a couple of guys living in the USA, debating Scottish independence..
And? One is Scottish and one is English, it doesn’t matter where they live. It’s like saying no one should have any interest in foreign wars, US presidential campaigns, foreign sports etc etc….
Irvine speaks very well. Thanks Irvine.
I wish news debates were like this now - they’re both pretty civil and curious
RIP Martin Amis❤😢
'The Scots have always been more left-wing that the Brits' commrnt says it all. Martin himself does not even think that the Scots are Brits.
Right? What a set up
He immediately corrected himself
Martin Amis: "bereft" if Scotland voted for independence. I can't remember a single line in any of his novels that shows the slightest interest even in England outside London, let alone in any of the other UK nations.
That's a wonderful comment. I read "Success", gave up with "London fields'....his 'hipness' was a Concorde flight.
Does he have to show interest? His personal opinions does not have to be in his novels, they’re fiction novels.
He appeals to loyalty.
Like a master calling his dog.

*Retches*
Was Martin high?
I´m from a very far away land (Argentina). Sorry for being direct: why exists such a huge debate outside from Scotland concerning their future ???? Why the british and international west media is so scared ???????? Why the big media presents the referendum like something so surrealist ????? Looks like we´r still living in the past where smaller territories were absorbed for stronger pirates empires without right to decide on their future. Is not big deal... it;s just a people who wants to be independent... is that so complicated to assimilate ?????
The union of 1707 was favoured by the Scots, the engineers of Empire. It got them lots,,,as doe the Barnett formula now...look that up.
Best wishes,
Gary [ who likes Argentina].
@01:56 You have "wrote" a lot about Englishness. Am I the only person who heard that glaring error ?
When I went to school "written" was the correct form of the past participle of the verb "write".
Has the language changed or is he himself simply not, as he says to Amis, "a master of words" @ 09:03 ?
SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS
NHS vs Trident. Yup.
Assaulting and attacking 181 countries is. Normal? This fellow Ignor Amos is a typical English man
rip
Two men from very different social backgrounds
Even the news reporter is bias towards Scotland hahahaha
Thanks for the oil Scotland
Basically. Now its the the renewables they are after.
And it was squandered
Here after the death of Amis. I was at my grandmother's in Scotland fearing indy would win when this was shown. "The celtic male is either a hard man or a desperate chancer, the desperate chancers are showing strong but will the hard men choose a risk averse path and vote no." A great distillation of nationalism.
Irvine needed not show up as Martin Amis single handily makes one of the best demonstrations for a need for Scottish independence you’ll ever see.
Scottish independence will come - just not yet. I think it needs to happen, as to stop a lot of anti English sentiment up in Scotland. A velvet divorce like was done in Czechoslovakia would be the best thing to do.
Anti English sentiment? Utter nonsense.
@@pauldoherty6413 not at all. Scots today are viciously anti-English. And becoming more so with each generation the SNP brainwashes with communist poison (whilst their own current leader, a brown Muslim foreigner, rages that so many Scottish government positions are filled by...Scots and wants to throw people in prison for what they say in the privacy of their own homes).
The Scottish Lords were paid in gold to join with England. SO give the English the gold BACK
Liquid gold?.
And I trillion from the North Sea to
Scotland.
ALEX SALMOND BLEW IT.
No but his girlfriend did
That Irvine Welsh is a writer, yeah? He's glancing at his notes all the time. He's a lightweight.
No. He's an excellent writer.
@@markdempsey8622 no...he is poo
It is no crime to look at your notes. I thought he argued his case well.
All three of our poor babies described Ireland as part of "Britan",
All three of our babies said this has never happened before........
All three of our babies have never read a book
Ireland is an independent Republic
Ireland has a seat in the United Nations.
Ireland ha shat in the face of Britishness and has had no consequences of substance
"All three of our babies have never read a book" - Yes, the novelists have never read a book...
