Kept it on the road all this time myself. Whenever it’s down, and waiting on me; time, money, part wise. Day, week, month, however long. The first drive back on the road is goosebump inducing. Can’t imagine what that first drive felt like for you... Seeing MkI’s I like, also brings back this reoccurring, extremely agitating memory. Old buddy of mines father, owned a fab/collision shop. Run of the mill fixes, top notch award winners. Says, “You’re big into water cooled VW’s. Come check this out. You’ll appreciate this.” Walk behind his shop, and there’s a couple of car silhouettes peeking through grass grown past the roofs. Get closer. 2 MkI Rabbit GTI’s, all original, original paint, complete. Talking trims, badges, interior bits, original wheels, original black vinyl still surrounding the hatch glass. Like heart pounding, panic inducing, can’t believe what I’m seeing type stuff. Scanning them, “What do I have to do to get them? How much? What do you need?” I’m talking it kept me up at night for a long time. Guy won’t let them go. “Call me immediately if they ever need a new home.” Ask him periodically to the point where he’d get pissed. Years go by, things change. I run into him. “Whatever happened with those GTI’s? He replies, “We cleaned up the lot and we junked them.” It still keeps me up at night from time to time. Apologize on the book. Always seem to tell that story every time I see a nasty MkI. Suppose it’s a, what could’ve been type thing... Good luck with yours. Going to be fun tightening that thing up from here on out. It’s a runner now, and the body looks stupid clean. Bravo...

Does he have a diverter valve in or does he have a stock one or an aftermarket one? if so might have the wrong compression spring in!! And if he is running the stock one he needs to upgrade to like a forge diverter valve. Check the N70 valve too always problems with them and they never last, if it's none of them check for boost leaks with a smoker through the intake you don't have a smoker you can use a vape... Chris Notap channel on UA-cam has a good DIY on how to make your own out of a pickle jar... Anyways good luck sounds awesome.. I'm loving that.... I'm 41 brings back memories from when I was a kid!! 😉👍😉
That's the first thing I checked when we got back. I got the old diverter valve out and checked to see if the spring rate was the same. Nope. The new one that was on the car was way harder. So I dont think it was opening. We changed it out so we will see next drive out if it changes anything. Thanks for the good info

Alright so ima throw my 2 cents in. Ive built 5 1.8ts. From mild to max. And just looking at the bay I really don't think the ecu is going to like that maf setup. Since the AEB doesn't have a map sensor the maf is a pretty critical read for the ecu. Your probably going to have to modify that housing to get the sensor down into a clean portion of the intake stream. Is it currently centered in that section of pipe? Id be wary of it being so close to the bov dump pipe as well. As im sure your aware the metal portion is just a heated bit. The ecu reads the temperature to determine how much air is flowing in. Since its in a recessed position there's going to be all sorts of turbulant air going in that portion of the intake. Creating all sorts of temperature differences. Throwing off the fuel trims. The simple fact that it idles okay when airflow is low should be a big clue. Once it gets onto boost because that read is wrong the computer doesn't know how to correct. Because the temperature is changing at drastic rates.Thats why it sounds like its having fueling issues and why your air fuel reads are all over the place.
THEWIDOWSON your fine everyone is entitled to their option it’s normal. The recirculation valve is past the maf down stream from it and as far away as I could get it from the maf. With the maf sensor being centered in the in the turbo intake pipe. Granted all the readings that you are seeing and the way the car is running is with gas that was 7 years old. On top of the fact I didn’t “build” this setup Ecu/turbo/tune is came out of a car that was built probably 18 years ago. So I have no idea what is going on with the tune and or timing that was on it. Especially from a passat that weight 3200lbs vrs my rabbit that weighs 1000lbs less. So I can’t speculate on any of the things I have done to it until it’s tuned for this car and the porting and all the other extra stuff I have done to it. So and if your cars that you’ve built I’m sure where all new and up to date with the work being performed. And like I said it had gas that was 7 years old
I noticed you were having issues finding your Tuner. You should check out Motoza in Colorado Springs. They have some E85 tunes that might interest you!

It took 7 years moving around a few times and it was kinda a back burner project with a decent amount of custom work needed to get everything the way I wanted it.
i say it had junk in the tank injectors are probably dirty now, fuel filter only does so much. looks like its running lean coming into boost and rich under full boost. Its easy enough to remap those ME7.5 computers yourself if that's all the turbo your going to run.

Yep we saw that to before we went out to drive. Looked all over for awhile. Jeremy replaced a couple hoses and before that it was down at 20psi idle. So just one of the issues to look into

terry marinopoulos yeah the oxy is new. I’m running those plugs gapped 28. I have the upgraded awp coilpacks. The only code I have is for the speed sensor. I’ve never aligned the throttle body. I didn’t even think you could with drive by cable

Jeff Diaz the tune is about 14 years old the whole setup came out of a 98 passat built years ago and the gas was about 7 years old. The system originally had a narrow band but I ungraded you a wide. But I agree with you there is a fueling issue and I might need to get a new tune so I can dyno time it all.
Jeff Diaz Lol I know I had added some when I first got it going but it was only 3 or 4 gallons. For some reasons after I finished the swap and got it running again the fuel gauge on the cluster stopped working so I had no idea how much I had total.

It’s Air to Fuel. Low number means less air, so more fuel. She’s running fat, so it’s not dangerous, just going to foul plugs and made less power

Sounds like fuel air fuel looks like ass!!! Fire your tuner ASAP to much fuel 10.00 Afr at wot I would run it at 12.1 to 12.5
Jeff Diaz the tune is about 14 years old the whole setup came out of a 98 passat built years ago and the gas was about 7 years old. The system originally had a narrow band but I ungraded you a wide. But I agree with you there is a fueling issue and I might need to get a new tune so I can dyno time it all.

Jeff Diaz Lol I know I had added some when I first got it going but it was only 3 or 4 gallons. For some reasons after I finished the swap and got it running again the fuel gauge on the cluster stopped working so I had no idea how much I had total.
