "hm, Care Bears was like, unhinged, I wonder what's the lore" And I today this appears on my feed.
Theory: The Grandparent Bears and Children Bears are the only survivors from an alternate reality. The stories Gramma tells are stories of universes the Grandparents passed through while the babies were too young to remember before settling in the main canon universe.
The DIC series is so nostalgic to me. We had a vhs of it when my brother and I were kids, which we either sold or lost in a house fire. I kept thinking it was a special
Care Bears are a deep rooted memory for me. I used to have a care bear sleeping bag. In additition when i went to my first sleepover in PreSchool we watched the Care Bears movie, but then I was scared to sleep over so I asked to go home
We had a Care Bear VHS growing up, it must have been an episode compilation or something because I only recognize the one about the kid getting a sibling, the one about making friends with Grumpy, and MAYBE the one about the wedding
I hope your family issues are being worked on and or is being addressed and resolved. Thank you for still focusing on the channel when you don’t have to be, and still uploading. I appreciate it as I look forward to your videos each week. :)
I remember the 85’ movie and its sequel vividly from my childhood!!! The OG movies I watched later in my childhood and the OG series!! I loved it as a kid and now I’m just smiling from nostalgia
Hell yeah!! Care Bears was my jam growing up. I’m so glad you made a lore vid on this. I’m also glad I wasn’t the only one who had a massive Care Bears phase as a kid.
Love the video! I'm pretty sure the old guy narrating the first Care Bears movie is Nicholas (the villain kid of the first movie). This has a further implication that Care Bears don't age in case that's any fun. The second movie's timeline is so weird, because the kids in the 2nd movie babysit the bears as cubs, and then meet the bears again as adults, implying they just grow up in like 2 weeks. Weird.
The movies are different continuities. Part II is more or less a pilot for the Care Bears Family series that followed. The first movie is kind of its own thing.
i remember having the sunshine care bear plushie. It slept next to me in my bed aswell as my (2) horton hears a who plushies and some rainbow baby doll. I also remember watching the care bears nut cracker movie during 1st grade and hating it because i thought it was boring
i’m gonna have to watch that movie again to get a better opinion on it because i may have been a little unfair and salty considering i hated anything that looked weird to me
i never really watched the carebears but they do bring me nostalgia cuz when i used to visits my Mimi and Papa house EVERYTIME i would get there multiple coloring books of carebears and i memorized every character just off of those. this video is very intriguing and interesting!! PLS NEVER STOP THESE LORE VIDEOS ATHENA !!!
Athena, I have but two things to say: 1. This video is absolutely a work of art, I remember the freaky care bear movies and my family still quotes them at each other to this day 2. Have you ever considered Muppet Babies (1984) lore?? It’s an older one like Care Bears, full of humor and heart, annnnnd it takes the entire canon muppet timeline and sends it through a frickin cheese grater and I’d love to hear your thoughts :)
Considering it all started in "Muppets take Manhattan" as a result of Miss Piggy imagining if her and Kermit knew eachother when they were little, I'd like to imagine that this whole show was kind of her "what if" thing that she thought of from time to time It may or may not make sense, but 🤷♀️
@@pineappleprincess9704 that totally makes sense actually! I never thought of that. Still a muppet babies Athena P video would be a dream come true for me lol
Care Bears is a joy to behold. They're just so fun to watch. Though, I'm a Cousins guy, they're more distinct. But you're right about the pig. Best one. What amazes me is, they're very vintage. And yet, they're pretty well clear of Monosodium Glutamate content. It's been decades, but they didn't hit the way that other media has. That's good I suppose.
As an ‘00s kid, I had no nostalgia from the ‘80s media, but seeing the DVD cover of Oopsy Does It made me remember that not only did it exist but I had seen it as a kid. I also remember a Care Bears movie where they mistakenly thought Funshine Bear was royalty and the kingdom has a designated “rhyme time”???
I'd kill if someone even mentions Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends. That and carebears were what I'd watch while blearily eating cereal before school, hearing my dad start the pickup to warm it up and being under a scratchy green blanket my dads grandma made.
Very interesting. I really love the 80's Care Bears, especially the Nelvana series that were broadcast on Boomerang from Cartoon Network LATAM and the one that I grew up with. In fact, Grumpy Bear is my second favorite cartoon character of my entire life, behind Tom from Tom and Jerry. For me, I consider the second movie more canonical than the first one and Noble Heart Horse and True Heart Bear being the parents of all the Care Bears, and one theory I have is that Granma Bear is True Heart's mom. I really miss the classic Care Bears, including the villains like No Heart (yes, I know that he's back in Unlock the Magic but is not the same).
For the lion guard video Athena when you ever get to the lion guard for your video if you want the full context of the timeline Watch TLK then TLK 2 up until kiara meets kovu before her first hunt then pause and watch TLG seasons 1 and 2 then watch season 3 the first few episodes then finish TLK 2 then finish the rest of season 3 If u want more context for the video since it’s probably been awhile since u saw the og movies if u wanna add those to the lore explained since it’s all one interconnected timeline For context for the viewers who haven’t seen the show but if you remember all the details of the movies then you can just watch the show Hope I didn’t give anything away about the show accidentally Is this an approach u wanna take or is it too complicated
I think when the babies are singing about being Care Bears I don’t think they meant it as an occupation since they’re currently Care Cubs and maybe saying they wanna be a care bear means they want to grow up
Didn't expect CAREBEARS of all things to get political, and yet here we are! Also the No-Heartasaurus could just have been one of No-Heart's many forms, i'm pretty sure that dudes as immortal as he is immoral
My grandmother worked on the og Care bears and they had to be super secretive so they didn't spoil it and knock off food the market as soon as it airs and there only be official Care bears toys
Hello! I’ve dedicated my life to Care Bears and have been subscribed to you for a year or two now and am so happy you are covering them! If you like Beastly and No Heart now, don’t get used to it. The newest Care Bears: Unlock the Magic 2019 series ruins both of them in a singular special episode.
They were brought back? I understand Beastly, since he was in the previous series as King Beastly, but how does No Heart work? I can't imagine without his original VA, Chris Wiggins. He was half of what made that character so great. I definitely believe you in this regard, and that's such a shame. Most of 2019 seems decent, especially the villains, so how could they botch this so hard?
@@cassidyszewczyk5029 Spoilers: but they ruined the characters because by the end of the episode they have No Heart a heart, made him a good guy, and now Beatly and No Heart and partners in caring.
@@VideoPresident I get the idea, but it really does take away from the point of the characters. Plus, as I stated, I can't imagine them without the original voices.
Absolutely jazzed to be here! I had lots of fun infodumping about the cartoon bears. Thanks for having me! I hope we can collab again! :> 💕

Seeing Care Bears covered so deeply warms my heart, the 80s show was such a big part of my childhood 😭😭
Who could’ve guess the lore greeting card characters would be so deep .
RIP Uncle Skiddlibop. He was a real one 😢
Rainbott is so nice. I don't know why I am so drawn into people who have encyclopedic knowledge of stuff I have never ever seen, heard of or cared about in my life, but it just works, you know?
I love that you related Care Bears to My Little Pony. In a way, care badges are similar to the cutie marks.
There’s one question
How do you obtain belly badges
Do you get them after doing a specific thing that relates to your talent or are you just born with them

14:05 “there is only one of me so I don’t need a name” is a raw fucking line dawg that is a heartbreaking thing to be said so casually.
Idk how to describe it)
Edit: every once in a while, my parents will suggest throwing it out bc I’ve obviously outgrown it and don’t use it, and I just give a blank stare and go, “Over. My.
The makeup today is gorgeous! Plus the outfit! So whimsical! As a softcore care bears fan this is absolutely invigorating!
Rainbott mentioning Analog Horror Care Bears is something I've been trying to create. Fun video because I LOVE CARE BEARS!!! :D
The closest thing to one i could find was The Smiling Critters VHS, but I'd love to see what you can come up with!

that random storyteller wasn't a random guy. He was one of the children from the story.
Ok so the first carebears movie is actually so insane tho like that magician kid literally sells his soul to satan lmao oh and the old man narrator is actually the magician kid and he married the little girl when they grew up and they opened an orphanage together because they were both orphans and that’s why they needed care
I desperately love the idea of more expert lore consultants in the future, we love a dedicated research queen 📚 💅
Rest in peace uncle Skiddleiebop you will never be forgotten!
While I don't remember much of Care Bears from when I was a child, I do remember that I LOVED Grumpy Bear!
I find the timing for this extra good since Smiling Critters exist now and they have been confirmed to be based off of care bears (and mlp too, but mostly care bears) and they're absolutely great
I know it's a random thing to menrion, but the timing just felt too good
Same
Aren't they characters of a horror game? Lol. I'm out of date on my poppy playtime knowledge
@@SpecialInterestShow They are. A new batch of toys for Chapter 3. Both cute and creepy.

No Heart is not the only Care Bears villain that shapeshifts. Darkheart from the second movie does this as well. he has three forms, his human form, the many animal forms he takes, and his actual form where he's a sentient cloud of red smoke.
“Uh oh Joe Biden jump scare😰” killed me
Friend Bear has a special place in my heart because he is the ONLY one I knew of for like, the longest time because I had a book about him and he's like "I have two smiling daisies on my tummy, one for you, and one for a special friend!" or whatever and I always confused this book with one of my mom's cross stitching books because they were very similar-looking if viewed from any side but one of the covers lol.
(Before coming back to life by a kid's tears)
wait WHAT?!?
@@thememeqweenThere was this one episode where a kid wanted to go swimming somewhere but is unable to because his mother’s unable to take him there.
He gets caught up in a conflict between No Heart and the Cares and No Heart causes a spell that makes a Care Bear freaking die! They’re drained of their colors and is frozen in place.
This brought back memories of my childhood. Imagine my child self re-enacting the the carebears movie scenes.
I actually made comic books of my universe based on the two Care Bears movies, the reenactment of the first one I made pretty long ago, it kinda sucked, so I decided to remake it, the reenactment for the 2nd I've never bothered to remake, and it will always suck
Ah! Carebears! So happy youre reviewing the 80s/90s portions-theyre real fun and nostalgic. ^w^

THAT KNOCK REALLY GOT ME! I THOUGHT MY ROOMATE WAS TRYING TO GET MY ATTENTION 😭😭 ATHENA PLEASE
Just two days ago - I repeat, two days ago - had the thought "hm, Care Bears was like, unhinged, I wonder what's the lore"
And I today this appears on my feed.
This is a colab I didn’t know I needed, thank you dear Creators!
Theory: The Grandparent Bears and Children Bears are the only survivors from an alternate reality. The stories Gramma tells are stories of universes the Grandparents passed through while the babies were too young to remember before settling in the main canon universe.
Bedtime bear and grumpy bear were my favorite so... I guess that tracks.
Two of many of my favorite UA-camrs together is amazing I love both of them
The DIC series is so nostalgic to me.
31:10 so glad someone mentioned Good Luck and Polite's "thing" for one another
I was geeking out and squealing watching that episode
We had a Care Bear VHS growing up, it must have been an episode compilation or something because I only recognize the one about the kid getting a sibling, the one about making friends with Grumpy, and MAYBE the one about the wedding
Shreiky is like if Caillou's whining became his super power
Right next to Brightheart Raccoon, Grumpy Bear was always one of my favorites (along with Good Luck Bear)
I also remember watching the care bears nut cracker movie during 1st grade and hating it because i thought it was boring
i’m gonna have to watch that movie again to get a better opinion on it because i may have been a little unfair and salty considering i hated anything that looked weird to me
my life changed the day i found out the kid in Land Without Feelings was voiced by MY COLLEGE PROFESSOR & ADVISER
The original 2 specials are probably some of the very few Care Bears Media I’ve never seen.
Care Bears is basically Happy Tree Friends without gore and more drama
i never really watched the carebears but they do bring me nostalgia cuz when i used to visits my Mimi and Papa house EVERYTIME i would get there multiple coloring books of carebears and i memorized every character just off of those. this video is very intriguing and interesting!! PLS NEVER STOP THESE LORE VIDEOS ATHENA !!!
Athena, I have but two things to say:
1. This video is absolutely a work of art, I remember the freaky care bear movies and my family still quotes them at each other to this day
2. Have you ever considered Muppet Babies (1984) lore?? It’s an older one like Care Bears, full of humor and heart, annnnnd it takes the entire canon muppet timeline and sends it through a frickin cheese grater
and I’d love to hear your thoughts :)
Considering it all started in "Muppets take Manhattan" as a result of Miss Piggy imagining if her and Kermit knew eachother when they were little, I'd like to imagine that this whole show was kind of her "what if" thing that she thought of from time to time
It may or may not make sense, but 🤷♀️
@@pineappleprincess9704 that totally makes sense actually!
As someone who once collected the stuff toys when I was younger, then this is very personal for me.
I think you're thinking of Journey to Joke-a-Lot.
I'm so glad she made this also she looks awesome💜💚
Land without feelings...to quote Grandpa Lou, Land Without Brains is more like it. Couldn't resist lol
Glad I'm not alone in the Cousins > Bears take!
For the lion guard video
Athena when you ever get to the lion guard for your video if you want the full context of the timeline
Watch TLK then TLK 2 up until kiara meets kovu before her first hunt then pause and watch TLG seasons 1 and 2 then watch season 3 the first few episodes then finish TLK 2 then finish the rest of season 3
If u want more context for the video since it’s probably been awhile since u saw the og movies if u wanna add those to the lore explained since it’s all one interconnected timeline
For context for the viewers who haven’t seen the show but if you remember all the details of the movies then you can just watch the show
Hope I didn’t give anything away about the show accidentally
Is this an approach u wanna take or is it too complicated
I think when the babies are singing about being Care Bears I don’t think they meant it as an occupation since they’re currently Care Cubs and maybe saying they wanna be a care bear means they want to grow up
Didn't expect CAREBEARS of all things to get political, and yet here we are!
Also the No-Heartasaurus could just have been one of No-Heart's many forms, i'm pretty sure that dudes as immortal as he is immoral
Uncle Skiddidly Boo dying was the saddest thing I literally cried
14:04 “There’s only one of me so I don’t need a name” HOLY FUCK

You can care while u sleep to keep self healthy! SELF care!
I’m so excited to watch this video I grew up with the Care Bears! You should also cover the 90s and beyond lore as well!
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it, but the narrator from the 1st Care Bears movie is Nicholas, the boy who was possessed by the Evil Book
