This is the bounciest, most joyfully rockin' version of the Lamb I've ever heard. And some of the cord changes in the second half give me chills. Superior!
@stevedrums This whole tour was Chester at his peak. If you listen to a recording of a concert from the 1982 tour from start to finish, his work is oustanding. There is an extra punch and lilt to almost every song. In fact I think this tour marked the peak for the entire band.
Yeaaaahhh! I was there on the football field with 30 of my closest A.Y Jackson high school friends and had my girlfriend on my shoulders for the second half of Supers Ready. Never forget it!!!! Everyone then was a Genesis fan. Wish I could go back just one more time!!
I first saw this tour at the Shepton Mallet gig on 19th Sept 82. A mate on the roadcrew said before the gig that "It's not like last time", a reference to the set opening with Dance on a Volcano, and "just wait for the encore". He wasn't wrong. Best Genesis encore ever. Best encore ever.
Superb alternate take on the Lamb Lies Down ending. Just a shame about the audio quality. Is there a good quality audio recording of this performance or version anywhere?
questo tour dei GENESIS fu STRATOSFERICO.....forse il MIGLIORE di sempre..........e sono senza STEVE e PETER.........io li vidi a ROMA al PALAEUR..............INDIMENTICABILI...............
i just dont think the magic is there at this point....the precision is lost a bit and banks sounds like hes bought a casio keyboard to play watcher...and yes i saw the tour its just a bit of a let down...
By '82(and I saw this tour as well) he had stopped using his Hammond T-102 Organ and Mellotron. After the Duke tour Genesis never sounded the same live. Always seemed like it lacked the wall of sound that it had on earlier tours.
Robert Wells I agree that the keyboards don’t have that same rich, full tone. On the other hand what they lost in terms of a little precision they more than made up with given the energy and confidence they performed with on this your. You have to have a helluva lot of confidence to alter the arrangement to the Lamb and I think they pulled it off nicely. I thought that this tour they threaded the needly perfectly between the old classics and some of their newer material.
I disagree things went to casio level sound. This was one of the fastest rigs anyone has compiled to date. The Quadra, CP, prophet was a mighty combo. The prophet organ was a little subdued, but it did the job surprisingly well.

Wow the sound is amazing! Love this!
Rutherford getting into like I have never seen.
One of the best live medley tracks ever.
It was a great show, but really cold, even on stage. We had to stay near the landing lights to stay warm!
