This small amps have such a HUGE SOUND!!!!! It's too bad that they are out of my affordability range! That G&L sounds incredible with a serious growl, bottom, and punch!
Two mics? You are insane! Generaly thats the best video review I ever watched on the net! From 07.41... groove change caused not by drummer but Bass boost... ha ha, thanks!
There comes a lot into it, one factor to tube amps sounding louder has something to do with impedance matching and tube compression, along with the much higher distortion levels (even a clean tube tone is much more distorted than youd allow a solid state rig to be), and ofc as mentioned before cabinet efficiency. As I remember it AER hit quite high in the SPL/1w battle (98-100dbSPL/1w) which is quite good for small cabs (4x10s normally have an SPL similar to this), also the high quality speakers allow for higher maximum excursion which is ofc what you really hear at max volume: the maximum excursion of the speaker (if the cab/amp is matced ofc). Some low quality speakers dont build much in volume when adding extra power, but just... well waste it. Also remember that 2000 watts only equates to twice as loud as 200 watts if the speakers take full advantage of the power (which they dont), which means that 200 watts into a Phil Jones horn cabinet (106dbSPL/1w) will be louder than 2000 watt into a normal 4x10. In fact youd only need 20 watts to be as loud with the effecient cabinet. Go gigging with dat b-15 now xD
It's logistically difficult to switch the eq while taping myself playing upright... but I figure the amp sounds so good flat... I don't need to tweak it.
Bass Whisperer TV As an amateur maker of bass guitar videos, I appreciate how much time and effort goes into these. Keep up the phenomenal work, friend.
Can anyone tell me an appropriate powered extension cabinet I could use with the Sub Out on the AER Amp One? AER has nothing on their website or Amp One manual and no one is answering emails over there.
Thank you for very good demo ! hard to find good demo/reviews on the good stuff out there.. How would you compare it against Acoustic Image amps ?, They are in the same price range, and I see that people/electric bass players out there on the web forums in cases chooses Acoustic Image over the AER amp systems. But then again, you mentioned something about that "nothing" out there can compare to AER when it comes to size/sound quality/power. I play mostly funk/fusion/rock/pop I know I should test them out for myself before purchase, and I will.. If somebody wants to share information that is useful for me, please share !
Very different animal. The AI is about presenting as uncolored and natural a sound as you can get from a piezo equipped instrument. The AER is deliberately designed to provide more low end than you would think possible from a small box. T
I think the key phrase is, "there are those who would argue that digital watts aren't as loud as analog watts" and not I, Ed Friedland, would argue that. It's a well produced and comprehensive review. Better than what I typically see on the internet. Keep it up. btw, I just picked up a very nice L-2500 at a very good price. Love it.
Great! The L-2.5 is a killer bass... but this new M2500 is also pretty dang nice! I'll be doing a full demo on that one next, but it sounded so good through these amps, I had to use it. Amp Two and Three are equally spectacular, maybe even MORE so.
How do these AER Bass Amps One, Two & Three compare to say the AER Cube Two & the AER Bass Performer Two models? I'm thinking more for Electro Acoustic Bass Guitars (Godin & Taylor AB1) than for solid electric bass as already have Markbass & Ashdown setups for them
Hi Ed. Thank you for the great review. The bass tone in this video is fantastic. To me it sounds like a Jazz bass with a nice mide range growl. Sort of like a mix between a J bass and a Warwick. Would you attribute it more to the G&L M2500 or the AER amp?
Well... hard to say which is more prominent... you're hearing both. I'll be demoing the M2500 next, probably through my regular demo rig, the Genz Streamliner/Uber setup. Then, you'll hear more of the bass. This particular demo was about making the amp sound come through, so check back to hear the focus change to the bass.
Bass Whisperer TV Hi. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it and I really look forward to your review. I am heading to a local G&L dealer soon, but they don't have the M2500 in stock. But just to get more familiar with G&L. Somehow I've never considered them when bass shopping. Thank you and thank you for your great reviews!
It just came out, I never know what to play by myself sitting in a room. I'm a BASS PLAYER, I play with people.... But I can always remember the Chicken! (It was in C by the way).
+Bass Whisperer TV pleased to know I'm not the only bass player who feels like that which is why I am now learning to play the piano as it is nice to play by one's self now & then
There's no such thing as "digital" watts. Watts are watts. Class D is not digital. It's a misnomer that even a few amp companies mistakenly use. "D" doesn't mean digital, it's simply the next class after Class C.
On a side note, "standard" bass amps may appear louder because amp companies tend to be more conservative with their watt ratings compared to Class D amps. For example, Class D amps rated at 500 watts are typically a little less than 500 is the real world. This is just marketing, not the fault of Class D.
I tried the Amp One a while ago, I tested it with an ATK 800 premium bass. And it was lovely great, so I bought it. At home, still great, but once I started trying other basses ( mostly passive fenders ) it lost all clarity, vibe and gut that the ATK gave. Anyway, I returned it. Still looking for a nice amp.
That is an Auralex GRAMMA. I NEVER play without it. I've had that under my amp on every single gig I've played (with my own gear) for the last 10 years. GET ONE!
OMG thats one of the best sounding combo bass amps i ever heard! thanx Ed!
This small amps have such a HUGE SOUND!!!!! It's too bad that they are out of my affordability range! That G&L sounds incredible with a serious growl, bottom, and punch!
fantastic editing on this vid Ed,
amps sound great

I have amp one and it is very loud for it's size ,and very usable sound for live situation,it can cover a lot of small to medium sized gigs for me.
Very good reviews ,,,,,more amp reviews please
Great review, great sound. I watched it on my 55" good high def.
Yes, that is GOOD!
Great review Ed. I would have liked to hear the acoustic bass with various EQ settings. Since I play both, both are important to me.
Thanks!
It's logistically difficult to switch the eq while taping myself playing upright... but I figure the amp sounds so good flat... I don't need to tweak it.
Bass Whisperer TV You do these videos all by yourself?
Andrew Pincock Yes, I'm a one man operation. I do what I can, but ultimately some things are too much hassle.
Bass Whisperer TV As an amateur maker of bass guitar videos, I appreciate how much time and effort goes into these. Keep up the phenomenal work, friend.
Andrew Pincock Thanks!
What an awesome sound out of such a tiny amp.
Can anyone tell me an appropriate powered extension cabinet I could use with the Sub Out on the AER Amp One? AER has nothing on their website or Amp One manual and no one is answering emails over there.
I think we have the case of the mysterious disappearing/reappearing Ripper bass!!!
+Tobias Hawthorne I thought I noticed that the sunburst one right or was it a sunburst Stingray all along lol
Thank you for very good demo ! hard to find good demo/reviews on the good stuff out there..

Bass Whisperer TV Can't wait, I wanna know the details! Seems like a cool bass, I tried my first G&L today and I'm in love with the brand!
How about comparing this o the Shertler bass fidelity b10? I have that, and the clarity and lows are insane, cuts through everything!

Hey Ed, ever try out an N/S Stick bass from Stick Enterprises? Definitely cool stuff. But I am a little biased.
I've played the NS EUB before... nice. Not something I personally need, but cool.
Nice version of the chicken, in F. Or did you not notice you kinda played that

Which is why I didn't get into it.

Dude, give me a break with the trolling. Not true at all. I play P Basses through this thing and the sound is clear and massive. Go away.
Ed what's the stuff you use under the amps to decouple them from the floor?
That is an Auralex GRAMMA. I NEVER play without it. I've had that under my amp on every single gig I've played (with my own gear) for the last 10 years. GET ONE!
will do - thanks!
These cabs and amps are starting to become like cell phones or computers .As soon as you buy one ,a new ,louder ,smaller one pops up .
Whats your opinion of MAX bass amps?
Never tried them, haven't seen them.
Has anyone tried this amp with an upright bass? Thanks!
It's fantastic on my double bass, I would recommend the one amp.
These amps are freaking expensive
Yes, but if you play through one, you'll understand why.
Definitely has some bottom in there...
As much as I love low end this is too much, I don't hear punch, attack or a sonic personality here.
Class D amps are not digital.
