killer song and video. I am so impressed that the video is done in one take. i love how natural the performance artist is. wish we saw more of this kind of art.
Heard this song playing in the background of a pretty intense scene in the show 9-1-1. Used Shazam app to figure out who the artist is. So impressed and obsessed with this song, and Waxahatchee as a whole. Love the music. Love the voice!
Okey dokey music nerds, the verse is G, Am all the way through, & the chorus is Em, Am, C, G with a turn around Am before resolving to the verse G major. Now get those guitars out & have at it, because it's a truly beautiful thing.
I wake up feeling nothing Camouflage the wavering sky I sit at my piano, wander the wild whereby And the lilacs drank the water And the lilacs die And the lilacs drank the water Marking in the slow, slow, slow passing of time I get so angry, baby At something you might say I dream about an awful stranger Work my way through the day I run it like a silent movie I run it like a violent song I run it like a voice compelling So right it can't be wrong If I'm a broken record Write it in the dust, babe I'll fill myself back up like I used to do And if my bones are made of delicate sugar I won't end up anywhere good without you I need your love too When I live a sparse existence I'll drop down in the fold Lean in to an urgent falter Spin silence into gold I run it like the crop of kismet I run it like a dilettante I run it like I'm happy, baby Like I got everything I want If I'm a broken record Write it in the dust, babe I'll fill myself back up like I used to do And if my bones are made of delicate sugar I won't end up anywhere good without you I won't end up anywhere good without you I need your love too And the lilacs drank the water And the lilacs drank the water And the lilacs drank the water
Super unique voice. Awesome poetic lyrics.. Enjoying this musician's stuff, including the song Fire! I love the spontaneous, expressive, conversational dance/movement here with roots in modern dance. Reminds me of some of my many fun moments at ecstatic dances where the movement is really free and goes wherever the emotion and music in ya wants to go. Great compliment that someone below compared this person to Kate Bush, Bjork, etc.
Great tune! Couldn't imagine this would be Waxahatchee in 2020 when I first heard American Weekend, loved that album and also love this new sound. Great spring/summer soundtrack. Thank you Katie!
I remember listening to waxahatchee for the 1st time in 2014 when beth from twd died. And now its 2020 and katie is still making cool music. Thanks katie
this was the last song for me before the stupid pandemic. I still had hope for my life with this. Now I am destroyed but finally I can listen to it again.
I was diagnosed with losing my sight in my right eye, as the first week of it. I had a period of time to freak about both . But I couldn't take a long time wasting my time on the fact I am going blind to total darkness but I still have some vision in one eye and I will take it!! Seeing things straight as an arrow, people 😊
If this kind of music will continue, there is a possibility that we can have the 90’s music back in the industry and it will be the best event ever!!! Imagine.....the best years of the bands!! The year of the early 90’s!!!
I like that she sounds happy (for the most part). This is her domesticated basement tapes stage. Also, I always love when drummers ride the bell on the ride cymbal. So good. *thumbs up*
The attitude that comes through her voice ties the song together . 'I feel it all" . A good song by Fiest has a video that also is done with no cutaways.
I already enjoyed the song but after reading what it is about I feel an even deeper connection with it! keep making amazing, meaningful music, it is very refreshing
I run it like the crop of kismet, I run it like a dilettante I run it like I'm happy, baby, like I got everything I want how many times can i listen to this song on repeat before the person across the hall calls the landlord
[Intro] One, two, three, four [Verse 1] I wake up feeling nothing, camouflage the wavering sky I sit at my piano, wander the wild whereby And the lilacs drank the water, and the lilacs die And the lilacs drank the water, marking the slow, slow Slow passing of time [Verse 2] I get so angry, baby, at something you might say I dream about an awful stranger, work my way through the day I run it like a silent movie, I run it like a violent song Run it like a voice compelling, so right it can't be wrong [Chorus] If I'm a broken record, write it in the dust, babe I'll fill myself back up like I used to do And if my bones are made of delicate sugar I won't end up anywhere good without you, ooh I need your love too [Verse 3] When I live a sparse existence, I'll drop down in the fold Lean in to an urgent falter, spin silence into gold I run it like the crop of kismet, I run it like a dilettante I run it like I'm happy, baby, like I got everything I want [Chorus] If I'm a broken record, write it in the dust, babe I'll fill myself back up like I used to do And if my bones are made of delicate sugar I won't end up anywhere good without you I won't end up anywhere good without you, ooh I need your love too [Outro] And the lilacs drank the water And the lilacs drank the water And the lilacs drank the water
The moment her and the camera and i locked eyes @ 33 sec it was all over. But the way the camera and dancer work together throughout this while video is so natural but also amazing and honestly thrilling/
Just discovered this young woman's music. How dose one describe it? Like trying to describe the music of Kate Bush, Bjork or Imogen Heap. It is new, interesting and engaging it is Waxahatchee Music !

I think some folks are missing the point with her dancing. It's not supposed to be technically good. The point is she's a woman dancing wildly by herself
which folks are you talking about, I don't even see any comments that say anything negative about her dancing edit: nvm, found the haters - some people just suck in a very, very bad way
Exactly, and it's something almost all of us do, at least in private, if we're honest with ourselves. Just letting ourselves go and having a good time with it, or dancing as a release.
Beautiful music and melody/harmonies - but oh my god the lyrics, these f*king lyrics here (and throughout this record) - as I've commented elsewhere - her use of the language is nothing short of poetic genius.
@@Prof_B - Yes sir - and thanks for the reply - I don't know you but I like you...you know what's good - I suggest you check out her earlier records - Out In The Storm is excellent - look for American Weekend and Ivy Tripp as well. Cheers.
@@Prof_B - Great - If you like poetic lyrics - a bit more of an aquired taste is Adrianne Lenker and Big Thief - she can write a great song as well. If you don't already - try some Pheobe Bridger's - Punisher is brilliant. Have Fun.

Agreed
Maybe I'm presuming but your last line left me curios, why do you think it is that there are not more performances like this produced?
It's natural, casual, free form performance art
