Most emissions testing is done via OBD port. If there is a Check Engine Light, it won't pass. Not many state inspection places use a literal insert to test gasses. So, for lots of people, going with a test pipe with anti-fouler works. Doesn't trip the Check Engine and it gets better performance.
i just poured lacquer thiner to 8 gallons in gas tank and drove it for like a week and reset the light...drove it to work for awhile and boom past today hell yea
better soc I've seen purple power work on carbon and it really works amazing I'm thinking of trying it my self on the catalytic converter. I did do a crazy experiment with my 5.9 Magnum motor I had 3 cylinders misfiring due to a lot of blow by and the plenum gasket was done, not too long ago I topped off all my cylinders with purple Power feeding it through the injector holes let it sit for well over an hour. I also shook the car numerous of times so try agitate the carbon build up. I had to make sure the intake valves wore open so I did it in stages to top off the cylinders well just cuz I didn't give a crap about it the results was now I only have one bad cylinder seems like it freed up the Rings definitely did something but remove the spark plugs before you crank recommended do it by hand to get the purple power out. If anyone does this you do it at your own risk oh yeah and not to forget which I didn't do use some kind of lubricant after flushing it out so you don't have a completely dry star. People can criticize of this but if you don't care about something and it's either this/rebuilt or junk yard you might as well blow it up experimenting on it. Great results in the combustion chamber so I just bought some time before it gets rebuilt.
But if it works it's not stupid. Drill a smaller hole and plug it with a metal screw after. It don't have to be super hot just warm to the touch at start up. Of course mechanics don't like this... they want your $$$
On occasion it's a good idea to run on take full of premium thru once a year as regular tends to make this occur. You can also use middle grade or plus on a regular basis after 100,000 miles is achieved. Had a 94 Mazda B3000 that I ran on middle grade daily after 100,000 miles and once a year ran premium 93 octane thru it, never had a catalytic converter issue in fact it was still the original cat on the truck when I sold it 23 years later.......
Cat going bad has more to do with whether the engine is burning oil or coolant from small head gasket leaks or valve seals into the combustion chambers. Your gasoline strategy was a coincidence.
excellent video bro very clever to have thought about that! don't pay any attention to the guy that said that was just a resonator, that was definitely the cat...good job! :-)
I read tje comment from down below. True they don't last forever, but cataclean does break down the carbon collection inside and blows it out. My car was going 20 mph and was on the verge of stalling daily for several weeks, prior to that it showed early signs of slowing down going up the hills. I simply used cataclean and blammo it solved the problem.
After I added cataclean my car got worse. Not sure if it was the fuel pump all along or something else. Any idea why car would get worse after adding cataclean?
If you catch it early cataclean does work. But I'm to late I think. I have and 03 ford explorer. Cataclean did turn off the check engine light but I'm still at max speed 45 and no ability to climb a hill.
He sprayed it into the hole, which was drilled into the resonator pipe- upstream from the cat. This means that, with the vehicle running, the cleaner was forced towards the rear of the vehicle, and thus, through the cat. I don't care how much of a "Nissan tech" some of these people are. He did right.
Is that the end toward the front of the car (Jeep) or rear of the car? My car was running good, no codes until I got the fuel pump, valve cover gasket, and an oil changed. Soon as the mechanic started it, P0402 code came on. I was told it’s just a coincidence.
Today-May 4th, 2018...was watching local news about catalytic converter thefts & now this, for the first time ever, shows up as recommended. Listening too much you too-b
I see so many people comment defensively or from spite of something said. Catalytic converters are only that expensive generally when they are a manifold style cat. Unless it is a mid or full pipe assembly with the cat welded in, then it wont cost over $250. You can get universal weld in cats for $100 or less online surplus. The labor to install one can get costly. However this is not the cost of the part. Dual or Quad catalytic converter setups on trucks will generally run the higher dollar amounts, and especially German cars. However ironically enough. My 2005 Toyota Avalon has 3 cats. 2 manifold style and one downstream. The downstream to me is pointless, so i had it removed and a pipe welded in. I now get better gas mileage and my car creates more power if I get heavy on the throttle. This did not and will not effect my emissions by removing this 3rd cat despite popular belief. The car is still super quiet and rides like a Cadillac haha. I am now going to sell the cat that was removed to either a scrap yard or an individual who buys them for probably $50-90. This is the average amount you can get for a cat. Selling it to someone for scrap, because they will either resell it, or gut it and get out the precious metals inside. Any questions, feel free to ask. And to clog up the hole he drilled, he could simply use high heat JB weld, or exhaust putty, or exhaust wrap tape. They all work , not to mention the hole is tiny , so it wouldn't even matter anyways. did you know that you exhaust has holes drilled from the manufacturer towards the rear of the exhaust system so excess condensation and water can drain out? P.S. if anyone decides to do this, use B12 Chemtol, ti works really well for cleaning carbon build up from engine parts, so undoubtedly I this would work better than walmart brand carb cleaner. Disclaimer,- I am not responsible for anything you do or tell someone else to do to your vehicle! God Bless

You can safely remove it and gain a little performance due to less restriction in the exhaust. I suspect they add them so the cars can be sold in California where emissions levels are very strict.
yeah, i am in agreement with you, I cut my 3rd cat out, and added a Kand N to my 05' avalon, she runs so much better. Better gas mileage on trips, and more performance when I need it.
My Vauxhall Agila A has a funky assembly where the converter (at least the stock one) is directly integrated into the exhaust ports (the whole converter has four pipes that go to the exhaust ports on the upper part, it looks like an Hydra). Undoubtly much harder to steal from the car than universal weld converters, but i wonder how much it may cost if i ever need to replace it.
Around 500€ (i'm not American BTW) and that's for non original parts. Looks hard to replace too, a lot of parts to be removed so costly install price. But that arrangement makes it highly unlikely to experience a converter theft. Forgot to say that the upper part is welded to the converter "box", unlike, say, with a Citroen Saxo in which the upper part (with an hole into which the upstream O2 sensor gets screwed) with the pipes that go to the exhaust ports is mated with four bolts to the part containing the catalyst bed.

I recommend piercing the hole into the conveter's NECK - because the converter is bad anyway, why mess-up part of the exhaust pipe? If it works, great, then you patch the converter . The bee-hive is deep inside, you won't harm it if you pierce the cat's neck part. A *GREATER* advantage of that is the NECK has much thicker metal (double metal), hence the patching screw will have more threads , i.e. a stronger grip.
That may make it too hot and it could break or degrade. They have big cans made for it that mostly only mechanics can get, but carb cleaner may not be a good idea
on day i was totally fed up with P1135 bank 1, sensor, 2 P420, P430, and what i did was actually I did not remove the C converter from my Rav 4 2002 and removed all 4 sensor, Spray regular home oven cleaner from dollar bill, then after 5 min Spray Carburetor cleaner, after 5 min dish wash water mixture slowly and after 15 minutes air blow dryer on Bank 1 and Bank 2 i used regular garden use blower. Then clean MAF sensor with same C cleaner. Codes never came back pass the test and right after pass test engine light turn ON again. Then friend told me that there is factory recall for 2000 to 2003 computer upgrade that causes Catalytic converter engine light on. So best way call dealer have computer upgrade and you are good to go free totally free. Good luck
That's actually a lot better idea than what I was gonna do and ruin both converters in the process, but I'm so tired of trying of playing 'OK what else is wrong"...if anyone has ideas (Other than telling me it's s Ford) I'd really appreciate it. Runs great when engines cold but when it's at normal running temp I have No power?!...
Not sure if you still have your Ford but for any vehicle sometimes the Mass Air flow sensor gets jammed up, they sell the spray for it at most auto places, works well for older vehicles but sometimes newer cars or "certified pre owned" vehicles could use spray in some places.
@@1Turnatatime thank you, but i ended up selling it. The problem got worse, and it was weird. Idk if it had something to do with condensation, but everytime it was raining, or even cloudy, the car wouldn't start. The starter would crank, but it never turned over. It only happened on cloudy or rainy days. I even tried using starter fluid, but nothing helped.

What about the old timers hack to intermittent spray water into the throttle body ..done it couple years ago with my silhouette and revving afterwards was insane..peppy like steppy..have to do it soon again
I tell you what this shit works. I did the same thing but i removed my 02sensor on my catalyc converter and spray this stuff on my 2013 ford econoline 250 van now running better before was so bad can't get to 60 to 70 miles after i did clean it now getting to 80+
BRENT3143945 well sometimes the cylinders expell ignition fire towards the cat so if someone does have a cat within 2 feet trust me that shit will cause a boom and maybe bow the fucker up with tiny pieces airborne. Be carefulout there and use common sense
It was burning like dragons breath if you don't start with completely cold engine. But exhaust is flowing to path of least resistance. Start soak let sit for an hour then start again will loosen more oil deposits
do you know how hot catalytic converters get especially if they're clogged? you put some chemical in there you'll be lucky if you don't catch the whole truck on fire.
Stop replacing sensors and cats without first doing a seafoam treatment. Most of the time the problem is dirty, clogged sensors and cats. Gets rid of P0420 codes every time.you can use Marvel mystery oil or seafoam, they both work. No need to drill holes and whatnot.
51MontyPython Just follow the treatment instructions, and do it slowly. Some people have fucked up their cars by guzzling the whole bottle fast. 8oz is good. Do it regularly and you should be fine.
51MontyPython Well, you can use the whole bottle but you just have to slurp it slowly, don't submerge the vacuum line in the bottle. You have to kinda atomize it. Look up "bad seafoam treatments gone wrong" and you will see. You can pull the thing off too if you're willing to waste time, but you can also kill more birds with one stone, ya know I'm saying.
Deez Nuttz Hmm, I was looking online about using seafoam treatments for cats, and I found this answer to a question about that on the official Sea Foam site: *"Sea Foam Motor Treatment can clean foul smells from your exhaust, but it will not clean a restricted catalytic converter. Actually, there is no additive sold today that can clean a bad catalytic converter."* So you disagree with this? Seems to me that if there was any truth to it being an effective cleaner you would only expect the company itself of all people to make that a selling point, right? This makes me doubtful, though I guess it wouldn't hurt to try anyway. Have you seen it actually work in your experience for this purpose, and was there a definite noticeable improvement in performance? (My car will run for about 15 minutes, then die. I _may_ be able to start it once more, but it will only run for about a minute or two more, before it won't start again and keep running, until it sits and cools for a good long while (but it's not overheating). Just changed the fuel filter, fuel pressure good even after it dies, tested ignition module -- passed, all spark plugs working,...Do you think it could be the cat causing this? Or does it sound like something else? Only code I get (OBD 1) is for "quad driver module circuit," which controls things like the fan, etc. Any input you could provide would be most appreciated. Thanks.
I took off my sensor and sprayed carb cleaner down the hole and on the sensor reved it a few times and then sprayed more bunch of smoke came out I sprayed more inside cleared the check engine light and drove it 30 minutes and no codes or engine light came on it been a week and still no check engine light
Depends on how bad it's it is. That stuff resolve grime and build up really fast but it also evaporates fast with high air flow. But be warned just a little if that can do a lot.
@@dragocane1527 😅😅 No man, the hole has been welded up forever, legend has it nobody will ever know if it worked or not, unsolved mysteries of the universe.
Does anyone know the answer to this question? CAN a fuel pump improperly installed, ie, pinched hose or wire, or any other problem, cause the P0402 code? Can NOT being careful when removing and installing a valve cover gasket cause the code? Or when changing the oil? Please serious people only.
First of all, thank you very brilliant. Secondly, stop calling it a Cadillac converter because it ruins your credibility. Thirdly try your to process in the future with the smaller hole, and see if you can get a band to cover the hole after you clean the converter. Lastly try and get a patent on the process, I think you can make a boatload of money!
I tell you what. IF I wind up actually needing to buy a new cat, I WILL try this first! I refuse to pay $2,200.00 for a cat replacement on 2007 Jeep! The light is on. Could be sensor. If not, somebody is drilling a hole and spraying!……. Now, how did this technique pan out?
heres a question no one asked did it work did your engine light come one again or did it stay of did it work if so im going to do it to mine to let me to please
Should have just took the bank 1 O2 sensor out before the cat or even the downstream sensor after the cat and sprayed it through that hole now you put a hole in your muffler and now you got to patch that or it's going to be loud as hell
Try the 1/2 gas tank and add 1 gallon of lacquer thinner (Scotty Kilmer method) But instead of just running at high speed for 1/2 hour try hitting the cat with a hammer every 5 minutes. (Don't hit too hard enough to make dents in it)
One thing I forgot to say, try to get another car and test it before and afterwards so that you can prove your results. I do think that was a very brilliant solution to the problem and a very direct solution to it
I'm not sure what you did works as wouldn't unburnt gas cause the cat to wear out faster? Putting carburetor cleaner would sort be like the same thing.
Is it necessary to drill a hole down there? Why not just shoot that whole can into a vacuum/intake hose while it idles like with sea foam / combust. chamber cleaner. ? You'll clean a lot more than just the catalytic converter
You people are wild. The gases are broken down inside the device, using catalysts. The catalysts convert the gases. The conversion takes place because of the catalysts. This happens inside of the device. The device is called a catalytic converter.
Hey guys, I just replaced two o2 sensor's for my 2011 Jeep compass and it's still shows po420 code. If I do this treatment or other similar, will it clog my new O2 sensors??
@@slowazzes1972 Yeah, I'm going to use SeaFoam one more time then if it doesn't work, I have no choice to buy a new Cat. Registration is due in April so I have some time.
But, yes it may alter the readings on your new O2 sensors. Try the method of using anti-foul spark plug spacers on your old 02 sensors if possible. If there's malfunction on your sensors after doing this treatment, they can probably be cleaned back to working order. There's two methods that I know of: One is propane torch, then water soak. Second method us gasoline soak. Google will give you step by step instructions.

03 ford explorer process. Drove perfect for about 6 months. Month number 7 a loud obnoxious rattling noise was in the exhaust system likes rocks rattling. The rattling lasted 5 days but still drove fine. The same day the rattling stopped I was unable to drive past 60 miles per hour. Over time it dropped to 55 the 50 the 40. And has been at 40 for over a year. Does anyone have a suggestion
The inside of your catalytic converter crumbled and plugged the exhaust flow. Should replace it .
Better yet
.Use a self tapping screw ...reinstall after spraying
Exactly what I just thought.
im going to try that
thanks bud 👍🏼
What about the old timers hack to intermittent spray water into the throttle body ..done it couple years ago with my silhouette and revving afterwards was insane..peppy like steppy..have to do it soon again
That was for carbon deposits on the intake manifold is a lot closer to the problem
Maybe u could make up some kind of sprayer with a small tube containing detergent and water instead of carb cleaner.
+discountbrains yes they do have a solution that flushes the catalytic converter but it has to be removed from the car.
I tell you what this shit works. I did the same thing but i removed my 02sensor on my catalyc converter and spray this stuff on my 2013 ford econoline 250 van now running better before was so bad can't get to 60 to 70 miles after i did clean it now getting to 80+
i can see what you mean, but the cc does not ignite the unburned gas that come out of it so i dont know way it would ignite the crab spray
Start soak let sit for an hour then start again will loosen more oil deposits
dont have a tap and dye set but i have a hose clamp
do you know how hot catalytic converters get especially if they're clogged? you put some chemical in there you'll be lucky if you don't catch the whole truck on fire.
In normal operation: 500 F to 1400 F, or 260 C to 760 C, for the curious. When clogged, probably 2000 F+ (1093 C)
Stop replacing sensors and cats without first doing a seafoam treatment. Most of the time the problem is dirty, clogged sensors and cats. Gets rid of P0420 codes every time.you can use Marvel mystery oil or seafoam, they both work. No need to drill holes and whatnot.
Deez Nuttz Do you just drive normally with it, or do you do you have to let it run long and hot as with the lacquer thinner treatment method?
51MontyPython Just follow the treatment instructions, and do it slowly. Some people have fucked up their cars by guzzling the whole bottle fast. 8oz is good. Do it regularly and you should be fine.
Deez Nuttz
Why is it bad to use the whole thing all at once?
Also, is it best to just pull the thing off and clean it manually?
51MontyPython Well, you can use the whole bottle but you just have to slurp it slowly, don't submerge the vacuum line in the bottle. You have to kinda atomize it. Look up "bad seafoam treatments gone wrong" and you will see. You can pull the thing off too if you're willing to waste time, but you can also kill more birds with one stone, ya know I'm saying.
Deez Nuttz
Hmm, I was looking online about using seafoam treatments for cats, and I found this answer to a question about that on the official Sea Foam site: *"Sea Foam Motor Treatment can clean foul smells from your exhaust, but it will not clean a restricted catalytic converter. Actually, there is no additive sold today that can clean a bad catalytic converter."*
So you disagree with this? Thanks.
How about spraying seafoam?
Viscious Hattermaid seafoam does not clean the catalytic converters
@@futbolero4152 there's videos that say Seafoam does work for cleaning the cats.
wow I'm gonna try this!!!! I haven't been able to drive my vehicle bcuz my Cadillac converter being clogged.
Buy cata clean
16oz that works
I took off my sensor and sprayed carb cleaner down the hole and on the sensor reved it a few times and then sprayed more bunch of smoke came out I sprayed more inside cleared the check engine light and drove it 30 minutes and no codes or engine light came on it been a week and still no check engine light
Was your car running while you sprayed it?

Works did same thing sprayed whole can in put screw in hole

a catalytic convert for 40 bucks? where?!? more like 300-1100 is what i hear quoted...
eBay bucko
yes you are correct ,you wont get much for 40 bucks ,,maybe a few beers for 40 bucks ,thats all
Did he drill that hole before or after the catalytic converter? AND, was the result positive?
Upstream of the cat and it cleaned it,black stuff even came out of the exhaust.
The code was cleaned and it never came up again.
@@Whenthehooddrops Why don't you mention this in the video or caption ?
I saw you said you made update video but i cant find it
so basically you remove the 02 downstream sensor and then sprays that inside and its good to go??
Uncle 'DeeJayy good idea, i wanted to be closer to the cat then the o2 sensor but its different on every vehicle so yours might be closer.
Uncle 'DeeJayy BHIsraelite wtf fucking idiot
Uncle 'DeeJayy BHIsraelite. lmao
Yeah deejayy. Spray towards the muffler.
how much do you spray in there all of the can or just what he did?
Depends on how bad it's it is. That stuff resolve grime and build up really fast but it also evaporates fast with high air flow. But be warned just a little if that can do a lot.
What was happening before you did the fix
This the SECOND DAMN VIDEO THAT USED A DRILLED HOLE AND IM INTERESTED IN IF IT WORKED OR NOT!!!!! DARN IT!!
I welded the hole up later no big deal.
@@Whenthehooddrops No brother IM ASKING DID IT WORK DID THE CODE GO AWAY AND DID SOME OF THE PROBLEMS GO AWAY OR GET A LITTLE BETTER?

Does anyone know the answer to this question? CAN a fuel pump improperly installed, ie, pinched hose or wire, or any other problem, cause the P0402 code? Can NOT being careful when removing and installing a valve cover gasket cause the code? Or when changing the oil? Please serious people only.
yes. a lean running condition can cause the cose...ie air intake leak
Advice me as to what I should do for my Audi A4 1.8t?
+Abu Jason Al-Blahino yup just buy new ones
First of all, thank you very brilliant.
Secondly, stop calling it a Cadillac converter because it ruins your credibility.
Thirdly try your to process in the future with the smaller hole, and see if you can get a band to cover the hole after you clean the converter.
Lastly try and get a patent on the process, I think you can make a boatload of money!
OpionatedOldMan you can make a hole then fit a screw of the same size
i guess band won't be a solution since high temperatures, but self tapping screw would do the job.
Pronounced: Cat·a·lyt·ic converter, not Cadillac as in the car. How has your truck been running since then?
Are u sure I've certain it's Cadillac I usr to have one convertible
I made a update video
@@Whenthehooddrops what is the link
What's a Cadillac converter? I don't think these closed caption videos are very good at spelling
Right
I tell you what.
Worked for me.
$2200 buys alot of gas for your car
My 2 cats are $4100 for GMC Savana . +$500 labor.
wait, is not the Air Intake cleaner inflammable? is not dangerous to spry it when the car is running ?
The unused gasoline going though your exhaust is flammable also.....
If the carb cleaner flashes, would it not cause a backfire? I like the idea, I just wonder if it is universally applicable
heres a question no one asked did it work did your engine light come one again or did it stay of did it work if so im going to do it to mine to let me to please
This question needs to be answered
Should have just took the bank 1 O2 sensor out before the cat or even the downstream sensor after the cat and sprayed it through that hole now you put a hole in your muffler and now you got to patch that or it's going to be loud as hell
I could tell a difference afterwards, and I was thinking of using a hose clamp to cover the hole.
Thanks for Watching!
BRENT3143945 that was wishful thinking
Try quick steele
Gas is a good solvent too ! LOL
I’m gona try this weekend
Try the 1/2 gas tank and add 1 gallon of lacquer thinner (Scotty Kilmer method) But instead of just running at high speed for 1/2 hour try hitting the cat with a hammer every 5 minutes. (Don't hit too hard enough to make dents in it)
Sounds interesting
How did this workout for ya bro?
BOOM!!!!!!
I have a 98 camry will I have a hole like that to spray it?
Filmaker25 i made the hole with a drill, but you could use the up stream o2 sensor hole if it's ahead of the Cadillac converter.
How do uu knw if it's bad bcuz my BMW 2000 528i wen I press on the gas peddle it's not giving power????? Could it be the cat???
aurelia jones you're a bitch arent you
Liked ur vid man
One thing I forgot to say, try to get another car and test it before and afterwards so that you can prove your results.
I do think that was a very brilliant solution to the problem and a very direct solution to it
Haha i did the same thing and it worked
What kind of car do you have?
@@beastmode5251 A Cadillac
Do you have keep the engine running when your spraying inside the catalytic converters
Did you have to close the small hole back up
Duhhhh
Sir please don’t breathe that in
You will get sick 😷
Did u pass an emissions test doing this..tanks for video
mr.debusey i live in Oklahoma we dont have that here but it turned the code off so i bet it would have.
I'm not sure what you did works as wouldn't unburnt gas cause the cat to wear out faster? Putting carburetor cleaner would sort be like the same thing.
You clearly don't understand. Carb cleaner, and gas are not the same thing.
What is a Cadillac converter?
Could you spray it in the o2 sensor bung instead of drilling a hole?
Absolutely
Is anyone else having misfires because of clogged cats?
I have last week after an engine swap
That's normal cat will cause ECU the either rich the fuel or lean the air
So my car isnt as fast as it was before could that be it?
150$ for a cat lol. Just buy one man. Getting a new cat here for my teggy, and it’s 649$ direct fit.
Hundred fifty bucks for a universal cat on your clapped-out Chevy some nicer newer Vehicles their thousand dollars or more
Def diesel exhaust fluid will that work
Not sure but this did and It doesn't cost much.

Yeah but did it damage the O2 sensor after the cat?
Nope, it cleaned it also.

Is it necessary to drill a hole down there? Why not just shoot that whole can into a vacuum/intake hose while it idles like with sea foam / combust. chamber cleaner. ? You'll clean a lot more than just the catalytic converter
cadillac??
@philsimard6382 I was 21 at the time forgive me.
Cadillac is a car, catylitic is what your supposed to say.
It is spelled catalytic!
Almost.
"Catalytic"
You people are wild. The gases are broken down inside the device, using catalysts. The catalysts convert the gases. The conversion takes place because of the catalysts. This happens inside of the device. The device is called a catalytic converter.
What u gonna do about that gas gauge
You could of also took out your o2 sensor before the cat and sprayed the carb cleaner in there instead of drilling a hole in your muffler pipe
The Upstream O2 sensor was up by the exhaust manifold in the downstream O2 sensor is past the catalytic converter
@@Whenthehooddrops got ya. I'm having the same problem as you were having. So I'm hoping this will work on my car as well

Hey guys, I just replaced two o2 sensor's for my 2011 Jeep compass and it's still shows po420 code. If I do this treatment or other similar, will it clog my new O2 sensors??
Your better off buying a new cat
@@slowazzes1972 Yeah, I'm going to use SeaFoam one more time then if it doesn't work, I have no choice to buy a new Cat. Registration is due in April so I have some time.
But, yes it may alter the readings on your new O2 sensors. Try the method of using anti-foul spark plug spacers on your old 02 sensors if possible. If there's malfunction on your sensors after doing this treatment, they can probably be cleaned back to working order. There's two methods that I know of: One is propane torch, then water soak. Second method us gasoline soak. Google will give you step by step instructions.
