Hello Kate I've been following you and Garrett on Wednesday nights. I just subscribed to your Channel. I watched your video about oramask I've tried that many times but I have had no luck but using the paint had a clear matte finish over it it works out real nice. I haven't called it with my CNC I've only had a few months still baby steps learning to use it but I use it on my lasers and it did not come loose when I just burnt a sign. My Niche now is all patriotic wood designs wood flags of different sizes and other designs. I am proof that you're never too old to learn I am 75 I work with three lasers in my small shop and the new addition CNC. I just started to work with carveco , a learning curve but doing baby steps...Lol.Thanks have a blessed night

Dave, I'm so glad that you found a technique that works for you. I'm thrilled that you have been able to catch the Lives with us on Wednesday nights. I've always been interested in working with laser's but not been able to nail them down. It's a technique just like CNC. Dave, the fact that you know your niche and the direction you want to go will help keep you on the right track. Be sure to do your Avatar work as well to really keep you dialed in and maximize your business.

Thanks for the video. What kind of bit did you use. Been having issues with the Orimask.

Hey Eric, I used a 120V bit on this! So sorry for the late reply. I was hacked and had some issues getting to my channel!!

Kate, great to see someone pushing the "pre" sealing....been using oramask since 2008...on clear wood signs that letters are painted I use shellac on the board and ALSO in the v-carve area after carving to stop any paint bleed when I paint the letters.

Richard, glad to be a part of the “pre” movement with Oramask! It’s all the little secrets we sign makers have suffered through to make it better for others!

Hello Kate I have just started to follow you along with Garrett Fromme and I am new to using my new CNC. I have made a few carved signs with raised letters instead of using a v bit and was wondering if you had any great tips on how to paint the signs with raised letters. Thank you

Randy, I'm actually working on a full series on this exact topic! It will cover, painted signs, stained signs, water based and oil and the entire process of how to with even raised and V-carved text!

Loved the video! Thanks for the inspiration...considering a CNC machine myself. I’m curious what type of paint you recommend for the lettering

I actually use a chalk paint from Two Chicks and a Toolbelt.

Rich, I believe I was using a 90v in this particular video. I’d have to go back and watch it all to confirm.
P.S. Sorry the delayed response, I was taking some time off for Family and my health. Happy CNC’ing!

Hey Kate just curious if you are supposed to peel the masking off while it's still slightly wet or just let it dry until it's completely cured?
I'm going to be doing my first carve using the masking.
    Thanks very much! 😊

Progeminidesigns, first off, congratulations on your first carve!! I hope the journey has been good to you so far! My apologies for my absence and delay. I was taking some time off for family and health.
As far as the masking, I generally do leave my masking on until the paint is dried. If you pull it off too soon you risk a ton of bleeding or the masking rubbing another area of the sign and then you have a mess on your hands. I would also suggest using Sanding Sealer on top of the masking where you will be painting. This little trick creates a thin bond between the OraMask and paint creating virtually no bleeding.
      Happy CNC’ing!
      Kate

Thank you for that recommendation. I do in my newer videos but it’s definitely worth updating the old ones.

Gustavo, Yes, I have to laugh because I'm so new to the UA-cam world, I'm trying to remember that! I appreciate the feedback though. It will stand out in my brain for next time!
