I dont hunt and I dont enjoy watching animals like this being shot but I respect the guys that do hunt , they are usually the people who know the wild and genuinely care about it, even if that care can seem abstract to the lamen.

Anyone else think this was going to be about a photographer at first, trying to get really good headshots ( photos ) of giraffes, then get confused when you see the rifle, watch it again thinking maybe it was a tranquilizer gun, shocked and kind of sad when you realize he actually killed it…….Then start wondering what giraffe tastes like?

doing this is actually beneficial to the giraffe population, like most large pack animals theres a head male who has a monopoly on all the females of the pack. They get to a certain age where they no longer can breed, yet still have the testosterone and are still very territorial over the females. They prevent the younger healthy males from breeding, and keep the population at a standstill till they are removed from the herd or die. Now, if you were a game warden and you see this going on, Taking the giraffe out allows the young males to breed, as well as keeps the older one from killing any more giraffes. Why stop there? sell the giraffes tag to some rich american or european, and now the giraffe is no longer a problem and you got 8000 dollars in your pocket to go towards preservation. Its a very good system, and the dumbasses who are against it are hurting the species more than they're helping.

Plus the cost of transporting an 16000 pound aggressive animal the size of a sprinter van, just to put him in a spot where he can kill other things is counter-intuitive. Even if no one buys the tag, the game warden would have to just shoot him himself.

The word "humane" means nothing if not for humans. The WORST death any animal dies at the hands of a hunter is easier and less painful than most deaths the same animal would have died naturally.
If this giraffe was killed by lions it would have been a brutal and agonizing death... But at least no one's feelings would be getting hurt.

Many years ago a mountain lion hold up in a tree outside of an elementary school in Palo Alto California (home of Stanford University). The police knew what had to be done and right before school was let out flooding the street with 100's of slow moving mountain lion snacks the police made the decision to kill the mountain lion. This infuriated the University. Suddenly professors of ancient Mayan horticulture were experts in California wildlife management. They questioned why the police had to kill the mountain lion.

@@neilnewton4427 the hunting here is very regulated, and they only kill old bulls who don’t have a herd, which often kill other juvenile breeding males and damage giraffe populations. So hunting these lone, elderly bulls tends to help giraffe populations actually. Usually a hunter will have to wait a long time for the opportunity to hunt one because the males are usually too young on the reserve

As weird as it may sound to some, animals that have value to hunters, are the ones who are the most taken care of. The money spent by hunters (which for trophy hunting in Africa is a lot!) goes to protecting the animals and their habitat so that the hunters will keep paying. Great shot btw!

It's not that it sounds weird, it's just completely counter intuitive...these animals wouldn't need preservation if big game hunting didn't occur. Hunting in the BC ages made sense to me. Hunting in the 19th century I could understand...modern day though, there's just no valid reason for it. And before you say " that Giraffe fed many families" I'd ask you this: Are you saying these people are incapable of Hunting for themselves? I'd rather show them advances in farm technology so they wouldn't be so dependent on something like this. Is it not enough to eat goat, cows, chicken and fish? Just an opinion.

Giraffes are endangered species, but that was an alpha male who is old and wouldn't let the young males breed. He's hoarding females which will reduce the giraffe numbers even more, solution? Take out the greedy angry giraffe to balance out the odds. Exotic animal hunting, people donate UpTo 100-500k to the refuge they're hunting in. Poachers are who you should worry about not these rich donors who maintain the wildlife refuges through culling an donations.

I read in one comment section in a video where a guy was just shooting coyotes, that a commenter said wait a minute next UA-cam is going to give me a short about a giraffe getting shot in the head. Are you serious. I just said don't recommend the channel UA-cam and the next thing UA-cam does is actually send me a short about a giraffe getting shot in the head? That's insane
He was an old animal and had become extremely aggressive towards the younger jiraffes and females so had to be shot all the meat goes to the local people
Yep animal like that needs to be dispatched because it can affect their species tons of ways so putting that giraffe down in the head is a good way to do it

Before I read the comments I knew the haters would have all kinds of nasty things to say. The giraffe was shot for a reason. It had to be shot, it was going to be shot and it needed to be shot. Better to have someone pay good money to do it so that the money could be used to help the rest of the giraffes than wasting the opportunity by just shooting it. The meat was given to the local tribes,as it always is and everyone benefited.
Added Note: Notice, he did not choose which animal to shoot, the exact animal to be CULLED was pointed out to him, “…the one in the middle.”

@@tenzingobom4748 there can be any number of animal husbandry issues, the most likely and common reason is because a dominant male is or is ready to breed with his daughters due to a small group size. This will cause inbreeding. Removing that male allows a younger male with a different gene pool to diversify the gene pool of the herd. Money paid by Hunters contributes more money to improve animal husbandry than any government program anywhere. Duck hunting in the US is a prime example. Do the research with an open mind and learn. Poachers steal, hunters support

@@tenzingobom4748 Keith Warren has the full video on his channel but this giraffe was old and not able to reproduce anymore if i remember correctly and had started killing all of the younger males in his herd. If they allowed this male to live, his herd would never bring anymore giraffes into the world and die very quickly as they were already a pretty small herd at that time i think. This herd will flourish without that giraffe now
@@chasej556 I didn’t have to know the exact reason, but I knew there was a good reason. Farmers and game keepers have been practicing animal husbandry for centuries. People get upset when the animal is good looking and the don’t have any idea how the world works. Parallel example is the western US burning because people didn’t like controlled fires because it made areas look bad for one season.
