I worked as a painter for years, and learned the hard way what to do and what not do with popcorn ceilings. It helps to keep an old dry paint brush handy. Once you've sprayed, brushing lightly with dry brush will help to thin out over spray spots, etc...and to feather in newly sprayed area so it blends in.
If I went to all the trouble of removing furniture and covering walls and floors, I think I would scrape the whole ceiling and do a stomp brush texture after doing any needed repairs.
why the hell does anyone texture things? i swear to god i do not understand this. your refrigerators come textured, the handles on stoves come textured, the plastic walls in bathrooms come textured, people texture walls and ceilings. all it fucking does it make it impossible to clean properly and impossible to patch when holes are created. i fucking loath texturing on all things.
I usually do. Some guys put paint or primer in they're mix but it makes a mess if your not careful. If I have time I usually mud and clean and then prime and then texture but I'm a picky dude so that's just me. Although I have done it with the paint mixed In it. Guess it depends on how your putting the texture on eithet rolling or shooting
My husband tried the Homax ceiling texture and it just came out in big clumps. Is the something that he did wrong. He said that he shook the can for about 30 min but he never heard the balls but, he proceeded any way. Any suggestions?
When I was 14 (1994) this guy a I know who did handyman/contracting work did the popcorn thing on his walls/ceilings, but didn't use that canned stuff.. Got joint compound and put a layer of it on the walls, went over the one room's layers with a paint roller, and the other room went over it with plastic shopping bags..was different.. And yes..he painted them..think they glittered the one wall... Wonder how much that 5 second spray can costs to do a wall/ceiling vs. drywall joint compound?
Haha yeah. "At first...this job doesn't look sufficient..but after a few hours it dries and looks better..... .. Doesnt show a before and after hahaha 😂😂😂
I tried using a popcorn spray one time. Even after shaking well,it came out of the can like water and did not stick to ceiling. It was a waste of money. I do not know who made the product
Can stuff is a pain, costs 20$ a can and lasts like 10 seconds, hard to use and you can get the same results with white paint mixed with fine sawdust, cheap, easy to use, you already have leftover paint, the materials are at home, no running to the store for another 20$ a can
It is impossible to match your color and texture using this method. Also, 2/3 of the spray cans are flat or no good from the store, and given the high price of each can, its just not worth it to try it yourself. This is one of those things that looks so easy on the video, but does not work out in real life.
@alpurl you'll end up paying about 200 for supplies....then screw it up....then have mess everywhere....then you'll try it again cause you'll be in disbelief that you messed it up so badly the first time, then you'll spend another 200 and then start crying cause you should've just called a professional out and paid the 500 bucks so you'd have it done in a day. It's way cheaper and easier just to pay a little extra to have someone do it for you.
This pop is easy to remove...I got that stupid pop with heating wires...now that's is a bi*ch to remove...I did only kitchen took me 3 hrs ..I even got a garden hose and soaked The hell out of it and nothing.
LOL nothing good is coming from a can unless you are priming the lip of a fender on your 50's car.. sorry but that can text is a load/crock of shit. This is homeowner series? Better advise to go rent a PRO machine then.. a "can" will NOT do what you are looking for.. you have to know the substance before you will understand why a can will not work.
+Nathan Deneault cans are great....lets see if you will do all that taxing legwork when your 60, kid!!!!! Or on a fixed income and can't afford you young whippersnappers $1000 pricetag on the fix......'50's cars sucked , I had alot of 'em
I understand but they are still crap. You can mix some tex and shoot it for far less than a can, and it is the actual product that was originally used. Sorry not subbing cow burgers for cat burgers.

3:46 I can't stop laughing at that face!
got some on his forehead lol
popcorn ceiling should be illegal
How bout shut the F^UCK UP
That escalated quickly.
@@OMGMANBOOBS Alert!
I bought a house 23 years ago with popcorn ceiling and hate it.
I got it off my kitchen, entry way, living room. It's still in the bedrooms and bath.
Hahaha totally 😂
3:51 It was at this moment when I realized home ownership is COMPLETELY over rated.
"That changed after waiting only a few hours."
I'd show that to you, but I think I hear my mom calling me.
😂🤣
What a hack. Thanks for the chuckle.
Loved the crap blasting all over his face hahahaha

Wasnt aware that gaslighting part of ceiling repair, peter north could have done a more even spread.
It's 1 AM. I'm supposed to be writing. What am I doing here?
just waiting 2 years for a reply, it seems.
@ANDREW RUDICH maybe 1 month
So much for holding the bucket under as you’re scraping through the entire process....Ned got sick of that real fast 😂
And yeh...I'm gonna say it..that ceiling looks like it could use some butter and salt :/
Love the effort, that was a brutal patch. Never pass with all ridges ?? Agree ?
Don't you have to put a primer like kilz or guard down on the ceiling before you put mud or popcorn texture on it?
I usually do. Some guys put paint or primer in they're mix but it makes a mess if your not careful. Nice job but the finale was a little rough. Try a more even spread next time.
In lieu of making huge mess, spray it into a pan and dab it on with brush. No mess. No cleanup. No unnecessary taping or cloaking whole room
Is the dry wall supposed to be mudded before spraying the popcorn?
My husband tried the Homax ceiling texture and it just came out in big clumps. Is the something that he did wrong. He said that he shook the can for about 30 min but he never heard the balls but, he proceeded any way. Any suggestions?
that's a bad job right there
he started in the middle and went all crazy!
yotchsy hahahhaa. I agree. And I like how she said it looked better hours later but didn't show the finished product
It looked like he was shaking a bottle of champagne. Lol that went all over the place..

cant wait to get my popcorn ceiling I really wanted a wood ceiling but 2 expensive
Major Disdain i like how you replied to a 3 year old comment cuz you just couldn't get over the fact that people type differently than you do lol
The best way to repair a popcorn ceiling is to remove it entirely.
I don’t like mine but without it you’ll get bad echoes especially if you play music or something.
Great video! This video gives a through explanation of the is process.
Talube101 yes, but when you doing start evenly for one area like if you were spraying paint
@Toxiclevideos yes - search for this video
How to Fix Drywall - Removing Popcorn Texture - Drywall Repair
That's about the worst repair I've ever seen
Agreed
definitely needs another can yeah
...well, it certainly wasn't applied very evenly.
Haha yeah. "At first...this job doesn't look sufficient..but after a few hours it dries and looks better.....
..
Doesnt show a before and after hahaha 😂😂😂
Came to the comments to make sure this was posted. Well done
Guy realized he wasn't catching anything so he slowly stopped using the tray lmao
Can you take off popcorn ceilings? I really hate it in my room.
Yes
3:37 look at this guy with no mask on!!!! hahahahha
3:37
@Aesthetic Ruriko no it's 3:37

Thanks for the tip, I am doing a repair for a friend and I will try your way first.
I’ve used those popcorn spray cans and half of it falls everywhere but the ceiling and it never looks right.
I’ve used it twice and it turned out pretty good. You don’t get much in those cans though.
Seems to be much simpler than I originally thought. This is going to save about $900.00 to have a professional do out.

You won the prize!
For the shittiest ceiling repair job ever!
wow great how to video.
That's really cool thanks
That was the worst patch job I have ever seen in my entire 34 yrs. of drywall finishing ;/ wth
Where can I buy the acustic spray texture? Home Depot? Im from México
Try the Home Depot you sit in front of every morning.
Maybe you guys have a casa depot?
I'd be embarrassed to put this quality of work on youtube......
Say no to popcorn ceiling!!
That's cool
I'm assuming none of you have heard of asbestos before
Any home build after 1978, asbestos is not an issue as it was ban after 1978. Anything build before 1978 needs to be tested.
Dondi31 buildings that are built after 1999 are the only buildings that you can assure have no asbestos
Why wouldn't you show what it's like after it dries?
3:21 funny
4 seconds? Lmaoo throw the whole ceiling in the garbage and start from scratch
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU PUT THAT SHIT ON YOUR WALL????????
I know! Put carpet on the walls instead.
What a mess
When all hair becomes grey you become shit at driving whether it’s a car or a can
Is it just me or does the ceiling look worse after the repair than before it?
they tried to make it sound so smart.... wet it scrape it off and spray a do it yourself can on the roof... woow
HIS FACE!!!!!!!!! HOW DID I GET HERE?????
@alpurl you'll end up paying about 200 for supplies....then screw it up....then have mess everywhere....then you'll try it again cause you'll be in disbelief that you messed it up so badly the first time, then you'll spend another 200 and then start crying cause you should've just called a professional out and paid the 500 bucks so you'd have it done in a day. I dunno...but i have to say it looked better b4 it was monkey with...lol why'd u go insane with the can ?
wow so thats what that acoustic spray is for im going to attempt to repair the hole in my ceiling lol
what am I doing here at 3am I don't even have popcorn ceiling
3:50 it got all over his face
I am sure you can still buy handbook with all info you need on woodprix. Just google it.
Anything using a can of texture is going to be amusing
My ladder is only 5.5 feet y’all. Does this work?
😂😂😂😂 put your short ladder on a pallet or something lol
He got more of the on his face than on the ceiling.
I knew a guy who removed popcorn ceiling and he died horribly.
Tera Pan how?
@@nessaalixanderia No one knows but the doctor said it might've been from his popcorn cieling
I like flat better our popcorn is old and yellow and dusty and its just not good looking at all so I'm taking it off
It's real easy to fix popcorn ceilings....just call a professional they're dying for the work! ha ha ha
*gets asbestosis*
*COUGH COUGH*
Disfigured popcorn? That whole ceiling is disfigured. Skim it..
What if its been painted over 30 times
Paint it 31 times lol
When he started spraying i thought he was going to start sucking it
😅😂👌
Worst looking patchjob dude- stay home and watch tv.
With that face, I should be saying “say hi to Ron Jeremy at the adult store for me”.

La textura se mira muy pobre ese espray no espraya bien tira 2 chorros no espraya parejo
haha he tried to scrap it into the pan but later he just scraps and screw the pan.
This pop is easy to remove...I got that stupid pop with heating wires...now that's is a bi*ch to remove...I did only kitchen took me 3 hrs ..I even got a garden hose and soaked The hell out of it and nothing.

😂😂😂 that’s horrifying
Ugly repair - but maybe it looked better after "only 2 hours"?
Can i eat that ?
4 to 6 secs lol
sorry not impressive
I laugh everytime I see someone using homax products. Canned texture is such garbage.
Popcorn ceilings needs to go! Creates to much dust
just scrape the the fkin thing and do it right
Damn trypophobia!
That looks like crap!
What the $$$
A lot of bad review about this product...
amateur
Even I last longer then 4 seconds
Utterly dreadful. Descend the ladder and call a professional drywall repairman. You will be glad you did.
