Yeah it's a bit bizarre how much they were promoting the "$2500". That's like saying I can get a great pizza for only $5 ...but ignoring that I need to get it from Naples to my home.
You probably could get one for under 15k here in Australia but having said that it wouldn’t be by much.
At the moment you can buy a crown on an auction website for around 4-5k AUD but by the time you include all the import fees, gst, registration fees, inspection fees (I’m probably missing a heap of other fees but you get the idea) I’m fairly certain it would be like 10-12k to import one.
@c4joshwa664 by the time it lands and after the BS charges they sprinkle on top it would be about 15k. A friend imported one and got it in for just under 17k.
Wish we could import them here in the United States. The 25 year old import law hardly makes sense.

When you build a Mercedes in the US and sell it there, it woud hurt the economy if you "just" import a cheaper one from another market.
But it's the same in Europe. A base Corvette C8 is about 90k to 100k in Germany while in the US it's 60k to 70k (both without dealer markups).
But at least we can get them (with import tax)...

The car market in America is crazy right now. An older Lexus LS which is like a crown is going for between 8-15 grand. 20 year old Camrys are 5-8 grand.
Considering you definitely can't get these for under 15k, the best value JDM car you can get in Australia is a V36 Skyline 350GT. 315hp, n/a V6, 5.5 second 0-100, plenty of aftermarket support, reliable, lots of luxurious features, handles very well with aftermarket suspension (also has a HICAS 4 wheel steering option), and you can get them for under 10k.
I love how slept on they are because "iTs nOt a ReAl sKyLiNe!", keeps prices super low for those who know how good they really are.
I'm assuming the 3.7k they quoted was the price they bought it for in Japan, before the additional fees + shipping which would be almost an extra 10k.

$2500 in Japan + at least $10k to import. I don't think it can be imported to the US until 25 years old. Once driven on US roads it will have blind spots like an old mail truck.

importing into the states is between $2500-3500 USD to the east coast. pricing varies depending on how much service/ self service you need for importation. once in the states, RHD isn't that bad, takes about a half hour to get use to tops.
Gonna guess Lexus sc400,LS400, or Infiniti Q45. 1UZ or VH power ftw! Can probably find these in the US for a similar price if you shop well.
