  • Took 4 days, a few hours every night after work. I got the carpet for free off a friend, and the aluminum rail too. More will be added soon but a big improvement already.

Pressure treated plywood reacts with aluminum lol.

Big tip for anyone doing this as I have done it myself! Measure 5x cut ONCE!!! You made your boat look great It just needs to be 100% functional as well! Tight lines bud!

Others have said it....pressure treated is like acid to aluminum. Use Aztec plastic plywood

Good idea about the aluminum bars and brackets, the issues that you pointed out at the end of the video can all be fixed. Thank you for making and sharing the video.

Just a thought. If you use cardboard and make a template, you can get the plywood to fit perfectly.

Next time use cardboard boxes and make a template then lay that on the plywood

I just pulled apart a Jon boat from 86. Treated wood against inside of aluminum hull. No signs of corrosion or fatigue.

Looks good. Every year after salmon season I redo my 14' valco. Liquid nails works great for the carpet. Just spread it all over the side of the wood where the carpet will go on, Just saying. It's a pain to get that 1st piece cut right to fit into the front of a boat too.

cool man, i did something similar with my boat too. As far as your hatch I just used a couple 2x2s on the sides and it seemed to work to hold my weight. Anyways good luck out there

The door on the vatican is made of wood and it is 2,000 years old. Wood has been used since the beginning of boat building as a suitable material. When the all steel Titanic went down the lucky passengers all climbed into little wooden boats and sailed away to safety. The point is that if its done right then wood is fine....if it's done wrong it doesn't matter what material you use....you're going to sink

What's the point of this "casting deck" thing on bass boats and similar? You can't just stand on the floor of the boat to fish? You're only gaining a foot or so in height, and obviously increasing the instability of the boat. If you must do something, makes far more sense to just carpet the floor.

You get a much better view in clear water for sight casting and it's easier to cast to both sides of the boat.
